Great James Bond ending and great video. Could not go away till all was good. Got some of that "right stuff" keeping your head in the situation. Keep up the good work and captivating cinema.
My goodness me Guy's you really produced a treat for me in this video, complete with James Bond! As I have said before I LOVE your videos and this night time one was spectacular! Do you have to have a night rating for flying at night in a Microlight (sorry) ultralight? I used to love my night flying over here in England when I used to fly my cessna! My instructor once told me this:- "If you are flying a single engine aeroplane at night and the engine stops, first put your landing lights on, if you like what you see then go ahead and land, if you don't like what you see turn the landing lights off quick!!!
Yes you do and how funny. I prefer to fly during the day, the black spots you see are not soft spots. The mountains were just off to out right. Thanks for watching and we love comments.
I had one day in my trike when I left my towered airport and still on frequency about 25 minutes later I hear them talking about the airport closing in a few minutes. I got on with tower to inquire and he informed me it was in a NOTAM. Unfortunately, the NOTAM had not posted to my Foreflight app when I was checking things before my flight, so I hadn't seen it. (It actually didn't post to Foreflight till ten minutes AFTER the closure was in effect, if you can believe THAT.) Luckily, it worked out, as I told the tower I could be there in ten minutes to land, and he was kind enough to accomodate me and kept the airport open for five minutes after it was supposed to be closed, to let me back down. I'm sure at SOME point I will get stranded away from home base, but not that day!
That’s a great story to hear how they accommodated you. …So good to know that can happen with the Notams. Wonder how we can avoid a situation like that …where an app doesn’t post it in time …
Another spectacular adventure from Larson Adventures, another demonstration of how incredibly capable the REVOLT can be, definitely your adventures are by far the best, this particular situation requires a cool head and nerves of steel, the review about the navigation app was interesting although very short, if possible make a video about this app and all the navigation systems you have. Receive a big hug, waiting for more incredible adventures. Greetings from Venezuela.
Thank you so much Luis from Venezuela! We actually were just talking about doing a video on the app. Will plan on including all our navigation info. Great idea!! So happy you like our videos!!!
Awesome flight and video. Detours are such a pain. Glad you made it back. Have you ever been able to catch a flash flood in progress during the rainy season? Have a great day.
Yes, matter of fact about two weeks ago we filmed it from the air. We also drove our Jeep out to a location and observed a walk of water coming. We have had a lot of monsoons here this year as you know.
@@larsonadventures580 I meant wall of water. I actually had to race back to where we crossed to not get stuck for several hours. Dangerous i know but i was able to beat it. We watched and 15 seconds later it came. Bad me!
When we showed the ipad it did show Deer Valley.. but I only used that to show the ipad since we didn't have it on that trip. We flew into Goodyear airport because that was the closest airport to Buckeye. We did talk about going there on the flight. You must watch it again more closely .. haha!
Just drove through lake havasu at 1:30 am , and it was 94 degrees , So i believe you could still have thermals popping off in the dark causing turbulence. But my question is , if your trike can land in 300-500 ft , and you dont need the full 5500 ft and the plane was down 3/4 fourths of the runway, why did they close the runway to you .I likeds the james bond music and you produced some quality videos , your blessed to have a wife that has good camera skills.
I guess anytime the airport manager is on the runway with a down airplane it will get closed. There was also trucks on the taxi.ways . Thanks for watching and commenting.
I had a flight in my PPC where I was caught in a headwind attempting to get back to the LZ on an evening cross country flight, & by the time I reached the LZ I could no longer see the ground. A very uneasy feeling when the headlights of vehicles began to come on along with other lights. An oh 💩 moment for sure! My phone died too, leaving me with no navigation........ No runway lights to go by either, being just a patch in a farm field. 😖😖😖😖😖😖 On my first attempt, I began to hit the heads of winter wheat, so had to abort that attempt, knowing I had missed the strip to the left. On my second try, now even darker, I impacted the ground before flare, blew the nose gear & buckled the front forks causing a sudden & violent stop that put my 4 point harness to the test, then a flip, as the wing went over, ending inverted after the foreword somersault that left me momentarily disoriented, then I set to task to quickly shut everything off, ignition & fuel pump, then figure out how to get out, being upside-down. Not a fun learning experience for sure!!!!😬😬😬😬😬😬$$$$😞 It had gotten dark enough, I had zero depth perception, in the fuzzy & grainy charcoal grey of dusk, where the ground was now almost black. 😖😖😖😖😖😖
@@larsonadventures580 My friends rushed over screaming are you alright!? I answered back, yea, I’ve been in worse bicycle crashes! I was fine till I saw my machine, then I was sickened. Almost $2,000 in damages, just with the destroyed 3 blade prop & the front forks that had to be rebuilt from scratch by the one who built it originally. I have yet to inspect the wing, scared to look, no telling where my prop lips went, so that cost could go up even more? 😑😬 That cost could easily more than double if a new wing is needed? 😬😬😬😬😬😬!
@@L2FlyMN Oh I'm so sorry to hear that. Of course so grateful you are ok... but what a challenge in cost and so much to fix. Hope you are up in the air again soon!
I'm assuming you have PPL to fly at night I bet this happens with light sport pilots get stuck at night. I read the Mosic NPRM FAA was saying Light sport pilots had ended up flying at night had no training to do it. They wanted to add that to LS but require a medical because they fear people with poor vision might not be able to do it. Looks dark around Buckeye not many city lights easy to get disoriented.
I am looking at this again, maybe the third or fourth time and it struck me that if it is Buckey that has 17/35 at 5500ft I probably would have just landed short or long depending on where the flat tire was. I seldom use 1000 ft. Better to apologize than ask for permission type of situation. But then you have other experiece. Control tower and night flying I don't have.
Yes we were concerned about getting in trouble and another truck was at the other end. After taking to the airport manager, not knowing it was him at the time, we would probably land on one end of the runway next time. But then again…we always love the new adventure. Lol
Pretty sure I could not have dealt with that too easily. I think my mind would have been more like some of the video. You know, swinging wildly around, dark, then bright, then dark!, eek. YeaYea, stay calm....right.......ok....errr......now what.....um, there....no, there. eeekkk!
Loved the video, just a quick question though why wouldn't they allow you to land behind the stationary aircraft? You barely need any runway. From a risk assessment that would have been better than flying to another unknown airport with a phone as nav and a flat battery to boot. I love the adventure part for sure just don't agree with them sending you away. First world countries are spoilt with super long runways.
There were other vehicles on the runway at the time. Other vehicles were also driving towards the runway. Your right though. I didn't want to risk endangering anyone and if my phone didn't start locking up it wouldn't have been a problem. It is always amazing how dim the runway lights are compared to every other light out there. The rotating beacon is the really only noticeable thing from the air until you get close. My phone has the app FlyQ on it but the big Ipad is so nice to fly with. It all worked out great though. Have you heard The saying "two is one, one is none" ? I love having backups. Sometimes that backup becomes the only thing you have. :)
@@larsonadventures580 Thanks for the explanation, I didn't mean to lecture if it came across that way ;).
