Thanks for the video! My 08 Scion Xb had a low idle and would stall. Taking the throttle body apart and cleaning it fixed the problem and it is running like a dream now. 👍🏻
Great video. Thanks for taking the time to make this and upload it. Same problem on a 09 xb. Terrible idle and would stall. This video was the ONLY useful video I could find. Watched several others before this but they were not helpful. Thanks 🤙🏻🤙🏻
My Scion TC had a bad idle.. I sprayed the mass airflow sensor with maf cleaner and it idles great now. two screws and it pops out.. very simple to clean. Buy a can of maf sensor cleaner and spray your sensor, if it doesnt idle better, then go ahead and clean you throttle body.
@@lizard878 On my 06, its a small square box on top of the airbox lid. Right near the clamp at the lid and the rubber boot. There are 2 small phillips head screws. You dont need to unplug it.. Take them out and lift the electronic part out but dont touch it at all. Just spray it with the right cleaner a couple times, it dries quick then put it back together. I think I'll do mine again since you reminded me.

Thanks for the comment brother but sorry there's not one particular thing I can tell you to Solve your issue. You might need a mechanic at this point Because They are so many probable causes we don't know where to start. If I have to guess you're either getting lack of air flow or lack of fuel. Probable causes could be air filter, throttle body, catalytic converter, fuel pressure Regulator, fuel injectors, Fuel pump, Clogged muffler, PCV valve, engine timing, etc. Good luck brotha. 86 GOT YO FIX
One note, it's probably a good idea to spray and clean the throttle body away from the engine compartment. I'm sure it's not too damaging but it's probably a good practice. Plus it allows you to use the sun to dry stuff off quicker.
Awesome video. Going to try this before I put this fuel pump in for giggles. Also, does anyone notice the face at 5:46 on the dust to the left of throttle body? Haha
You didnt disconnect the battery first thats why you have pressure of the water pump still on,i did my cleaning too and it always say to disconnect battery before taking off the mass airflow connect or other electrical
Thanks for a great video. I am very new at this so please help. I need to know where the MAF is located and how to clean it. Do you have any videos of this?
If you know where the air filter Box is located it is the 1st sensor on the air duct. It has one plug and two screws very easy to take out very easy to clean with special mass air flow sensor spray at your local parts store hopefully that helps or there's plenty of videos about mass airflow sensors
I've been told if you take out the electronic throttle body out you have to use a scanner to relearn throttle body position otherwise your car will stall. Any problem of that nature to the ones who took it out ??
That's an excellent question my friend you do not have to take out the electronic throttle body if you are swapping throttle bodies most of the time they automatically will relearn. A scanner is not really needed to relearn cars have a factory relearn sequence just look it up for your car
The throttle position sensor might need recalibration if its removed and reinstalled. It's attached separately to the throttle body on some cars. On the Scions it's built into the throttle body, so you don't need to worry about it.
I just cleaned mine yesterday maf sensor and throttle body on 08 scion xb same as the video installed everything back turned engine and a popping sound with some smoke came out and now my car wont stay on unless i keep the gas pedal i need help please!!
Sorry to hear you're having this issue. Hopefully you did not get the electronics of the throttle body submerged in water. Maybe you can try throttle body relearn sequence for the Scion or try to disconnect your battery. To me it sounds like your throttle body is out of sequence and needs to be relearned
what YEAR is this Xb...mine is a 2006 ...it looks backwards... my heatshield is in the back.. When I clean Camera parts... I actually pour Naptha into my sonic cleaner. Naptha works great. Make sure anything with paint is not placed in there, because the paint will come right off.
Badass man I dig the video sure did help alot. Question though I got the exact same scion so maybe you can tell me why when I drive and press on the gas pedal my scion actually slows down to like 10 mph. Then itll kick back up randomly. Hitting red lights is a nightmare for me tbh. Please help
That's a great question and the answer is I don't know I'm pretty sure it's a vacuum hose. It probably goes to the EGR or somewhere on the intake plenum
Interested in switching out my 2012 xB stock throttle body for a larger aftermarket one for hopefully more gains. Any suggestions as to what brand and or size?
great question brother. I assume the gains your looking for is horsepower ? i dont recommend a larger throttle body. the only gains if any that you will see/ feel is maybe a bit quicker acceleration but you will start to lose some M.P.G. there is no one mod. to do on this car for instant GAINS. either dive all in or leave it stock. the money to dive all in will equal the amount of a faster, better car like a 2006 mustang. hopefully this answers your question and save money but people do whatever they want.
@@supersyx yes more HP Is what I was hoping for so it seem then that this particular mod would be a waste of time from your experience. I already have cold air intake, exhaust, & a header. @@TroyVoid What I am trying to say is all The Mods you have added so far only increase horseower by very little. Great question but air over time, just look at your air filter. Mostly why throttle bodies get dirty because engines recirculate oil to the top of the motor thru the pcv valve and exhaust fumes thru the egr valve which contains oil. The oil mist find its way to the throttle body butterfly valve and dirty everything up over time . Thanks for the great comment.
