Man that takes me back. I bought mine brand new in 86. I had never ridden a motorcycle before. I loved that bike so much. I wish I still had it. I ride a vtx1300 now but I would still ride the 454 if I could find a good one. Not that I would give up the 1300!
I always ride that bike hard., normally shift 8 to 11k. Shift fast. You can shift slow but to hit that power you need to rev it up. Great bike! Sport bike engine!
toastopia1 I just bought one 1987 454 ltd $350 cleaned the carbs and it fired right up with just a bump of the starter button only 12,000 miles on it. Now I got a whining noise on deceleration in all gears after letting a friend drive it I'm thinking he was shifting without the clutch. Any ideas with the noise would be appreciated too, because it's only on deceleration if it was a bearing it would do it all the time. I'm kind of stumped and don't want to tear into it until winter.
I just mounted a 1987 3.6 gallon Vulcan 750 tank on my 454. Just make a couple of brackets, drill one hole, and trim one inch off the front seat plastic and re-staple the leather. #EasyPeezy

One of the easiest to ride and they have a great center of gravity.
Have you done anything to the exhaust? I'm thinking about drilling out the rivets and pulling the baffling out of mine
i havent!, but i have exhaust leeks that make it loud!, i have a friend who drilled out his exhaust and it sounds the same!

the pipes are stock! they just have holes in them! i sold the bike years ago and i should have kept it! you can find them around! major sleeper!
