7 years later, i just got quoted exactly $437.80 from a mechanic saying the only way to fix my brake light is to get new genuine parts from mitsubishi in western australia. I simply re inserted the cables and it worked again, lancer boot doors close pretty aggressively so the cables could get loose from time to time. cheers legend for saving us from daylight robbery.
Thanks for the instructions. I simply reinserted the connector 2 times and now the light works. You might have saved me ~39 Euros on a useless LED replacement. 😀
Shop called me and told me it $140 for the replacement. Popped the cover off and saw the plug simply came unclipped from slamming the trunk. Clipped it back in and it works fine now.
Interestingly I found on a few of these the pins are not making contact after years of trunk slams. Adjusting the pins for better contact, or adding a very thin metal shim to the female connector fixed every single one. The LED's all still worked.
How long should these lights last? I think mine is out, and only after purchasing the recommended light and getting that whole fabric cover off did I realize that the light was a full part all its own... Making brake lights like this seems like a purposely expensive move like the tire pressure monitors in tires. I had my valve break off my tire a short time ago, and they would not cover the cost of the sensor, so even though the tires were new within the year, they would not replace the tire because it was fine, or cover the valve cost, so rather than a new tire for free...I got my used tire repaired and put on for $70 :(

Thats how I became a mechanic, places asking me for a ridiculous amount for something that has to bolts and takes 5 minutes.
Test it works before replacing liner. I got one on eBay for $23

It really helped me a lot. Already thinking to buy new one, but your suggestion did the fix. Thank you.
