This was really helpful. While I've done my professional demos on a Neumann U87 and TLM 49 I own the Sennheiser MK4 for my home studio. Your video has strengthened my confidence that I did just fine with the MK4. I'd certainly love to have a Neumann but this video tells me that I don't actually need one! Thanks!
Awesome! Yeah, love Neumanns but I like the MK4 because it's a bit less dark for my voice and EQing to taste is easy with this one. I have another Mic shootout on my channel and will probably post a third one this week. Subscribe if you haven't already. Thanks for watching!
I appreciate the blind shoot-out. If we were picking just straight raw audio, I'd go with Mic A as that is closer to how I like my voice-overs to sound. Comparing the two side by side, I think Mic B is too heavy in the low mids. All that all being said, my hunch is that once you clean up the low end of Mic B you'll end up with a much better sound than Mic A. To my ear, Mic B has a smoother, more open top end. It's just being overshadowed by those low mids.
Ok considering the price difference you mentioned, it's pretty impressive that one costs less than half than the other. They both sound nice and I think A sounds like crispier and B sounds warmer, but I have to recognize that if I'm not looking at the screen watching the letters switch it'ss even harder to tell the difference as that crisp sounds is only noticeable with certain sounds. If I have to make a veredict as a personal choice I'd pick B. Thanks for sharing this video and I hope you reveal which one is which soon, have great day.
BTW I just bought an MK4 partially based off your NT1/MK4 video. Mic B to my ears sounded boxy/muddy whereas Mic A seemed a little brighter. I know the MK4 has a little bump in the midrange so I felt Mic A was the MK4. BTW I'm really liking the MK4.
Hi brother!!! Hey, what do you think of the SE2200Se electronics compared to the MK4? I just want to find the best microphone under $350 to record singing mainly!and my options narrowed down to these 2. I hope you can help me with your opinion brother!! Amazing voice!!!
Hey Bro. I really like that mic, I used to own it.After I purchased the TLM 102, I sold it to make up some of the money. I like the MK4 and would put the Se in the same level, but ultimately find the one the suits you voice and application, singing or VO. Hope that helps.
Since this was posted 2-years ago, you likely won't respond. But the reason I came here is that I do audiobook narration with an NT1-A and it seems way too sensitive to my sibilance. The de-esser in my Adobe Audition 1.5 makes me sound like I recorded with peanut butter in my mouth, so I have to go through every chapter I record and manually reduce every 's'. So I would like very much to hear a comparison between the MK4 and the NT1. Thanks, if you can do that.
Mic B seems to have a slight bump in the mids giving it a little more body compared to mic A. At what bitrate did you upload this? It might be more apparent if the audio quality was set to highest on RUclips.
Thanks for watching! A= MK4 B= 102.😎 they are both great mics. My default is the MK4 for what you mention, it’s more clear. The 102 is a bit too dark on my voice in this room.

I've used the MK4 for years with a DBX286 & MOTU M2 and I call the mic a TLM101
That’s pretty accurate model number for it!

I think mic B sounds better, it has more presence when you speak into it.
I’ll reveal the mic soon. Thanks for commenting and watching.
Mic A = MK4 | Mic B = TLM 102.
I like them both. A sounds open and B sounds warm. Which one is which?

A sounds thinner hmm.. So it sounds thinner than the small tlm 102 0.o.
maybe thats why it s cheaper
The mk4 is the neumann little cousin( Sennheiser own Neumann ). Both are made in the same factory in Germany.
Correct! Thanks for watching

Agreeing with both Gabby and iRockMusic -- B sounds warmer and IMHO, better. Really curious which is which. I suspect B is the 102 (I have a 103)

Hello,Sir
May you recommend this Mic for Podast or Talk show?
Greeting from Brazil.
It depends on your room. Is the room treated for sound reflections and to block outside noise? You might want to try a dynamic mic instead.
