This is incredible! It's not often that you have a top pro player teaching the public about the sport. I'll have to try out the footwork once the christmas holidays end and the gym opens up again
This is really outstanding stuff. I find the footwork aspect particularly inspiring - I have never seen a player keep the feet so square to the end of the table, most players pull the right foot (for a right hander) back significantly from the table for a topspin shot. I love that with his technique, as soon as you have completed the stroke, you are perfectly in position for whatever comes at you next! No need to bring the feet back to the recovery position. Trying it out, for me it also seems to make it easier to use the whole body to generate the swing, as I typically have a lot of trouble with my stroke coming from the arm rather than the body. Thanks for this excellent content!!
Thank you very much! Could you please clarify the role of the wrist in FH? How to give an upper-lateral spin to the ball? Where should the eyes look at the moment of the hit? At the ball or should I look where I want to hit?
Hi Anders, thanks for the video. I was training at Remisen when you were only about 11 years old. At that time you were amazing and you became an incredible table tennis player! Congratulations!
My forehand looks exactly like the example of what not to do at 1:40. Thanks for the examples so I could see the difference. I wonder if a way to expand on the video explanation may be: the bad version uses the arm to take the backswing, which is too unstable, whereas the correct version uses the whole body to take the backswing. Then, good contact is made when it feels like the body is hitting the ball and the arm simply does a salute-like follow through.
You’ve hit most of the essentials of FH loop. Concise and easy to follow. Kudos to you, my admired creative and amusing TT star. It’s sheer of joy watching you play. We are all amused by your amazing side spin chopping stroke. Merry Christmas and keep it up. Edward from USA.🎉
Well done. Please make also a Video about the equipment you use. e.g.: What rubbers you play now? what you played before? why you change and what improved? What blade you use? Donic is imo currently very underrated
She has a v good block! I get loads of topspin but have always struggled with speed, to the point where top players will often move back and play slower higher shots in return knowing I can't finish it off. Hoping to use some of these tips - particularly the hip/shoulder rotation
Oh, thank you so much. The thing that I really need to improve in last months is my forehand topspin (and also FH pushes/flicks in general). Btw, I already play TT for years, and in 2021-23 I've been playing and working on technic, but despite some successes in this I still have bad "amateurish" habbits both in technic and in mindset. I just keep hoping that once I'll get a real opportunity to work on my game fundamentally, and of course I'm trying to find this
The most condensed knowledge I can offer: FH topspin is all around lower arm acceleration (using the elbow joint). And BH topspin is all about wrist acceleration. Without it you will either get no power at all or have a really low hit ratio. Focus on those two points before addressing anything else.
Really good stuff, Anders. With some professional editing and more camera angles this will be top-notch content for any table tennis player! Maybe someone will want to help you with that?
Dear Anders, I used to play at amateur level and was a table tennis coach. Thanks for your great videos. I like your style. Unfortunately the audio quality is not good. You need either a lavalier microphone on your body or a boom microphone like the Sennheiser MKE 600 or Rode Videomic NTG near the camera. Then the sound will work much better ❤ Best regards, Oliver from Germany
Hi Anders. I'm so sad that I cannot put what you taught in my real game. I've been struggling with my forehand topspin, which is my biggest weakness. Anyway, much appreciation to your hard work. I dream one day I can execute my forehand as powerfully as you do in real game . Thank you. Hanh Ng
Thanks you a lot Anders, I believe (as we all who love this our wonderful TT sport that is underrated from the mass) that others who is been watching you as me and other athletes that we appreciate your work very much towards us!
@@AnderslindTT Anders спасибо! Можете рассказать, какие санкции были за тот удар ногой в монитор? Anders thank you! Can you tell me what the sanctions were for that kick to the monitor?
Awesome video. You are an amazing talent on the world stage. Just to clarify, when you playing the top spin stroke you using your wrist as well and do you strike the ball as a pure top spin or more of a sidespin topspin?
Really love your videos ! I have been following for ages now and always learn something when watching ! Please keep it up ! I have one question. I am an advanced amateur player and I have this problem where during games I am so scared to attack first somehow. Maybe it’s mental or because the opponent pushes into my awkward positions. I was wondering if you would consider making a video into the ‘aggressive mindset’ of table tennis players. Specifically how to get the right mentality. I am very curious to hear what your thought process/instincts are when you play. Specifically open ups and follow up ball Thanks again and please keep up the good work !
I like to think about it this way.. if youre aggresive and go for the right shots it might be risky, but you can definitely win if you play well.. but if you are playing passive and giving your opponent control of the game its much much more unlikely to win. Try to remember its only a tt match. No reason to be scared, play your game and if you win its great. If lose you get another chance next match 😊
@@AnderslindTT thanks a lot for your comment and advice ! Definitely agree that I feel much more regret after games I loose because I was too passive … I will keep this in mind and try my best to just have fun and attack more :)
Hello Anders! I've been training for 15 hours a week for almost 2 years now, but I've always had a hard time with the FH topspin, I often overswing my arms. I've been looking for a long time for a video like this, where a professional european style player demonstrates the correct move. I am also left handed with Bluestorm Z2. Thanks to your videos I have improved a lot in recent times. Keep it up and good luck in your career!
Very precise and easy to understand. Thank you. Could you please make a video on how to do a forehand drive with a short ball, by going around the table to make room? I know, It won't be as fast as a long ball when you can swing the arm fully. I can do it by backhand, but I find it difficult for forehand.
Thank you for the video! Especially the relaxing thing before hitting the ball is interesting for me. I will try to improve it . (And all the other things you mentioned. Iguess I make all the mistakes…) Cheers, your new follower
Merry Christmas Anders! What do you think about having your feet square as opposed to your dominant foot further behind? I notice your legs are more square than a lot of pros, so i think more shoulder rotation needed to get the power but a shorter transition to BH?
Depends on the level.. on high level now all is about being fast and keeping a good position.. so the shorter transition to backhand is a very big deal, but if the game is more slow its not as important.
Thank you very much. Very good advice overall. And no stupid "but first a few word about the sponsor of this video..." Excellent. Can you please go a little bit more into the details of the correct positioning and the right timing to hit the ball, how long the stroke should be etc.?
Thanks for the great video. Though this is quite some advanced level nuances. For most people, I would say the most important point is that the acceleration needs to come from the lower arm. This matches with point one from the video. And after that the second most important point is to have the same angle towards the ball during the whole stroke. So not starting with an open bat and finishing with a closed one.
I think that a cheap remote mic, or at least some eq work in editing, would do wonders for your videos. This video specificaly is really helpful but relatively hard to follow because of the audio being hard to understand.
Hi Anders, great content, thanks! Ever thought/worried about pressure points of the hand holding the bat (like thumb placement on/off the rubber)? Or where on the palm of your hand do you rest the handle etc? If it just came naturally to you nevermind :D
It is a very important thing however its one of the last details more advanced thing in tabletennis. I wouldnt focus on it since its a very small thing.
Thanks so much, I started playing off and on again a few years ago and my forehand is much weaker. I've always wondered what I'm doing wrong...now I know. Players avoid my backhand because its decent and they target my forehand. Now, they are in for big trouble once I get this under my belt...I will be INVINCIBLE!! 😋😛😝
What is your view on wrist use whilst playing forehand? My view is that there is almost none possible except with a backhand grip. That way you can use the wrist more like penhold players (flexion/ extension in the wrist). If you play a neutral grip/ forehand grip you can at best use the wrist minimally (abduction/adduction).
Can you say a little bit on the contact point? Your hit as well as Chinese players’ hits seems to have very large and heavy contact against the ball but the people I play against who are better than me always tells me to do the brush contact for spins. Are you also brushing on the top of the ball but it’s so fast that looks like you’re contacting the ball almost directly?
Hi Anders, Love your content, love seeing you in action. I have one question and maybe you can help me with an answer. Here goes: I've started playing a year and a half ago, I totally fell in love with this sport and I'm playing at least twice a week, sometimes maybe 4 or 5 times. Ever since I started playing, I noticed a muscle imbalance, meaning my dominant side got bigger and stronger, which creates some issues in my wellbeing. How do you deal with this? It's expected that the dominant side to get bigger, given those hundreds and hundreds of movement we do when stroking the ball, so how do we counter this? Do you have any advice in this regard?
Hey. My left side is also way bigger than right one. It is like that for every pro i know. Its not to make the difference go away. Its impossible. But you have to try and make the difference as small as possible. Now that your dominant side is bigger it means if you go to gym and do things with both arms and same weight. Your weaker side will struggle more than the dominant and will catch up automatically a little bit. Thats what i do. When i do things for both my left side feels nothing and my right side is struggling 😄
Wonderful video and thank you! I see your forearm is at a 90 degree angle going back so where does the power come from? Your wrist? I cant see where your follow through ends. Thank you!
From hips and rotation. my arm is literally only holding my racket until the moment i hit the ball and then the rotation from my hips / lower back combined with the acceleration in lower arm /wrist creates a lot of power
hi Anders, bit of feedback, if you're interested: you talking is difficult to hear due to the hall acoustics. What you could do is hook up a clip-on mic to your phone, and record your audio on that.
