Awesome axolotl we got one back in September for my 2 year and I’ve learned so much just to properly care for him. Recommended 30 gal for one axolotl. Hopefully you can get his gills to fill up and regrow looks like wherever you got him from they didn’t properly care for him.
Was kinda curious this other “ fish “ RUclips channel I watch said not to put any sand or small rocks because the acolotl would try and eat them. Is that true?
Sadly yes I had black sand and it cause blockage for a like a week no poop or anything so ours is without sand now. An definitely no pebbles they can choke and or need immediate vet care to have them removed.
I’ve seen at the aquarium where they put a saucer or other glass cup in for feeding to prevent them from sucking up sand with their worms. Have you tried this and does it help?
When you get the opportunity add a hide because axolotls like hides and also when you upgrade the tank make it a 20 gallon so he can swim around more .

and you should cycle the tank before introducing the axolotl to the tank.
he will change the tank like he said its just a quick emergency tank
For a young axolotl you can start with a tank with less gallons since they can get stressed if it has to much empty space

The axolotl might die from stress because you need to get them ready by slowly letting them adjust to the water and as soon as you can buy a hide

A ten gallon for sure would be better, because the minimum tank size for an axolotl to thrive (unless you do water changes a lot) is 20 gallons. 15 gal works too, but 20+ is better.
Yeah the blood worms are for The axolotl I have 2 at home and we feed them Nightcrawlers and frozen blood worm Cubes.A axaltol needs a 20 gallon tank you can also have 1 to 2 in a 20 gallon of there are more the 2 in a 20 gallon tank they will eat others legs/toes and limbs.I love you Channel to!!☺

Please PLEASE don't take the axolotl out of water. They are purely aquatic salamanders. They are very, VERY fragile. If you need to move them, coax them gently into a container and move them that way, filled with water.
