John Malcolm Thorpe Fleming Churchill was born in Hong Kong, and graduated from the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst in 1926. He would later earn the nickname “Mad Jack” or “Fighting Jack” for fighting with a longbow, bagpipes, and a sword in World war two.

The video failed to mention this, but captured German machinegunners were asked why they didnt shoot him when they had a clear chance to do so. They said that they thought he was mentally unwell and took pitty on him.

Imagine the shock and confusion for the Germans when they found out someone killed their men with sword wounds and arrows.
That would have caused the germans to take major hits to their moral. Just imagine you lose an entire regiment, spy comes back and tells you how they captured your men with a sword and a bow and arrow. That would break me man. I give my soldiers these state of the art guns, and they lose to a fricken bow and arrow. Thats like going into an MMORPG and you like DUDE I GOT GUNS IM OP HAHA and the level 900 with bow maxed out just one hits your entire army.

But it's moot, as body armor was not really a thing in ww2
During his later years he would take a train home from work. Passengers would be shocked when he opened a window and tossed his briefcase into a garden along the tracks and then he would get off the train, walk home and go out into his garden and pick up his briefcase. He lived beside the tracks and so decided it was easier to throw his case into his garden instead of carrying it home. The train driver was apparently in on it

This makes perfect sense. I’ve often thrown my work bag from a moving consist. Heck, jumped off them too even though it’s not ohs etc. the tricky bit is the ballast. It’s like Big Sand and not nice on unexpected ankles. You need to lace your boots decently tight.

Plot armor in history comes from the fact that you don't hear about the madmen who died/retired after they were shot. We tell the story about the people who defy the odd, be it by skill or dumb luck. How much would you know about Mad Jack if he had died the day he landed on the beach with his bagpipes?

Another fun fact about Jack Churchill - after he retired and was living in England, on his train ride home every day he would throw his briefcase out of the train window. He later explained that he was tossing his case into his own back garden so he would not have to carry it from the station.
He was a type of badass chivalric crazy we just dont make anymore.
Maybe that's a sign of a change for good. For people like him war is a game, competition, a way of life. They have no regard for life and death.
Even though its enjoyable to hear stories about people like him, you don't really want them around.
Yeah, not to mention that the circumstance today is so much different. He went through two world wars, whilst there hasn't really been a conflict like that since. I think that if the world today was like it had been from the 1910s to 1940s than we probably would see people like Mad Jack coming up.

Col Churchill was a friend of my fathers and stayed with us in Brisbane . I was probably about 8 or 9 at the time .. He wrote to me for a number of years after, I of course wrote to him in return. he sent me a painting of himself as the Col Comdt of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He always referred to the English as Sassenachs ( a derogatory Scottish term ) for the English. Also i can remember he remarked in one letter how they were taking the kilts away and having to wear British postman's uniforms. . It was only later in life i learnt he was an Englishman

My great grandfather fought in WW1. He said Knight regiment still exist in WW1. They usually fight on horseback, but still wearing plate armor. The knight come when the rifles already engage in melee. They charge with pike, sword and handgun.
