I had no interest in making fruit cake/black cake for the holidays until I came across this recipe. The cakes came out excellent!🔥🔥🔥 I added all of the fruits and they came out MOIST and delicious. My only mistake is I wish I grinded the dry sorrel leaves a little more or used fresh sorrel leaves instead- but besides that, God bless you for this amazing recipe. It was a hit!
I was going to make your vegan black cake until I saw this recipe! I fell in love with the thought of adding sorrel to black cake. I made this cake vegan and it was delicious! One of the best. I’m sending everyone to your page!
I am so glad l watch your show, l learn something important today. After l make my sorrel juice, l dump the pulp so l was impressed to see what it can do thank you and am going to try that cake.
I agree with you. Plus the eggshells also and removing the white eye from each egg to avoid the renking smell. My eggs have to be beat separate with lemon and orange zest.
Noce one Sis. Grandma recipes are always amazing. So Sorrel cake is not a new thing, that is awesome to know. Miss Donna in JA is not the first to make it then. Kool. Enjoy baking this year. Bless Up.
Wow - Looks delicious. I've never made a cake with sorrel before. I will try this on the week-end. Thanks "Taste of Trini" for sharing all your great recipes. Looking forward for more in the coming year. Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year to you and your family.
Looks yummy you can also after its cool when you soak for the second time wrap in cling wrap it will stay moist you will not need to soak again once it keeps wrapped
sorry to be offtopic but does anyone know a way to log back into an instagram account? I was dumb lost the password. I appreciate any tips you can offer me.
@Josiah Decker thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and im trying it out now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Thanks for sharing. This is an interesting recipe. It goes beyond Black Cake with the addition of sorrel. This is Black Cake + even the color is interesting. I would love to taste it without any additional sugar. It looks delicious! I love the warning, "You don't have to use the whole bottle of rum on the fruit" because you know somebody out here will be going all in, right?
Looks scrumptious girl 👌🏽🌟I bake my Christmas cakes in those tins✨also after Christmas I get the tins at Walmart for 50cents sometimes less☃️wonderful for gifts🎄🎄🎄
Very yummy, Happy Holidays to you and your husband. Also to all your Family in Trinidad.Have a safe flight to and back to NY..Have lot's of fun and enjoy everything .
Just divine:) Really wish I saw this video before I made my black cakes!! Looks suuuper lush!! The cake tins are SO gorgeous and a great decoration for gifting!!! Merry Christmas to you and yours Resh!!
Awww...next time you can try it out. Yes, I love these tins. I get them every year at the Dollar Tree, and someone else mentioned that Walmart has them. Merry Christmas to you and your family! Thank you for the continued love and support!
So I made this today and it was delicious. Except I didn’t use alcohol for the fruits. I used sorrel I made and had in the fridge to soak the fruits and left it to soak for about an hour. Worked just as good. I didn’t add anything to soak it after baking either but yet still delicious. Low and slow made it perfect and it’s moist. Thanks for sharing.
Changed my recipe to try this one this year- love the idea of sorrel syrup in the cake and on top. I’m also trying a chocolate fruitcake, adding some cocoa powder to the dry ingredients- think it’ll be a nice spin as well - thanks for the recipes
I have been adding chocolate powder for about 20yrs to my black cake. Everyone says there is something different we just can't put our finger on it, but it is delicious... Lol.... Never gave out my secret 😜😜😜 This year I will be adding sorrel in some. I know it will be a hit. Great video.
Hello Reshmi have you ever thought of taking in cake order you will be rich your cake is rich and delicious very beautiful host I love your shows I hope you and family stay safe
Great recipe, loaded with fruits. However currants are not smaller raisins the two are totally different. Also mixed peel is candied citrus peel, mixed fruit is candied pawpaw also known as tutti fruitti.

Very nice Video I will make my Sorrel Cake for the Season Your voice is so smooth and your accent is wonderfully explained every method was clearly understood.👍
Hi. Thank you for your time and effort in helping us be better cooks. Do I put the cake in the fridge or leave it out side for the soaking process? Thanks.
Pleasant Morning to you. I have been following you and Batman for approximately a year and a couple of months. I wanted to truly thank you for sharing your passion for cooking and baking. You have definitely added many more dishes to my cooking . Being Bajan and Trini I am like a chameleon in the kitchen lol. Anyway my Mum passed away this year and I wasn't able to get her recipe for baking black cake, being that it is made once a year and since we relocated, she didn't bake in her elder years, so I did not remember from childhood how to make it. Your recipe is very welcoming and I will take a hand at it. My mom had her ways that were passed down from Tannie and I now I have embraced those qualities as well. Thank you once again. Maybe I will bounce into you in Trini or NY. All the best!
Hi sweetie good morning!💕💕 Merry Christmas to you and your family!🎄🎄🎄 I did a few sorrel recipes this week i will try your recipe and add to my list!! I love the idea of using sorrel in your fruit cake which looks absolutely mouth watering and divine!😋😋😋😋🌺🌺🌺🌺☺☺☺☺🖒🖒🖒🖒😋😋😋😋💕💕💕💕
All Caribbean people make fruit cake and sorrel at Xmas, it's just that Jamaicans seem to think that they are the only people who know anything about cooking. If it doesn't have scotch bonnet peppers or coconut milk to them you can't cook.
@@bonitaweekes4366 that's rude, unkind and untrue. You could simply provide the information that many islands (because not all do) and know you provide info to someone. Remember not many people are exposed to the intimate rituals and customs of a neighbouring country, usually you only know what you been exposed to or if someone marries into your family.
Taste of Trini. So grateful for your recipe on the sorrel fruit cake. I note you use vanilla & almond essence. I don't know whether you are aware that most of these essence from T'dad & the USA are chemicals and not real vanilla or almond. If you doubt what I say, just look at the ingredients listed on the bottle. Also look at the content of the cherry brandy . I love all your recipe and your beautiful Trinidadians accent. No accent come close to the sweetness of the Trini accent.
Oh, I forgot to say that the orange and lime skin are glazed with wax. I can see the shine. No doubt it comes from the USA Only unwaxed citrus skin should be used in baking.
Hey, just made this cake- oh my god!! Delicious Can you tell me how long these cakes would last in my pantry or should I put them in the fridge? Just worried about soaking them with the sorrel and rum combo, not sure if’s the sorrel would make them spoil easier Please let me know Thx Dawn
"Fruit cake can be frozen probably for about a year or even longer. Just make sure it is completely defrosted before decorating. Wrap the cake up well in parchment paper and several layers of cling film, and store in either a box or in a plastic bag. When defrosting, it is better to leave wrapping on to keep the moisture in."
Your cake looks delicious 😋....Thanks for sharing how you make your Xmas cake with us!! I have a food grade bucket soaking with my fruits all year round with wine & rum, I also use red wine instead of water when burning my brown sugar...☮️😊❤️

I agree with you. Plus the eggshells also and removing the white eye from each egg to avoid the renking smell. My eggs have to be beat separate with lemon and orange zest.
