With surge protector type power strip you get what you pay for, some of the really high end models have phone, data and coaxial jacks for added protection. All surge protectors have one thing in common, they require a properly grounded receptacle, in addition to personnel protection from a hot wire shorting to a metal frame appliance the ground acts as a shunt for spikes and surges so if you live in a home built before the mid 1960s, be mindful of this. And even if a three light tester shows correct wiring in a vintage house, there might be a bootleg ground particularly if you brought a flipper home which offers no protection, so if you really want to be on the safe side you might want to first, power down the circuit, remove the cover plate and carefully pull the receptacle out a little bit if necessary, to make sure someone didn't connect the neutral and ground screw with a short jumper or with a pigtail. If this was done and no means of grounding exists then the only option is to rewire the circuit with new romex which might require an electrician.

Whole house surge protection is equipment protection. It's not designed with sensitive electronics in mind. Even with a whole house surge protector you still need surge protection on your sensitive electronics.
