When people say "trust the science," I think they really mean "we'll take the advice of credentialed professionals at the top of their fields over the advice of people with no demonstrated expertise whatsoever." Everybody knows that best practices for any situation can change with advancements in knowledge and technology. That doesn't mean you should toss the current best practices out the window.

@@southmcl Because we've had "trust the science" shoved down our throat while suppressing the scientific process. Outside perspective is so helpful. Many of the things we're doing in the west are mistakes that have been made elsewhere to absolutely devestating effects. We should pay attention to those people wanting to immigrate here for better opportunity and life when they tell us that things here are going in a bad direction, because they know, they've lived it.
Thanks for saying so. I am an immigrant; migrated to Australia a decade ago after a few years of studies. We are definitely losing our liberties here but white Australians don’t seem to care. I think that they take freedom for granted. And they do not know any better. At this stage, I would say that there is more freedom in developing countries than in Australia. Quality of life and service standards have greatly diminished too.
The problem with terror bombing is it was clear after a point that it wasn't working in breaking morale. As Perun said in his video on strategic bombing, "people throughout history hate being bombed but they hate being taken over by people who bombed them even more"
On a recent NPR piece about body shaming, a trigger warning was given for the term "fat" being used. Just a minute later, though, the interviewee said we shouldn't call out children for using the term "fat" because that will imply to them that there is something wrong with BEING fat, and that it's more than just the word that is a problem. Well...then why did they give the trigger warning for the word "fat" just a minute earlier??? They seemed even more confused than I was.

Age is not the issue. Job performance should be the judge. If you've not shown up for work, or your work is sub-standard, you should go no matter how old you are. Politics has no job qualification. Any turd can become a politician. That's not right.
You cannot evaluate a piece of work outside the context of its time. It should be approached as a chance to educate and learn about how much society has changed, for better or worse.
Whats funny to me about the Spielberg thing is that in any recent time that movie would still be fitting. Kids have escaped with an alien life form that garnered national and government attention, of course there would be police with guns.
Long overdue and a series of examples among Democrats. Feinstein, Biden, Fetterman. All in obvious cognitive decline but they keep them there to control the seat. RBG was the exception when they asked her to retire so they could fill in the seat.
In practically the same breath, Moynihan said that RFK won’t be given a chance to debate and he will be pushed aside and then criticized him for saying that he thinks he’s being censored. Doublespeak much? And then he goes on to refer to Orwellianism at the end of the interview 😂 you can’t make this stuff up
Caught that too, but I think his thinking is there is a difference between speaking out in public (books, internet, etc.) and being a member in good standing of an organization that is permitted to close ranks and doors to outsiders. So in this regard, RFK can say anything he wants and run for President. But the DNC shutting him out of the their process isn't censorious...it's just them deciding who is in their private club. One thing most people don't know is the Democrats do not permit open runs, for anything. They write rules for primaries and party job that are designed to maintain establishment purity by ignoring actual voters (see: Bernie). The Republican Party, on the other hand, uses a straight-line vote of people. The RNC is the more "democratic" of the two institutions in that regard (Donald Trump would have been "Bernied" by the RNC in 2016 if they had the rules to do it). This might be why we are seeing a lot more populist movement on the R side of the aisle these days - voters actually have some measure of voice in the RNC (at least marginaly more than the DNC).
From what I have read online (take it for what it is worth) Steve Bannon is the one encouraging Robert Kennedy Jr. to run... but no mention of that. Haven't been able to confirm if that is true.
Bannon wants RKJ to run as Don the Con's VP. It's to the same end. To split the Democrats vote and let his stooge win. Democrats don't need a "better" choice, they need the same good choice to stop the worst choice, AGAIN.

But is that a real story? Not like it is any different from the rest of American history. The two parties are also not the sole organizers of many of the debates also. Some folks with autoimmune issues find that wearing the masks has been beneficial.
I also wear a mask outside because of my allergies. But too many people (Bill included) are so narrow minded after Covid that they think masks are for Covid and nothing else.
@@nadiamccall4311 the only thin good about covid for me- pollen- the wheezing, sneezing, eyes watering, wasn't as bad when I wore the mask. I feel like writing the word ;pollen' on my mask- because I do wonder if people are judging me, but- I can live with that if it means relief from pollen.

Need to have RFK jr on the show.
Stay tuned.
No debates no democracy
This whole episode was refreshing
Glad to see Bill defend RFK Jr
kinda funny how the guest wanted to make fun of RFK for mentioning getting censored and sentences later, he seems really glad that RFK won't be on debates held by the DNC

One of the best Real Time episodes ever - Bill had his A Game and the guests were spot on.

Aww Bill, why go on about people wearing masks outside alone?
I'll keep doing it. Not out of fear for my life,
but because it's like sunglasses for your mouth, and it helps a lit with my allergies, even though they are like super minor dust allergies.
Can't imagine what it's doing for those with heavier allergies.
Correct! Sometimes i also walk around with a full-face helmet
I wear a Victorian scuba diving helmet when I go ANYWHERE.
Actually, I liked the masks, whether they helped with Covid or not. Most people look so much better with their faces covered up.
You do you, if you want to wear masks do it. Leave the rest of us alone
It's ridiculous of ppl to talk shyt about someone wearing a mask outside. International students at our universities have been doing it for years.
It looks odd but doesn't harm anyone.
Bashing ppl for masks is just a reveal of that persons' ignorance and need to attack others that are different.
FYI, I do not wear a mask, even while scuba diving...
I think Overtime should drop CNN
As a veteran of three foreign wars. Please explain, How does Ukraine war benefit the US?
Because it lines up with the US's main foreign goal that it's had for decades now: to limit or neutralize Russian influence on a global scale. Ukraine kicking Russia's ass accomplishes this in spades.
I wonder why there was no mention on the show about Don Lemon and CNN. Was Mr Free Speech Bill Maher told what he can't say now Overtime is on CNN
It’s a nothing story - he’s been irrelevant for a long time
Because tucker had the number one show and lemon’s was low rated ( morning one). So one you could see coming the other was a huge shock to many. And that’s why everybody was talking more about Carson’s ouster not just Bill.
I believe the proper way to put it is "I believe in the Scientific Method" 😂
When people say "trust the science," I think they really mean "we'll take the advice of credentialed professionals at the top of their fields over the advice of people with no demonstrated expertise whatsoever."
Everybody knows that best practices for any situation can change with advancements in knowledge and technology. That doesn't mean you should toss the current best practices out the window.
@@mikel5582 Hate to drag this into it, but there's also something to be said when it comes to the susceptibility of influence over such "experts". Also, I'm starting to think there is a herd effect when it comes to public consensus. No expert wants to be the single one to stand out against consensus, lest they be labeled as a science denier, even if they have good arguments. I also tend to trust the science, but it's hard not to be selective when things scream bullshit.
@@southmcl
Because we've had "trust the science" shoved down our throat while suppressing the scientific process.
"The scientific process is iterative, meaning that it may require multiple rounds of hypothesis testing and experimentation before arriving at a well-supported conclusion. Furthermore, the scientific method encourages critical thinking, skepticism, and the constant pursuit of new knowledge to refine and expand our understanding of the world."
Bill doesn't even believe in that. He's still a vaccine denier who's ego wont allow him to admit he was wrong..ever!
I'm sorry to be the one to disagree, but RFK Jr. IS kind of a nut.
Overtime on CNN just doesn't have the same flavor
It's bizarre. At least once per OT, someone swears and they have to tell everyone they can't do that because they're on CNN.
Time for CNN to take the training wheels off and realize most people watching at 11:30pm are adults.
Once people actually hear RFK Jr's policies, he won't be polling anywhere close to 19%
Compared to Joe Biden's policies? I don't mind wearing my underwear on the outside.
Actually, it's just the opposite. One of his main policies is to end corporate control of our government which lead to illegal mandates and shutdowns. This policy resonates with millions and his numbers will only grow as a result.
Konstantin, great guest and fantastic to see him appear on a US show spreading his balanced and rational views.
The problem with terror bombing is it was clear after a point that it wasn't working in breaking morale. As Perun said in his video on strategic bombing, "people throughout history hate being bombed but they hate being taken over by people who bombed them even more"
Really great show Bill!
Excellent episode, excellent guests!
Seymout Hersh would be an excellet guest to discuss unpopular Joe Biden
This is how we save our country. Three people with differing opinions sit down and have a civil discussion and the rest of us “take class”.
They seem to agree on a lot, though. Three males, maybe some difference in backgrounds, but not that dissimilar thinking. As are most of Maher's guests, in my view

Feinstein should resign

Long overdue and a series of examples among Democrats.
Feinstein, Biden, Fetterman. All in obvious cognitive decline but they keep them there to control the seat.
RBG was the exception when they asked her to retire so they could fill in the seat.
@@Sappho123 my bad, I misunderstood the tone of your response then. Sorry about that
In practically the same breath, Moynihan said that RFK won’t be given a chance to debate and he will be pushed aside and then criticized him for saying that he thinks he’s being censored.

He's a sitting president. I'm not defending it but it would be without precedent.
did the criminal Trump do it in 2020? no!
Incumbent presidents don't debate their own party as a rule.
They also game the support statistics which is why so many people that only absorb corporate news are surprised to hear Marianne Williamson polled at 10% or RFK Jr at 19%.
Not only do they not see those polls, some, like Marianne Williamson have their results completely removed from the poll.
But is that a real story? Not like it is any different from the rest of American history. The two parties are also not the sole organizers of many of the debates also.
"there is no history of either main party organizing primary debates when they have an incumbent in the White House seeking a second term.
The Republican Party didn't hold any primary debates ahead of the 2020 presidential election, when incumbent Trump easily was again chosen by his party."
