    I love how plant people acknowledge their plants as living beings like a dog or a cat “he doesn’t like it” “he might be in shock, I hope he’ll be ok” “if he doesn’t like it he’ll let you know”

    You’re right about not overwatering it however if you mist it even daily including the pups your plant will thrive and throw out more pups for you. a little bit of pampering never hurt any plants, you know

    I have used my Spider Plant for Christmas/birthday gifts before... I take a small mason jar, put in a spider plant pup (with roots) with enough distilled water to cover the roots, and you have a brand new plant that will grow for 4-6 weeks or so sealed in the jar before it NEEDS to be replanted in soil... and then you have a cool new spider plant that will be making it's own babies and cleaning the air in your home before too long. Granted, your recipient needs to appreciate the "little things" and not be expecting a brand new iPhone or something, haha ;)

Best of luck!

    I wish people would stop labelling spider plants as "easy to care for" because they are not. I've had many and have not managed to keep them. Only today I've put my last half dead two out in my UK garden to fend for themselves, I genuinely don't care if they live or die, I've tried everything. Currently looking online for an imitation plastic one for the house, surely I'll be able to keep this one alive.

      Its a bit difficult to know without seeing it myself but not necessarily. They like to be a bit more pot bound so maybe wait a while. If it stops growing during the spring or summer then give it a bigger pot!

    • @GoodGrowing

      They like well draining soil, but a little bit moist. You could use cactus soil but you'll likely have to water a bit more frequently than general potting mix.

    I have challenges keeping them looking good at the Garden centre I thought it was its intolerance to Fluoride 😬
    It’s frustrating when other staff over water the plants 😖
    I allow them to dry out between watering.

    Could you tell us what type of soil, fertilizer and watering techniques work best? For example, could you use one of those bulb things that waters the roots or should you just pour water on top of the soil?

    • @GoodGrowing
      @GoodGrowing  3 года назад +2

      I personally just water the top of the soil. The soil is basic potting medium with a bit of extra perlite. As for fertiliser I talk about that in the video but I used to use Miracle Grow all purpose but now use Liquid Gold Leaf

    • @GoodGrowing

      Typically plants prefer room temp/lukewarm water as it is more gentile on their roots. Cold water may shock them. Could you pour some distilled water out and let it get to room temp before watering?

    Is there a way to “purify” the water I give my spider plant. He’s got a dozen or so babies but the comment about water makes me nervous and I wanna propagate more :(

    • @GoodGrowing
      @GoodGrowing  4 года назад

      I propagate my spider plant babies in normal tap water... which might not be the best thing, but I haven't had any issues with them not growing roots. I'd say if your plant has been growing fine up until now, don't worry about it too much. But if you really did want to purify your water, you could get some sort of filtration system? Not totally sure what the best way to go about that is though. Best of luck!
