Daan892 Scholars do study. Here in India we have very intensive course.

    • @freeslave7503
      @freeslave7503 9 лет назад +31

Daan892 Yes, It takes about 15-20 years to become a scholar of Islam. Children start with memorization of Quran. After that they start with Arabic grammar then classical Arabic. and study lot of other things of Arabic language. While studying Arabic they also learn lot of thing about Islam parallely. After mastering Arabic language they again start studying Quran and Hadith in Arabic and in their own language (here in India mostly Urdu). They also study many other fields like fiqh, logic, science of hadith, history, tradition and many more. And I think same goes for most parts of world.
So scholar do have knowledge but people just don't ask them. There is a gap between scholars and common man nowadays.
Btw there are many scholars in my own family.

+Daan892 The best biography of Muhammud ever written was written by a man from India. The sealed nectar. He won an award from Saudi Arabia. An Amazing scholar.
Ibn Kathir historically has the best Tafsir. Islam is not about race/ethnicity since no one holds superiority or is 'God's chosen people'. Knowledge and wisdom comes from all walks of life in all countries when it comes to scholars in Islam. Read Muhammud's last sermon.

It felt like she was trying to open other people's minds, and show non-Muslim's that they are as mis-guided as some radical Muslims. They are accompanied by many other people of many other races/religions. To simply suppress an idea or a religion based on the thought every human thinks the same or then honestly most religious redirect would dictate the hole image of everyone that fallows. In retrospect chajinji it isnt your faith that makes you beautiful but what you obtain from it. Peace for people is possible as long as we all know we are all people and are treated as such tell that happens bad things will always happen. this very same reasoning is why i have always seen religion as a hindrance. Islam isn’t forcing you to believe read chapter 2.256. If Islam teaches Muslims to just kill the disbelievers, I guess the world would be in trouble. We’re 23% of the humanities, 1.7 billion strong and growing every minutes of the day. Jesus prophesied the coming of Muhammad but the early Jews in that area denied him just like they denied Jesus son of Mary. He said he who comes after me will glorify me. We’re the only faith group in the world who believe in his miracle birth without father through Virgin Mary. He was the word of God. Performed all the miracles like giving life to the dead by the permission of his master. Cured those born blind and with leper’s. He’s coming back not with New Testament but following the religion of Islam like every prophet did.

    • @coldmow

+bltcrunchy I hope that "YES!" you shouted wasn't for the sense of relief of not having to bother with the Quran anymore.
Cuz you still do. The Quran says about the Prophet pbuh: "and we have sent you only but as a mercy to the whole world"
The whole world, meaning even you have to adopt the good manners and behavior of the Prophet and his book. No it doesn't mean you should become Arab now
Yes there are things that nobody really knows, but you still have an obligation (or it's best to) to read this supernatural book. You are human. Here are some good reasons to read from it:
      - One fifth, now coming close to one fourth of the human race believes it's from the one that is free of all, perfect, unlimited, omnipotent, omniscient and more real than anything we can 'just' see: The Almighty, nonphysically present in every atom at every single point in time.
      - It came to CONFIRM the old scriptures and old practices of the people of old. From Cherokee Indian elders to southern African tribes to Australian aboriginals, all confirmed this. Mystery befits Him, because you need to earn it to receive knowledge.
      - Linguistically it's no less than a masterpiece of the highest order, with every single word present with even it's own individual purpose. Forget words, even the single letters themselves. Ordered in a fashion that is Godlike. No human would be able to make something close to it and maintain an alibi with all the people of a whole country to be able to say "I got it from our maker".
Read the Quran with your own doubts whether it can really be from your own description of your God, and do some research in what Muslims say about those so called hate verses. CUZ THERE ARE NONE for God's sake.

So glad to learn that the Qur'an, Allah's perfect description of himself, is only truly understandable to him (by Lesley's account, time: 7:12, "...Only god knows the true meaning..."). Almost makes one wonder why Allah allowed it to be written as, according to Lesley's account, it does not enlighten anyone. Nonetheless, it is easily used for divisive purposes. This is somewhat less than one would hope from a perfect document as it makes it seem only perfect for Allah, and decidedly imperfect for mere men.

I love Lesley Hazleton's book on the Shia Sunni conflict, and I respect her work, but she made a mistake here.
At 7:55 She says "Not a swelling breast or high bosom in sight"
The Quran does mention big breasts.
"And full-breasted [companions] of equal age" (78:33)
Kawa`ib Atrab, meaning, wide-eyed maidens with fully developed breasts.
Ibn `Abbas, Mujahid and others have said كَواعِبَ (Kawa`ib), "This means round breasts. They meant by this that the breasts of these girls will be fully rounded and not sagging, because they will be virgins, equal in age. This means that they will only have one age.''
Source for definition of Kawaib Atrab: Lanes Lexicon, page 2616

It's a pity she chose the 72 virgin story, which was well debunked, and it wasn't even from the Quran, it was from a Hadith. I wish she talked about treatment of homosexuals, women, slavery, apostacy, etc and tried to defend the quran, the reason she didn't mention any of those was that a proper reading of the text does not go well with modern secular morality.

    • @freemind6981

Actually apostasy is nor mentioned in the Qur'an, neither is any punishment for homosexuals, women's rights are equal in the Qur'an as well. Stoning homosexuals and burning witches are mentioned in the bible, also inequality is huge in the bible, I believe a women is not allowed to talk in church... Her talk was about the Qur'an, not the hadiths which I as a Muslim completely reject as its more similar to the bible and seems barbaric, not to mention write 300 years after the prophet. I've read the Qur'an multiple times now and it has benefited me very well. Also in the Qur'an anyone can get to heaven, Jews, Christians etc, and people who make a statement are not guaranteed it either, we are told not to judge if we sincerely are believers as God is the best to judge

Yeah I can never imagine reading the Quran with popcorn or in a relaxed setting. It’s like a roller coaster of emotions and stories. At times I feel read by God…guilty of being not a good steward of the planet or Gods creations and other times I feel relief because by the Qurans definition I’m a good person who is deserving of Gods Mercy. But mostly I’m in awe of Gods description of how God creates, all that God has created, the purpose of life and the detailed history of human beings. It’s interesting when I was a kid being taught to memorize verses but not to understand what I was memorizing. I was taught to be afraid of God, to fear what the Quran said which is to fear Gods words, and well it started a rocky anxious depressing relationship with God which created an unbalanced life for me. But when I got older, wiser and my life was a mess, I decided to read the Quran in translation. And instead of fear, I found peace and instead of depression I found relief and joy. I learned that everything that I fought for, advocated for and protested for was already detailed in the Quran as a noble and honorable right path to take. It blew me away because I had fought with fellow Muslims and non Muslims who all stood against my activism and my desire to fight in all forums that I could for this planet, for the beings who called it home and all of the innocent people who were victims of greed, racism, inequitable institutions that oppressed them and all forms of oppression and abuse. I now realize I was dealing with fundamentally inflexible minds and I am one of the rare people who have flexible minds.

ONE thing I can actually agree with her about is that "ONLY GOD" knows the real intended messages in the scriptures....that being said, people should NOT take the book at face value as people perceive things differently and under no circumstances should people even try and translate it for that matter, herself include as she clearly stated herself that only God knows the real message.

+Steve God knows everything. HE knows you better than you know yourself. Not everything is concealed in the Quran. GOD gave you logic to find things out and call it truth. How is it a bad thing to use logic to find things out for yourself instead of listening to everything that is not?
Too hard a task for people who aren't accustomed to logic?
      Don't be scared, it's easy.

+Carole Richard I think you're trying the defensive card here. You have to get it through your head that you are a human as well and that you also have a soul which can be corrupted with perversions from your society. It's your own responsibility to read the Quran and try to understand it as best as you can, even the supposed violent verses. Ask yourself if any of those verses are fair or not, once you've understood the details. Spoiler: You won't even find one verse that is unjust, to your own standards even. Not even one.
That is if you read the Quran with doubt in your heart instead of a suspicion about your Almighty Maker.

    Quran
Quran (2:191-193) - "And kill them wherever you find them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out. And Al-Fitnah [disbelief or unrest] is worse than killing... but if they desist, then lo! Allah is forgiving and merciful. And fight them until there is no more Fitnah [disbelief and worshipping of others along with Allah] and worship is for Allah alone. But if they cease, let there be no transgression except against Az-Zalimun(the polytheists, and wrong-doers, etc.)" (Translation is from the Noble Quran) The verse prior to this (190) refers to "fighting for the cause of Allah those who fight you" leading some to claim that the entire passage refers to a defensive war in which Muslims are defending their homes and families. The historical context of this passage is not defensive warfare, however, since Muhammad and his Muslims had just relocated to Medina and were not under attack by their Meccan adversaries. In fact, the verses urge offensive warfare, in that Muslims are to drive Meccans out of their own city (which they later did). Verse 190 thus means to fight those who offer resistance to Allah's rule (ie. Muslim conquest). The use of the word "persecution" by some Muslim translators is disingenuous - the actual Arabic words for persecution (idtihad) - and oppression are not used instead of fitna. Fitna can mean disbelief, or the disorder that results from unbelief or temptation. A strict translation is 'sedition,' meaning rebellion against authority (the authority being Allah). This is certainly what is meant in this context since the violence is explicitly commissioned "until religion is for Allah" - ie. unbelievers desist in their unbelief. [Editor's note: these notes have been modified slightly after a critic misinterpreted our language. Verse 193 plainly says that 'fighting' is sanctioned even if the fitna 'ceases'. This is about religious order, not real persecution.] (See also: Response to Apologists)
Quran (2:244) - "Then fight in the cause of Allah, and know that Allah Heareth and knoweth all things." (See also: Response to Apologists)
Quran (2:216) - "Fighting is prescribed for you, and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knoweth, and ye know not." Not only does this verse establish that violence can be virtuous, but it also contradicts the myth that fighting is intended only in self-defense, since the audience was obviously not under attack at the time. From the Hadith, we know that this verse was narrated at a time that Muhammad was actually trying to motivate his people into raiding merchant caravans for loot. (See also: Response to Apologists)
Quran (3:56) - "As to those who reject faith, I will punish them with terrible agony in this world and in the Hereafter, nor will they have anyone to help." (See also: Response to Apologists)
Quran (3:151) - "Soon shall We cast terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers, for that they joined companions with Allah, for which He had sent no authority". This speaks directly of polytheists, yet it also includes Christians, since they believe in the Trinity (ie. what Muhammad incorrectly believed to be 'joining companions to Allah'). (See also: Response to Apologists)
Quran (4:74) - "Let those fight in the way of Allah who sell the life of this world for the other. Whoso fighteth in the way of Allah, be he slain or be he victorious, on him We shall bestow a vast reward." The martyrs of Islam are unlike the early Christians, who were led meekly to the slaughter. These Muslims are killed in battle as they attempt to inflict death and destruction for the cause of Allah. This is the theological basis for today's suicide bombers. (See also: Response to Apologists)
Quran (4:76) - "Those who believe fight in the cause of Allah…"
Quran (4:89) - "They but wish that ye should reject Faith, as they do, and thus be on the same footing (as they): But take not friends from their ranks until they flee in the way of Allah (From what is forbidden). But if they turn renegades, seize them and slay them wherever ye find them; and (in any case) take no friends or helpers from their ranks." (See also: Response to Apologists)
Quran (4:95) - "Not equal are those of the believers who sit (at home), except those who are disabled (by injury or are blind or lame, etc.), and those who strive hard and fight in the Cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives. Allah has preferred in grades those who strive hard and fight with their wealth and their lives above those who sit (at home).Unto each, Allah has promised good (Paradise), but Allah has preferred those who strive hard and fight, above those who sit (at home) by a huge reward " This passage criticizes "peaceful" Muslims who do not join in the violence, letting them know that they are less worthy in Allah's eyes. It also demolishes the modern myth that "Jihad" doesn't mean holy war in the Quran, but rather a spiritual struggle. Not only is this Arabic word (mujahiduna) used in this passage, but it is clearly not referring to anything spiritual, since the physically disabled are given exemption. (The Hadith reveals the context of the passage to be in response to a blind man's protest that he is unable to engage in Jihad, which would not make sense if it meant an internal struggle). (See also: Response to Apologists)
Quran (4:101) - "And when you (Muslims) travel in the land, there is no sin on you if you shorten your Salat (prayer) if you fear that the disbelievers may attack you, verily, the disbelievers are ever unto you open enemies." Mere disbelief makes one an "open" enemy of Muslims.

    Transliteration:
( 37 ) Indeed in that is a reminder for whoever has a heart or who listens while he is present [in mind].
( 38 ) And We did certainly create the heavens and earth and what is between them in six days, and there touched Us no weariness.
( 39 ) So be patient, [O Muhammad], over what they say and exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting,
( 40 ) And [in part] of the night exalt Him and after prostration.
( 41 ) And listen on the Day when the Caller will call out from a place that is near -
( 42 ) The Day they will hear the blast [of the Horn] in truth. That is the Day of Emergence [from the graves].
( 43 ) Indeed, it is We who give life and cause death, and to Us is the destination
( 44 ) On the Day the earth breaks away from them [and they emerge] rapidly; that is a gathering easy for Us.
( 45 ) We are most knowing of what they say, and you are not over them a tyrant. But remind by the Qur'an whoever fears My threat.

Islam gave rights to women, freed slaves, advised people to take care of poor and less fortunate. Please read the whole Quran and do not quote a sentences without context. Or better yet read Quran and Bible side by side to see what does Bible say about women, slavery, homosexuality, etc. and compare that to Quran. If that's to much work then watch some videos of Ahmed Deedat.

@Medifro I didn't assume it only uses one style; that it DOESN'T was part of my point (which either went right over your head or to which you paid little attention). The method in deciding what is figurative and what is literal varies according to what the reader WANTS the text to say. This speaker wanted it to be nice and Westerner-friendly.

This woman is the real alive model of the idea 'you do not have to be a muslim to understand the Quran properly'. "But, only pure minded people can comprehend it"

“Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger as saying: Do not greet the Jews and the Christians before they greet you and when you meet any one of them on the roads force him to go to the narrowest part of it.”
