  • HYDRANGEAS FOR FREE // HOW TO DIVIDE HYDRANGEAS
    In todays video I am going to show you how to get free HYDRANGEAS. There is no better place to find a hydrangea than in your own Garden. I am going to show you how to divide your hydrangea and get a nice size specimen.
    The best time to divide a hydrangea in late winter early spring or in the fall time. I am going to show you how I divide my hydrangeas and then transplant them for success in the garden. The first year after you divide your hydrangea you may or may not get blooms this season. After the hydrangea blooms for the season then go in prune it back and shape the hydrangea to your liking.

    When I moved to this house, I received a little Pink Hydrangea as a present from a cousin.
    I really enjoyed planting my first hydrangea in front of the house, but to my sorprise, I woke up the next day with no Flowers on it because Deers decided to enjoy their Hydrangea Salad 😨 I was really impressed because I read a lot of info before planting and it said deers didn’t like them, I moved it to a big terracotta pot and it is just beginning to wake up from it’s dormancy.
    I suspect they must be 3 plants 🤔

      Deer love hydrangeas from everything I have heard! I don't have deer in my neighborhood and when they do come around it is in the winter for some reason!! If its three I might divide them especially if you plan on keeping them in containers!! I bet they are pretty!!!

    Thank you for the informative and concise tutorials about Hydrangea. I bought a Strawberry Vanilla Hydrangea tree two weeks ago and check it hourly. I never planted anything, and I'm not trying to kill the tree. PS. I almost fainted when you divided the plant. 😅 Your videos are both amusing and relieve my anxiety. God bless you! I'm in zone 7b and lost one bloom and sleep last week. 😂🙏

    Hi….when is the best time of year to divide the plant? I have a huge hydrangea that I inherited when I purchased my home last year and yes, it’s massive. Think it’s the Annabelle version. TIA

    • @GardenQueen
      @GardenQueen  3 года назад +4

      Hi Noreen! The best time to divide tryout hydrangea would be in the fall or early spring! Depending on how big you can get a tone of plants! I would wait until fall ! Thanks for watching!!

  • @jocelynthompson4154
    @jocelynthompson4154 3 года назад +2

    Quick question. I just purchased a little time in a 4.5 inch quart pot. They are small but I do want to put them in big containers. Is 15 inches to big? Should I combine the two small plants and make one big one ??

    • @GardenQueen
      @GardenQueen  3 года назад +1

      I would go with a smaller pot and maybe place it on a table! They grow pretty big and quick! Other wise you will end up trying to spit them later!.
      Now if you choose to pot them up together for this season! You can. Make sure to split them at the end of the season of fall!

    We have a 50+ year old hydrangea, that my husbands grandmother planted. We want to split it, and also transplant it somewhere else. Do you think it would survive us moving it?

    • @GardenQueen
      @GardenQueen  3 года назад +1

      Why kind of hydrangea for the spilt? You can definitely move them but wait until the fall time! 6-8 weeks at the very latest before you first hard freeze for sure!

  • @tanishabafford1020

    I’m wanting to take some of my mother in laws hydrangeas and bring some to my house to grow. As of right now they are in full bloom, is it too late to move them since they are full and huge or can they still be moved?

    • @GardenQueen
      @GardenQueen  3 года назад +1

      You can make it work I would wait!! But if this is a situation where she stays out of town and you are wanting to bring a piece of the plant back with you!! Then what I would do is water the mother plant in really well and before and after you take split the plant. I would do it in the cool of the day!!! I would transplant into the can cut off all of the blooms and then take it home it put it in the shade where it can get morning dun and transplant in your garden in the fall time at least 6 weeks before the first hard frost and use biotone to help your transplant get established I hope this helps. The mother plant may suffer a little from the stress if there is not a natural place for you to make the cut into the root ball of the mother plant. Thanks for watching I hope this helps
