- Here's another Breja ToneWorks DIY Mod - this time we'll go over how to rewire your Strat using 3 mini toggle switches. The end result is a total of 12 pickup/sound combinations.
I really like how straight to the information these are. no guy sitting with his guitar
Yes sir! I've been poring through the tutorials trying to decide which one to adopt/implement in a bunch of guitars I have. THIS IS IT! your narrative, your diagrams are obviously geared for modders who are absolute new wannabe's. I truly appreciate that. Other vids, they treat me as if I already have some basic understanding. Wrong! They point with fat fingers at tiny tiny lugs lined up and say wire goes to this one. Well they're fat fingers are on all 3. Useless. I hope you're still out there somewhere and prospering. Thank you!
You are legend. I finally can fix my '89 Aria Pro II, Jackson Soloist 3 toggle style guitar
I Appreciate You, Wiring Worked Perfectly On My 1982 Strat
I suppose that this could also work in the case of a strat fitted with 3 hot rail humbuckers. In that case it should also be possible to wire a coil split option, but to have that option might require 3 additional toggle switches so that each coil could be split individually - that would be almost too many options to think about!
Hi there every one I just finish this project. And this is a dream come true for me .i Always invision independent switching for each pick-up I saw an old Stratocaster style guitar European made one that had Independent switches that was in the 80s I couldn't find that guitar in particular .and a friend of mine had a super Strat by fender with a Floyd Rose tremolo system and independent switching. but that guitar had only off on switching that means if all switching where down the guitar would not have any signal coming out from the guitar .and later on a friend of mine had a Kramer focus 6000 with independent switching but only 1 volume no tone control. it was an okay guitar bright clear sound .but same problem if the the switches or all off the guitar had no sound coming out of the output .this is so much better. many people like the 5 way or 3 Way switch that is because it's simple to get from one place to another .but you don't have all combinations .the strat can give you much more. Then is what initially made by the Fender Factory. i Modified this diagram I added two humbuckers a neck position and a bridge position split coil both of them independently the tones I'm able to get now are so beautiful i'm so happy and lucky to have such a great functions in my guitar now thank you for posting this it's amazing I think all strat's should have these options again thank you..
I am new to strat wiring, and have been itching to ask: Why two tone knobs? Can this be done with just one tone knob? Thanks for your answer :)
@@Jackofallthetrades to my configuration when you’re on serious switching, you can adjust the tone up and down while the other pick ups will have the tone adjust in a different way, like middle pick up completely open tone while the neck pick up has the tone rolled off giving you beautiful tones
They need one thats like my strats wiring, 2 pushpull pots, one as an on/off switch for neck pickup the other as a reverse phase switch fr the middle pickup. Then an s-1 switch to switch between series and parallel. that gives you a total 17 pickup options, not to mention when you have 2 active pickups with one in reverse phase and the two wired in series, that is the same thing as a humbucker since humbuckers are the same thing as having two coils in series with one of opposite polarity. The s-1 switch will wire them in series and the reverse phase switch will make one of the two active pickups be of opposite polarity. Lol you get more options than a dual humbucker guitar with coil splitting. cause now you can get boh single coil and humbucker tones with all single coils lol. of course i would like a video on it so i can wire ext time (i had a tech do it for me).
Hi, thanks for the video, very informative.
Would it be possible to do something along those lines using only three on/off-toggleswitches and a master series/parallel on/on toggle? For the sake of simplicity and minimal redundancy, and because DP3T-switches seem hard to be hard to find.
So it would go like this:
*Master series/parallel up (Parallel):*
Neck
Neck - Middle (Parallel)
Middle
Middle - Bridge (Parallel)
Bridge
+
Neck - Bridge (Parallel)
Neck - Middle - Bridge (Parallel)
All three off (Parallel, for the sake of continuity and consistency)
*Master series/parallel down (Series):*
Neck
Neck - Middle (Series)
Middle
Middle - Bridge (Series)
Bridge
+
Neck - Bridge (Series)
Neck - Middle - Bridge (Series)
All three off (Series, for the sake of continuity and consistency)
Thanks in advance.
yes upvote!!!
Were you able to build this mod using your master switch? Did you use a master toggle or a push/pull on one of the tone knobs? I don't understand why the third toggle has to be an on-on-on rather than a on-off-on like the other two toggles. It looks to me like the bridge pick up is on all the time. I like your mod if it works and if I can use a Push/pull in place of the master toggle. Thanks for your help.
what if you just have one tone and one volume
I've been scouring the Internet for just that set up, with no success. Have you found out anything since?
email the man he will help you
Thanks for the video and my question is how do you ground it correctly to eliminate humming?
You can also run the pick up wires through a phase switch and take it to another level.
+BABY' DAN BAGSHIT What are you trying to do... build an Atom Bomb? :) Yep - for sure you can add more switches for Phasing.
Yes I did it, also my bridge pickup is a hot rails with a series /split/parallel switch before it hits the phase switch so yeah its basically these 3 switches, 3 push pull knobs for phase and the extra on on on switch that controls the bridge pickup wiring(series/split/parallel)
I will call it the super strat wynberg wiring (SSWW) for short xD
Awesome! Thank you!
Totally awesome!
Sir,
Please answer my doubt about DP3T switch
You can make a video for 2 humbuckers with 1 tone, 1 volume and 2 switches
What are some clever thoughts if you threw in a 5 way switch with this.
Sir,
This is really a wonderful circuit. Previously, I was asking about the contact positions of DP3T switch in three different positions. Cos, I have inquired about this switch everywhere, but I could not get it. I am from Kerala, India.
I'll be thankful, if you could mention some place, from where I can get it.
Thanks & Regards
Try ebay.com that where I got mine
Could you show a coil tapping demo using mini toggle switches(2) for a two humbuckers, single volume & single tone pot. I have an older PRS Santana in which the bridge PU is 10.5 & neck 8.4 which should closer to a single coil when tapped. Thank you.
My 1989 Vester Stage series had this kind of wiring too, it was very annoying and I never understood how to operate them efficiently.
Dear, could you do a video of this piece of gear?
@@rodrigomartins9692 unfortunately I don't have this instrument anymore.
@@Thomogon Thanks anyway! Best regards
Can you wire only single coil this way or does duel coil work as well?
I am unable to get DP3T switch here in India. May I know any other alternative for this ?
Thankyou
order on ebay thats what I had to do!
nice one
Thank you very much for your wonderful circuit, which is having 12 positions.
Please mention the values of both capacitors and potmeters. Is that volume control is log or lin ? please answer.
Caps are subjective to the player. I tend to use .015uF and .022uFsPots are 250K because we're dealing with Single Coil pickupsAll of my pots are Audio Taper.
bingo !!!
Could you try wiring a push pull pot as well
is there an rwrp pickup in the middle ? will it work with 3 similar pups ? without rwrp ?
I've had this switching set-up on my Strat since a couple of years after Dan Armstrongs article in Guitar Player. Now I'm trying to get my head around adding a mid-boost and a TBX after the switches. Is there a single (signal out) wire that could feed the pre-amp after switching? Or am I into a total briar patch in trying this?
between the output of the volume pot and the jack. then your preamp output goes to the jack
can there be a treble bleed on the volume pot?
Could you do this with a hsh?
one more doubt please.
Please mention the contact conditions of contacts A1, A2, A3, B1, B2 and B3, during the positions 1,0 and 2 of DP3T switch of Bridge.
Thank you.
I'm not sure what you're asking here. The bridge is only an on/off the last switch is a 3-way
Isnt the bridge the on on on switch
Did it, twice. Not happening. Maybe some video would help?, idk. These are solders, you aren't plugging it into an outlet, so re-soldering 3 connections to the same mini-toggle pin isn'tworking for me. Do you really do it that way? If so then a video of your technique would be very helpful. I am making a mess of it.
Re the toggle switches-- does it matter which end is on top? "If the pot is inverted"-- that is an important point, can you explain? Does it matter which end is up? If so how do I tell?
What kind of wire do I need, and where do I get it? My local hardware store just sold me something that looks like a heavier gauge.
Idk, did it twice, thing is humming really loud and nothing else. I swapped out pickups when I was 17, no problem. This is not working though.
neat
This may be a silly question, but I’m assuming the first two switches are on/on?
6:11 2 DPDT on-on
Isnt that like the Brian May guitar? Can you send me a diagram cos I would like to wire a strat with as many tone variations as possible this 3 switch system comes close to it. Brian May has 6 mini switches on his guitar.
+Gary Owens email me at BrejaToneWorks@gmail.com
What's the difference of this one from your 9-way switch mod?
His 9-way switch mod works with the standard 5 way switch with added DP3T switching, so this gives specific different combos, where the 9 way actually has 15 different ones but 9 unique ones.
my pick guard came with 3 on/off/ons Idk how to wire it now
Well - how did you want your guitar's controls to work? That's where we need to start. Then we can see if what is on your pickguard will do what you're after.
Hello,
I'm trying to modify my stratocaster.
I'd like to have a 7 sounds strat with 3 mini switches by only puting the pickups on or off without the serie sound, only in parallel. I've wathched your videos on your RUclips channel but none of it corresponded to what I wanted.
I would like to know if it's possible, and how I could achieve that.
I've searched everywhere on the internet, the only page that I've found that talks about this mod is this one :
www.premierguitar.com/articles/The_ABCs_Of_Guitar_Switches
-> When they talk about SPST switches.
Thanks.
(Sorry for bad english I'm french)
Hello, thanks a lot for this information. I failed in this attempt, the 4-way switch on my telecaster worked very well for me, but this circuit has not worked for me, I have already soldered it 2 times, I wrote to your gmail account, I hope to find a solution
