    Original Van Ness Boy, which turf would become Van Ness Gangsta Brims in coming years, sits down with Kev Mac Videos. S Mac and Kev Mac hits him with history questions and lessons for our regular viewers and people searching for a good hood book with legendary street names.
    At seventeen, Michael would meet Thomas "Tootie" Reese, the Godfather of black drug kingpins, and was impressed with his tremendous wealth. After he became a member of Tootie's organization, Michael would have all the money that he had ever dreamed of. But the death of his best friend, Raul, to gang violence, changed the course of his life. He was plotting the murder of Raul's killer when the government took his freedom.
    In prison, education changed Michael's life. He began to understand how his actions and the actions of those he knew and associated with were destroying black neighborhoods, and he became a social activist. His desires changed from wanting to be wealthy by any means necessary to wanting to save underserved neighborhoods from self-destructing, and to help young men and women convert their misguided street ambition into entrepreneurship.

      _Miss_702_ I definitely understand. I always try to figure out what area of the world they come from. If I’m talking to someone from southern Louisiana or the Caribbean Creole is someone mixed with African, European and Native American. However, if they are from Haiti I know Creole means a freed slave. Then Creole could mean two languages blended together. It definitely can get complicated.

      I hear different versions of RFB.
      The most talk about one is Lee Bee from DLB starting RFB on 9th Ave. RFB being some kind of umbrella set having VN DL BH & BPS under it... D-Mack from BH comes to mind.
      Then there is another version on an R50s in VN hood which was nothing but VNs on 54 & St.Andrews/Manhattan Area....

      @@KevMacVideos Lee Bee is the #1 RFB but the ones who started RFB was Lee Bee and M Bone. They were looked at as founders. M Bone's little brother Big Reese Dawg (50s.I.P), Nuttyboi aka Father of the 50s, Sam and Big S. Hill Will (Big Sugarhill Will) were a few years younger and were looked at as co-founders. I'm not from LA but I'm RFB out of town. Last year Lee Bee called my phone and we spoke about RFB forming up. RFBxDLB=50LANES...I met Nuttyboi before he got locked up and I'm in constant communication with him. Nutty just wrote me a few weeks ago. If you want to know the history of RFB get in touch with the names I mentioned. Plus since this is about the history of the 50s ask around about the 50s FTB started by Gary Zeigler(R.I.P). Vardry Zeigler (last time I spoke to him he was in Lawrenceville, GA) was next in line. Vardry told about 2 years ago that a Brim named Moneytree was the bridge between 30s FTB and 50s FTB. 50s FTB was so small they didn't even have there own hood. They mixed in with VNG/RFB. Type in Vardry Zeigler on Facebook. He's on there.

    I'm thinking people were uneducated on the "cribs"thing like AC said. Especially after that news article misprinted it.

    • @KevMacVideos
      @KevMacVideos  2 года назад +6

      If I remember correctly we found two articles before the misprint so even that tale about the newspaper is mythical as far I my research goes if I remember correctly.

      @@KevMacVideos I think you're correct Kev. I just be in awe when it's brought up because, I respectfully feel like if it was a thing, more people will be saying it too. The majority from what i see, say "CRIPS". I don't think it will be any shame especially how we've heard others switch sets, We've heard sets change their name, and we've heard people switch colors.

    Cool first half of the interview! Who/what influenced the name of the term Crips? Through documentaries it's been stated it was the media? Was it the media? Or was it more so of a local term that was already established?

    • @KevMacVideos
      @KevMacVideos  2 года назад +4

      Definitely wasn’t the media. That’s what spawned our passion to research these European myths published in literature to shape the minds of our people. It’s similar to slavery where they stripped us of our language and names so we wouldn’t know our family history.

      @@KevMacVideos I hear you! From what was discovered was the term Crip a term used by local brothas and sistas because they would carry canes? Or is that another myth as well?

    • @KevMacVideos
      @KevMacVideos  2 года назад +3

      My opinion, not fact based, just a guess, the canes came after the term Crips was founded. Just like the earrings, ballheads, and everything else that became attached to the aura of the Crips attire. Of course, canes made for a hood weapon to carry because it wasn’t illegal.
