Morten Andersen is the Saints kicker. At this point in his career he was in his 6th season, a 2 time pro bowler, and an all pro. He would go on to kick for 19 more seasons. He played through 3 presidents all 3 of whom would serve 2 terms and he nearly played in every year of those terms. When he entered the NFL I was 17 years old and a senior in high school. When he retired I was 42 and on my 2nd marriage.
I'm not sure, but it's possible the birth of "The Benson Boogie" started in this game with owner Tom Benson dancing when each game winded down towards a NO Saints victory. Fun times back in the day especially when NO Saints fans first, and NFL fans never experienced any Saints teams with a winning record prior to the 1987 season.
You prolly dont care but does someone know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account?? I was dumb lost the login password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
@Santino Zechariah i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im in the hacking process atm. Takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Thank you for adding this video! I'm a Giants fan, and remember feeling down after this game, knowing that the 1987 season was a disaster compared to the championship season the year before. Only the 1999 Denver Broncos have ever had a worse title defense, I think. I actually like the Saints, and was pulling for them to do something special that season. Nine straight wins was not bad, although unfortunately, they got hammered in the Wildcard by a suddenly red hot Vikings team that would take out the 49ers in San Francisco the next weekend. Can't believe the Giants had this many turnovers in this game!
The Rams this past year won five games in a title defense which is worse. and the real Giants were 6 6 in 87 season they were 0 3 with replacement players. Still not a good year but there’s been worse title defenses.
I was 8 watching this with my maw-maw. She was the biggest Saints fan. This has to be the best collection of linebackers to ever be in a game. Rickey- HOF, LT- HOF, Harry= HOF, Pat and Sam should be in the HOF. Pepper was pretty damn good too. Thanks for the upload. I still hate that we went 12-3 and had to play a Wild card game because of the damn 13-2 49ers
Carl Banks was pretty damn good, as well! You're right, this game truly did feature some of the best linebackers in NFL history! I am a Giants fan, and was a kid when this game happened. It was very sobering, and there was no denying after this that something was wrong with those Giants, that they had lost intensity, even if the injuries and strike that season did not help. That Saints team was exciting, and I wanted to see them go far in the postseason. But the Vikings took both the Saints and the 49ers out that season.
Don’t forget about the other Johnson as well. Vaughan Johnson. He was the only player on that Saints team who played and looked the most like a Linebacker.
Rob Franzen, the CBS station where I live (WKBN-TV 27, Youngstown, Ohio) carried Giants vs. Saints on November 22, 1987 at 4pm over the 1pm games carried by CBS that day (Falcons-Vikings; Lions-Bears; Packers-Chiefs; Cardinals-Eagles; 49ers-Buccaneers). The reason, NBC had an NFL Doubleheader that day.
That was his first season. He would prove instrumental in helping the Giants to that second Super Bowl win three seasons later, especially in the playoffs. I met him, and he seems like a really decent and down to earth guy.
Falcons owner Arthur Blank was dancing quite a bit in the 2016 season. He was even dancing once his team took a commanding 28-3 lead, although he calmed down and looked grimmer and grimmer as that game wore on. Textbook example of why so many people try to be careful before celebrating extravagantly. He received quite a bit of criticism after that. But your point is well taken. I was a Giants fan, admittedly. Yet it was fun to see Benson dancing on the sidelines, and added to the charm of the Saints. Still, I remember this game feeling like a nightmare, and this was the game where I had to concede that the G-Men were not going to be getting back to the playoffs that season.
It blows my mind to think to go back to this season not knowing it won't be till another 22 years before we win a super bowl... Unreal..

I remember when we had to listen to the games on WWL throughout the 1980s as a teenager... We only sold out if it's a Monday night
Three of my favorite factors Pat Summerall, John Madden and the New Orleans Saints.

WOW!
The collection of linebackers in this game was off the charts.

Hi. LIKE. LIKE. FOOTBALL. GAME.
Before the Saints won the Super Bowl, 1987 was the best year in Saints Football.
My friend and I were on screen during this game.
1:22 WHAT?! That was there first locally televised home game in 3 years?!
Jim Mora had faults in coaching, but God bless him for bringing saints fans a winning team for first time
Thank you

First game all season that wasn’t blacked out locally. That was a big deal.
87 was a complete mess. Strike and replacements
Who that besides 2009……somebody!
Do you have the Saints Eagles game from 1987?
mcconkey bread basket catch

Dome Patrol at its best. But I bet other Saints fans would find a better defensive game that the Saints was in 1987.
I went to this game, first time the Saints won 4 in a row.
Both lb corps such cc of each other like nothing ever before or after
Is there a way to get this? I’m trying to get some classic games to watch in my free time.
Thanks!!!!!!! I appreciate it...I have A LOT of Saints games on DVD......all but 3 from 1991--if you (you Rob) want any, let me know.
Please if you can upload to you tube. Love these old Saints games from when I was a kid.
OMG 09 vs new england so hard o fine
Upload those games please
@@MrSaints74 can you please post some new Orleans saints football game
@@joewanke6000 if I had them I would, wish I could help you.
Dome patrol best linebacker Corp to ever be put together. To bad we had a terrible offense
I partly agree with you. Wished the Saints had better wide receivers.
Stephen Baker the touchdown maker.

benson was a great showman image an owner acting like that these days

So weird hearing Mark Ingram being called on the Giants.
MrSaints74 Against the team his son would play for no less
Went to prison
No Mora excuses lol
Mora was so conservative. He wouldn't go for it on Fourth and a millimeter his play calling sucked
Jeff Rutledge was awful
