Instead of asking “why does my daughter want expensive skincare as a child”, I think the mother need to ask herself “why does my 9 year old have a smartphone with TikTok installed”. I honestly believe that the parents are the ones to blame for this. Kids are reflections of their parents, and if the mother’s first reaction is to film her discontent, I’m not surprised that the kid is online all day long. I don’t know the woman personally, of course, but I think that this is what’s happening.

Tbh I think that from 1996-2010 normal kids were born and then from 2012 to now these typa kids are being born because still in any of the years I mentioned before social media wasn't as developed when they were toddlers, Instead in 2016, when 2012 kids were toddlers, they had much more access, other kids like the ones that were 6,7,8,9,10 stil weren't that fucked in the head, bcuz ppl didn't trust yt and everything that much before at least 2012 or 2013, at least we're I live, I'm from '99, and let's say after like 2010 kids that are still mostly normal shit started going down, I have a cousin that was born in 2014, basically an era when social media was developed enough and then almost as we now know it when he was just 2 years old, instead kids born between late y2ks (2006-2010) still didn't have every single social media app as developed when they were still growing up, instead from 2012 to now it's actually a norm kids have ipads, I have a sister born in 2010 and she had a tablet but no access to the internet, also most of us early Gen Z's have many core memories and traumas from what we used to call "the weird side of RUclips", those creepy ass Videos that you didn't find but they would find you, and then you would go down a rabbit hole of weird creepy videos with ppl telling stories of what supposedly they meant, at least as a 24 year old I still remember a few of those videos, they're still somehow creepy. But my sister didn't have as much access to the internet until 2019, and didn't have any apps like tiktok or anything or even watched much RUclips, tbh she's a very normal 13 year old and that makes me happy, as somehow it's not the same for 10 year olds and below, at least here where I live, because kids born from 2014 to 2019 are literal iPad kids and I've seen almost none that don't have a phone, tablet or watch RUclips, Netflix or any streaming service without supervision, because milenials aren't really interested in parenting them correctly, my lil cousin says weird shit and words he doesn't even know the meaning off, I don't know what he watches but I remember his older sister found him watching gore and also with semi porn games on his tablet, so that's how most born from 2012-2020 are turning out, the fact that still 2006-2010 were some of the last kids with a normal childhood and who would actually touch some grass instead of rotting in the couch with an iPad full of Saliva and cheeto dust really surprises me, I remember my sister telling me at least when she was 9 on 2019 that she saw kids like 5 watching weird things on dirty phones and it freaked her out because they shouldn't be doing that, I mean, at least she's a sane human being, and I'm really glad about it because some of the kids I've met that are like 10 years old or less are insufferable sometimes, they just speak in weird slang and most parents don't even know what content they even consume on a daily basis, it's their iPad or they cry, and obviously most have the atention span of a goldfish. The stories that my aunt tells from my lil cousins school, (they're gonna be 4th graders now), are just about them talking about the trending goofy ass game, basically they all watch the same things somehow, the same brain rot videos, it's disturbing that 2008-2011 was when the last possible normal kids were born, as there wasn't that much access to the internet but from 2012-2023 it has become a source that ppl trust a lot now, mostly kids born in like 2019, which are well, 20 years younger than me, and 9 younger than my sister, show the change from how we were raised, I had some access to RUclips from a pc, and she from a tablet but we wouldn't watch much, there wasn't that much content, I mean one time I accidentally clicked that "I feel fantastic" video, it still gives me chills and she remembers it too, but I mean, my childhood and her childhood were the most sane one and I think no alpha kid will grow up with a childhood like the one we had, I really can't imagine the childhood of 2019 kids, who grew up watching cocomelon and skibidi toilet, also there's many brain rot ads and videos, but that's another issue, as some ppl just do videos that are clearly made for kids, with bright and overly exaggerated faces on the thumbnails that could only attract little kids, the issue of children's content has always been there, and how RUclips kids doesn't provide any good content for that category That is "12+" year olds that isn't vlogs and brain rot videos, and how youtubers make the trashiest content but make adult jokes, smoke or drink something alcoholic to claim it's not children's content, when it clearly is, adults dressing up as children characters and more shit that's genuinely disturbing, I mean you're getting back money from that, but you know what you ain't getting back? Your dignity. Sorry for the whole paragraph I wrote, I just kinda wanted to rant as I was born in the early y2k and have a sister from late 2010, and I feel that 2011 was when the most normal kids were raised because I don't see any kid that grew up without unrestricted access to the internet since 2014...

My parents limited my time on the internet and made sure I didn't go interacting with weirdos. Now people shove a phone in these kids faces and then want to shame them on the internet. Its really just telling on themselves.

in my opinion, its really the parents’ fault. its on them to sit down with their child and talk about how much money they have, manage their social media usage, and know their childrens’ interests before getting unreasonably upset when they see their wishlist. majority of these children arent even expecting more than 1-5 items on the list depending on the price, and if they’re honestly expecting the whole list, again, thats on their upbringing. stop blaming children for their parents’ errors.

Exactly! I feel so bad for these kids, I didn't grow up on social media or watching influencers so I never had any makeup-
And I'm really happy with how I'm turning out! ( As a 14 yr old), now that I do have TikTok I look for stuff that fits my interests, aka animal videos and shows I watch; and I don't let big influencers affect my lifestyle.
But that's only because I'm mature enough to do that and because I grew up building my own experiences first and finding things *I* genuinely liked. A lot of kids don't get to have that now, so it's turned out like this, and it makes me so sad....

ASAP!!!! My sister is 13 and she doesn't want any of that shit, I'm 24 gonna be 25 this November. Really pisses me off feeling that we were raised in a way no one will be raised anymore... Get Yo fucking 9 year old off tiktok and RUclips shorts, it's not the kids fault, it's the parents fault, them watching brain rot ass content on social media wasn't a problem back when my sister was born, ppl didn't trust the internet that much, but now there's a lot of trust put into what RUclips and tiktok show, and tbh, I've seen my 9 year cousin watch the most brain rotting things ever, you can see the difference between me and my sister, I'm 11 years older than her, but stil she's not as brain damaged because we didn't have that access kids born from 2012-2019 have now, let's remember that the older one from that age groups I mentioned is 10, and they're insufferable sometimes, they found my little cousin, who's gonna be 10 this year, watching horror RUclips videos with gore, and having porn-like games installed on a tablet, he has had unrestricted internet access since I have memory, I remember going on a date and my mom had to go pick up some things to a place so my sister, who was 6, stayed at the house of my aunt, when I got there to say hi (the guy who I went out with was an asshole so I left as quick as I could), she told me she had just watched a gore peppa pig video on our aunts phone, and our little cousin was watching it absolutely hipnotized like not even realizing that he was watching a thing with gore, it disturbed me so bad to see how my aunt didn't even wonder about it and just switched the video and let my cousin keep watching without checking on him. Tbh milenials would complain about Gen Z but then would raise their Gen Aloha kids like shit.

I hope these parents take accountability and ask themselves “why is my child asking for these things instead of toys?”
Your kid isn’t going to act like a kid when they are on social media. We need to preserve our children’s innocence and social media crushes that for them.
Edit: I think it’s really sad that there are people in the replies saying that children who are 10 and up shouldn’t be playing with toys.
If you are a 10 year old that doesn’t want to play anymore then you are playing too much video games or you have access to the internet.
I stopped playing with physical toys when I was 13 almost 14, no internet and limited access to video games.
I’m an adult now and know that I shouldn’t have had the internet till I was 15, you are supposed to live care free as a child, not worrying about the internet as a kid.

When my sister was ten years old, and I was 12 years old and had just bought my first geode from a shop at Pike’s Place Market (in the PNW), the same Christmas, she rather uncharacteristically wanted a box of geodes that she could break open with a hammer. To be able to see the amethyst crystals inside. She wasn’t a handy kid with an interest in geology, I think she saw me buy an amethyst decoration for my desk and wanted to emulate the same decor item that I had because I was the cool older sister. After she got the box set for Christmas, the hammer smashing was actually a fun activity we got to do together on a cold January day outside.
But when I think of social media driven Christmas lists, we also used to subscribe to American Girl doll collectors and naturally started asking for those even though my mom was shocked at the prices. However, most of our RUclips subscriptions were monitored by our parents, and we generally only followed people who made videos for kids. We’d have mandatory guided conversations at the dinner table with our parents about the content creators and we even learned how to categorize them (whether their channel was to sell toys, a “Let’s Play” channel, or a family vlog channel with an emphasis on kids lifestyle). We weren’t allowed to watch channels that we couldn’t describe their purpose. If we were caught watching a toy review channel and we couldn’t explain mass marketing terms, we weren’t allowed to watch.
That didn’t stop us from clicking on videos that had nothing to do with our subscriptions; I was introduced to The Hunger Games at the tender age of ten through the trailer for the movie which went viral. Naturally I had to read every book before the movie came out and excitedly comb through all available marketing material I could find, though my mom was leery at first about me reading a dystopian book about a teenager forced to kill other kids.
Another caveat of being such a reader was thinking I was mature enough for all kinds of books I probably shouldn’t have been reading at the time. After The Hunger Games came the Twilight series when I was 11. This bad romance gateway drug was how I ended up slipping Fifty Shades of Grey into the Barnes and Noble basket when I was 12, assuming it’d be no more steamier than Twilight, since it was next to the book in the store. When my dad discovered the book I purchased that my mom didn’t catch, the book was taken away from me and while I think I was allowed Twilight because it contained werewolves and vampires, Fifty Shades of Grey was a hard no, and we still have a good laugh about how we ended up there to this day 😂

Last summer I was going through an album with my grandma and I found my mom and uncle’s Christmas lists. Mind you this was probably early ’80, Poland under martial law, but you could see all the things a child would want : dog, cat, ski boots, bike… and nuts, apparently! Like that was a luxury for them at the time. This is crazy to me how this is only maybe two/ three generations apart!!

bro, getting pets where I live is more pricey than getting skincare products so that's not too crazy. It just shows that a lot of kids in general don't know the value of money. I wanted science lab equipment (like microscopes and tesla coils), electric guitar sets, horror videogames, etc. as a kid which was unreasonable for my family who's mildly poor, then I grew older and wanted the newest phones, an iPad, a laptop, good quality headsets etc. when I was a preteen, the only difference is the kind of products gen alpha are asking for, they're still unreasonably pricey and they can't guarantee that they'll still be into those brands 5 years down the line (like how some little kids back in the day would forget that they have to take care of the pets they asked for christmas), it's not too different, really.

What I got for the holidays when I was 9 I think was the Kirsten nightgown from my aunts and some books and I think maybe a Webkinz from my parents if I’m remembering correctly with my old ass brain, and candy, my parents always did the fun old fashioned candy, and I think 9 was around when my dad started this weird tradition of giving me kippered herring in my stocking because me and him were the only ones who liked it!

Just got this video recommended to me, and I've actually noticed this a lot lately. Kids now are so absorbed in social media, and it's really weird to me how they dress/act so grown. When I was a kid, I wanted Barbie dolls and other toys and playsets, and even now as a teenager, I just want plushies, art supplies, books, and like crafty stuff (i still like to collect little dolls even at my age lol). I feel like the kids who find more joy in hobbies than social media actually get more fulfillment from Xmas because they can ask for things that they would use more often if that makes any sense

My friend and I went up to her, asked her how old she was (SHE WAS 7) and then said that you shouldn't use testers on your face 'cause it is very bad for your skin... THAT GIRL DIDN'T CARE!!! She ran to her mom to make us think she regrets it but 2mins later she was back at doing a full-face. These kids are out of control.

Same here!!! I remember going to a sleepover around 2008 and being so jealous of the Wii my friend had, so I really wanted a Wii and Mario Kart for Christmas 😂. My millennial parents struggled so hard with the recession that year, and I think ultimately it was my grandparents who gifted me a Wii for Christmas since my parents kept scolding me on how expensive it was.
The irony is that as a child, I feel like it was the most disappointing feeling in the world being gifted clothing from grandma, or skincare and body lotions from your aunt. Now, it's apparently the new exciting norm??? Some of these luxury brands cost more than what my *entire* yearly Christmas haul would've cost my parents and relatives combined. 10 year olds asking for $150 gift cards and $250 Uggs?!?! Like girl, bye.

    • @worstusernameintheworld9871
      @worstusernameintheworld9871 11 месяцев назад

@@Namiosoexactly, the only thing that's disappointing is expecting to get the most expensive brands. Then again, kids don't know the value of money. I wanted phone controlled robots, the newest phones, and an electric guitar complete with an amp when I was a kid even though my family was poor, it's no different back in the day and it's the parents who have to teach their kids that expensive doesn't always equate to "better".
additional note: I also had acne since I was 11 so a preteen wanting skincare products to reduce it is completely understandable! They just need to know that not all brands are safe for preteen skin and they can find cheaper alternatives that are just as useful. Don't shame the kid for wanting to take care of themselves, shame the parents who don't restrict their internet access and ignore their kid when they want to be excessive consumerists.

As a 13 year old (2010) with acne and very oily skin, my mother introduced me to skincare at 11 because I was extremely insecure of my skin. Especially since I was bullied and made fun of in school a lot. It was just face wash, face scrub and salicylic acid for the acne. Overtime it got better when I turned 13 and now the only skin care materials I have is just a facial cleanser, sheet masks and a dew toner I stole from my older sister (She bought it and never EVER used it.
