That my freind is one of best of Cold Chisel's songs. Ian Moss has a smoking hot voice and him and Jimmy work so well together. We were so lucky to have these guys playing the soundtrack of our lives as we grew up. I've seen both Ian and Jimmy recently in concerts and they are still soooo good! 🔥 ❤️
My God. Your passionate reaction of our Cold Chisel hits home to me just how lucky I was discovering them when I was 13. And how blessed all we Aussies are. Thanks for the love 💖 Btw, you gotta hear John Farnham doing this live 😉
Arguably the greatest soul/blues/rock band ever. Gifting Aussie audiences for 50 years - is great to see them being more globally recognised, shared & celebrated ...at last 🙏🎸🎤💜🎶🌏🌠
Such an awesome song and performance. Both lead singers Mossy and Barnsey are amazing but love it when Jimmy comes in there at the end, his voice is like a bolt of lighting. John Farnham also does an amazing cover of this song
Nice reaction!. Jimmy Barnes describes the time their A&R man from Warner Records in the US failed to turn up at their critical first industry showcase appearance (he chose to throw a birthday party for his dog instead). Later he tried to apologise to the band with a bag of coke. The boys all said “stuff this”, played their obligatory gigs then headed home.
That was the same concert when you reacted to Bow River,so yeah this was probably straight after that track lol...nice easy song get breathe back go hard again....they do mix it up a bit, songs like janelle, saturday night and this song for instance a bit more chilled
You picked the right version matey 😄If you want to hear them do more ballad stuff, try "Janelle", "Flame Trees" or "Breakfast at Sweethearts". If you want to get back into the rock, check out their cover of "Wild Thing" or "Goodbye Astrid (Goodbye)".
Thank you for so eloquently breaking down and explaining what it actually is that our souls already felt. Thanks to RUclips and people like you, we Aussies are now are able to share with the world what the record companies wouldn’t. I’ve subscribed. 🙂
I love your reactions, the best on RUclips. Especially even more so that you know your stuff being brought up surrounded by music. You are so fun to watch, and yes, the world missed out on amazing music.
Pause as much as you like. It's an awesome song & an exceptional version. Love Ian Moss. He's an awesome musician and has such an original brilliant sounding voice which blends seamlessly with the legendary Jimmy Barnes. Great reaction mate.
Jimmy can sing F2 through to B5.. his range is underrated as he rarely sings in his upper register but when he does the tone is mind blowing. Awesome reaction. The world is just now discovering what they missed out on. ❤️
You nailed it on Bryan Adams. When I was growing up listening to the likes of Chisel, Midnight Oil, ACDC, the Angels, and Rose Tattoo we'd get overseas music played on the radio and I couldn't understand where all the good overseas rock bands were. Americans would rave about Springsteen, and I'd be thinking, yeah he's OK I guess.
Told you this would knock your socks off. Watching these two use their full range from lowest to highest. Jimmy doesnt use his upper range very often, but when he does it KO's people who hear it for the first time. A good example of Jimmy using his lowest range is a song called Fire and Rain. The song is sung Live with another Aussie legend named Marcia Hines. You will fall in love with their voices.
It's always better to pause and talk than talk over the singing. Bryan Adams was big over here when I young, there is actually a video of a Bryan Adams concert where him and Jimmy belt out an ACDC song. Found the video Bryan Adam's and Jimmy Barnes High Voltage. This is from a Concert in Sydney. Jimmy has also sung with Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen.
Cold chisel have been around since early 1970 had the chance of seeing them live in a pub when they were not well known but they brought the house down with “pub rock”. One of the many great bands from Australia
Mate I grew up on this. Hearing you tell me how lucky I was did make me think twice. It was/is such a big part of our culture I just took it for granted. You're right I was spoiled. Thanks for reminding me. I have seen these guys live more than once and own a guitar that Ian borrowed for a gig. Might just pull it out and give it a clean-up tomorrow. 👍
They could have made it worldwide but they were happy to be Australian legends. Because of our isolation the live music scene in Australia was the best in the world so why tour overseas when everything is so far away. I could rattle off dozens of bands that could have made it anywhere but didn't need that success to make them happy. Look at John Farnham, Freddie Mercury said he had one of the best voices on the planet and after he died Queen asked him to be their singer but he didn't want to spend that much time away from family, friends and country.
Young people today do not understand that the greatest recording artist in history did not have auto tune!!! A band that was so underated in the late 70's and 80's Triumph!! Rockstarss in Canada and the US did not appreciate enough Vocals and guitar one of the best EVER
For some more hard rocking Chisel check out their version of Wild Thing. It's probably better than Hendrix's version. ruclips.net/video/8Z6RjUi3rmE/видео.html
The song I love the best, well 2nd best from CC is a little song called "Saturday Night ". It's a small, humble little song which I love love love. The original video for it is fire and while it isn't a big song like "Bow River " or "When the war", it was and is a beautiful song. Not many pple on RUclips have reacted to it and it's a shame.
This is of course one of Chisel's best songs, and it means a lot to many as you can tell by the young lady singing along to it in the crowd. This live version is slower and more acoustic than the album version, but is nonetheless a gem.
This is a stripped back live version of the song. The electric guitar solos for this song are entirely different on the original version. It is well worth checking out for the comparison. The audio is so good, because this was filmed for a DVD of the live concert. I was there in the crowd in the 2nd row. The stage rotated during the concert. Crowd was seated 360 around the stage. Ian Moss is playing near me next week!
(FYI🙂) Re how good the sound is on this one. The sound engineers in Australia are absolutely top, which is why so many of the concert vids still sound so great. When visiting bands came they expected hicks, and would fuss about bringing their own. So many stories about how they were left gobsmacked and then crewed up when they returned! Same with our musicians. Love your authentic good ear reactions. 🇦🇺❣️
Cold Chisel was on heavy rotation during every road trip during the 80's. Ian Moss would be the front man of virtually any other band... that didn't have Jimmy Barnes. How amazing that Cold Chisel had two front men... not to mention the talent of the rest of the band.
That’s great thanks for a great reaction ,John Farnham live 2003 Melbourne version is I think one of Johns greatest performances, jimmy and johns was fantastic as well
Cold chisel went to the states years ago , but refused to jump through the industries hoops , they came home and wrote a song , you’ve got nothing I want , you’ve got nothing I need 👏
You need to review Chisel's version of Wild Thing at their Last Stand concert in '83. Just incredible, especially given that Barnesy was off his chops (pissed).
Jimmy Barnes could have been the lead singer for Van Halen after david lee roth. but declined because he had 3 young children at the time and wanted to raise them in australia as normal as possible. his girls can sing extremely well. and his son plays drums for Rose Tattoo
I know I’m late to the party But you should take a listen to - You’ve got Nothing I Want By Cold Chisel It’s actually about how they went across to America I believe it was to see about a music deal. But because the company tried telling them what to do with their songs and what THEY wanted from the band. Cold Chisel said no we do it our way the way we do things and basically told them where they could put their contract . That’s when You Got Nothing I Want was born. 🇦🇺 👍🏼
You have to react to John farnham singing this song from a live show called the last time. Its from 2003. That live performence is outstanding. One of my favorite with him. It really shows his vocal range to the limit. Its so much better than this. Dont get me wrong. This song is absolutly beautiful. And its a Great live performence But John farnham takes it to another planet. In my oppinion. Together with all the amazing musicians on stage.
