This small response “don’t worry…this is just the beginning”, is so eerie. Cassie has spent her entire life fawning over shitty men but her issues have now taken her to the darkest place possible, next to a narcissistic violent abuser. Cassie’s face after what Maddy said proves that even if she does end up going back to Nate (which I’m sure she will) she is done for and will now experience the consequences of her own reckless actions. I know Cassie is scared deep down and this was nothing compared to what she has in store.
Cassie knows he was incredibly abusive but since people didn’t trust her, she doesn’t know he threatened Maddy at gunpoint, blackmailed jules with her nudes, framed another guy for his own assault, etc. I’m scared for her because she’s most likely gonna find out hew abusive nate truly is through abuse and she’ll have no one there for her because people can’t even trust she won’t betray them once they try to confront Nate.

What she said to Rue is tough love but when Rue gets better, she will definitely be there for her. This is the true definition of a trauma bond, you KNOW you will lose everything to be with someone you KNOW is dangerous and a bad person, even doing something like sleep with your best friend’s ex and risk losing her forever (not justifying her actions, just observing her reactions). You KNOW deep down you messed up big time but it feels nearly impossible to get out. It takes 7 times before victims of domestic violence gets out of that abusive relationship for good. Some people unfortunately don’t ever make it to that. The show being focused on Rue, her addiction and withdrawal symptoms that are unbearable is also showing addiction of a different kind, being addicted to a dangerous and awful person.
And Maddy was so loyal to her too. Some girls really pick dick over best friends who were like sisters to them. I’ve been in that situation sadly literally when s2 came out so I really resonated with Maddy.
Maddy’s a loyal protector, she is an absolute best friend material when Cassie started ruining lexi’s play she immediately went on to put her in her place and let Lexi shine. She always have her loved ones back.
Maddie knows that Cassie is going to have a miserable time Flonting after guys who don’t love her. Sometimes you need to see somebody else going through the same thing that you went through for you to have a wake up call seems to be a really repetitive thing in the show.

That’s very true! Rue understands Lexi struggle with her dad because she knows both what it’s like to lose a father and understands what drugs can do to your mind. I hope Barbie and Sam work things out so we can see more growth from Kat’s character next season.

it took me awhile to understand what Maddy had said to Cassie and now it makes me love her more because she’s basically warning Cassie that it’s just going to be a toxic loop of break ups and unnecessary emotional stress. It really shows Maddy is DONE with Nate’s bs and that a little bit of her still cares for her best friend, and Maddy basically gave bestie advice.
I honestly like that Maddy this season realized she deserve better, i think she matured a lot and move forward, Cassie is the one that have a long way to learn self love but I hope she don’t delay to much…

The pan shot in this scene made you feel it all. This is how it feels after you get into a physical fight with someone who you used to call a friend. It’s exhausting and draining. What maddy said to her was legit and I hope she takes her advice.
“This is just the beginning” is so symbolic moving forward, could be interpreted as it’s on sight when they see each other or he’s going to keep manipulating you and the situation. I think it’s the latter because Maddy has been with Nate and the abuse. Although she toxically loves him, she knows how much of a danger loving him was. Cassie thinks she loves Nate and as long as that’s the case Nate will manipulate her and that’s just the beginning of the end for Cassie

This is my favorite moment in Season 2. Maddy isn't threatening Cassie. She's giving her one last advice. From a woman that has been through abuse from a dangerous man she used to love, to some new potentially victim, her ex best friend. *"Don't worry this is just the beginning."* And Maddy looks geniuelly sad here in this scene. She says nothing else and just walks away.. We realize here that she finally moved on from Nate, the abuse and now.. he is truly someone else's problem. A bitter breakup and a bitter end to a conflict that ended with a shrug and a pat on the shoulder. "Don't worry, there's more in store for you".
I don't think she looks sad, she's smirking at Cassie's idiotic decision. It's like, "you want him that bad? have him then. your misery now is just a tiny taste of the shit you're going to have to endure with him."
The way Maddie looks at her when she says “you know what’s funny?” Is a look of pure love and concern. That’s how you look at someone you know you can’t help.
As horrible as Cassies actions are I hope she has a redemption arc because she seems to have grown up with serious self worth issues that I resonate with and I'd be willing to see her and Maddy possibly reconcile next season and take down Nate Jacobs Edit: in the replies some people are saying they feel like Cassies is a lost cause which is ok if that's your opinion but personally I think her redemption should be less focused on her issues being seen/reciprocated by others but more so her figuring out her issues for herself. I feel like with the way her character was written in season 1 it would be upsetting to see someone so relatable become another antagonist for plot devices

Cassie is portrayed as such an extreme of all these negative things that it feels like it would take a 360 degree turn for her to even start being slightly introspective. And the sad reality is that *not everyone (especially IRL) does come back from this.* Sometimes girls like Cassie end up as a statistic. While her behavior doesn't make her beyond redemption, it is concerning that with each "burn" she doesn't decide the heat is too hot to handle, she drowns in it and then runs to it even harder. She is either addicted to the pain or can't understand her true needs enough to realize she doesn't need to suffer for them.

I love this scene so much cause it portrays the akwardness so well. The world spinning, cheering and moving on in the distance but these small space between you and this person you now hate only matters. The akward silence of when both parties are too tired and just sit there not knowing what to do. But when one stands up and leaves, moves on, the akward feeling of loneliness the other person feels and the persisting sadness.
this scene really made me sad after the adrenaline rush that was the fight. it felt even more sad because a bestfriend ship is stronger than any relationship and the fact that cassie broke that i feel is the reason maddy hurt so bad. she knew nate was bad and wrong for her and everyone she knew, knew it too but the fact that cassie went for him after all the shit she knew he put her best friend through was her last straw
I really wonder how this will unfold, cuz when Nate dated Maddy, she always fough back. She was stubborn and actually knew her worth. But Cassie is insecure, dependent and she will do anything to keep him. This will be brutal.
In HS I went through an abusive relationship as well (he was also abused by his dad who was still very present in his life) and I'm going to be honest, I remember the thrill of dating someone toxic that other girls sought after, only to realized behind closed doors he would strangle me and throw me into dark rooms while he would retrieve a weapon. It ended in a court case and not long after his father passed and he OD'd and passed away (we had been broken up for a long time by then). Being a young girl, it's so fun and exciting being wreckless but soon reality hits and you're faced with someone who could potentially kill you, and the thrill goes away and turns into fear. Cassie feels this at the end. Maddy knows any bit of harm she does to Cassie (that Kat allows lol), Nate will do so much worse, so she's lettin the consequences of her actions get her instead of her hands lol

This scene perfectly parallels back to Maddy's scene with Jules where she tells Maddy I wish you could see what other people do when she's with Nate and in this moment she finally understands what Jules and everyone else was trying to tell her. In a way, she's looking at Cassie with pity because she sees herself
All my sympathy for Cassie got lost when Maddy was crying to her near the bathroom door and begged her to give her a explanation yet even after that Cassie walked the hallways with her abusive boyfriend right in front of her. Cassie deserves all the karma that’s coming to her soon sorry not sorry. As a quote I once read said “For any women laughing at another’s women pain trust me yours is a brewing” and that’s exactly what’s going to happen to Cassie, good luck baby girl
The most heartbreaking part was that no one had any legitimate character development and all of their arcs from the first season were trashed in a shallow attempt at shock value.
Honestly felt mixed about this season. I feel like a lot got lost because of the structure. I understand how they tried to communicate the complexities of relationships, trauma, the self/other/unity, and so much more. While I have a special place for the characters and story, I felt some things/scenes could have been simplified because at some points the messages got lost in the confusion. I really hope they tighten it up next season.
The "don't worry, this is just the beginning" wasn't a threat, it was a warning. She doesn't care about the dude and sees him for what he is. She's heartbroken over losing her friend and still cares enough to warn her
Honestly disappointed with this plotline. It felt like the whole season buildup was going to lead to Cassie realizing that she needs to love herself first and not be dependent on a relationship or a man. Finally seeing what she was doing was wrong and how badly she treated everyone especially betraying Maddy. But no……
I never saw her getting to that point Because she could never look and say this is where I messed up she was always pointing out the unimportant stuff like they weren’t together not the big picture of that’s your best friend but maybe after he puts her through this toxic relationship like maddy she will grow
That's probably her story next season, this season was about her obsession with love leading her to a dark place, similar to how Rue's addiction led her to her lowest point yet. I think next season will be about healing.

I loved that Maddie just warned her and backed off. Cassie knew what Nate put Maddie through and she still went for it. Now she's gonna go through everything that Maddie did but probably a lot worse since everything got real messy. And she won't have anyone by her side to talk to, which i only expect her to seek Nate even more.
"Don't worry this is only the beginning" She's not threatening her, she's warning her. Nate Iis gonna come back to use Cassie and then break her heart on repeat just like he did with Maddy
I think a lot of people think Maddy is hating Cassie rn but I truly think she's deeply hurt and worried. Watching this scene makes me believe Maddy still deeply cares for Cassie, but is heartbroken and wants Cassie to admit to her faults. Also, Cassie is clearly (in my opinion) starting to think back to the locker situation in season 1 (post carnival) and rethink her own actions in this season
i love that this shows the difference between cassie and maddy. maddy takes care of her slightest injury due to self respect. cassie's blooded up and couldnt care less.
Instead of showing the scene where the guy plays the guitar with rue, they could’ve just showed what happens when Maddie chased Cassie 😫 that was what I really wanted to see !
Cassie's expression really resonates with me. I know this is reading way too much into it, but to me that's the expression of accepting reality, but knowing you're not going to do shit to change it. You accept how horribly your actions have hurt others and yourself. You understand how insanely dangerous the hellhole you're heading towards is. You know it's horrible and you know you won't enjoy any of it. But you know you won't change. You know you won't even try. So you sit there blankly. Waiting for the routine to start again. Waiting for you to make the same mistakes again tomorrow. I know that feeling. And I know just how empty and lonely it is. I'm glad Maddy gives a final bit of kindness to Cassie though. Stuff you hear when your walls are all the way down sticks with you.

This small response “don’t worry…this is just the beginning”, is so eerie. Cassie has spent her entire life fawning over shitty men but her issues have now taken her to the darkest place possible, next to a narcissistic violent abuser. Cassie’s face after what Maddy said proves that even if she does end up going back to Nate (which I’m sure she will) she is done for and will now experience the consequences of her own reckless actions. I know Cassie is scared deep down and this was nothing compared to what she has in store.

This is the true definition of a trauma bond, you KNOW you will lose everything to be with someone you KNOW is dangerous and a bad person, even doing something like sleep with your best friend’s ex and risk losing her forever (not justifying her actions, just observing her reactions). You KNOW deep down you messed up big time but it feels nearly impossible to get out. It takes 7 times before victims of domestic violence gets out of that abusive relationship for good. Some people unfortunately don’t ever make it to that.
The show being focused on Rue, her addiction and withdrawal symptoms that are unbearable is also showing addiction of a different kind, being addicted to a dangerous and awful person.

The pan shot in this scene made you feel it all. This is how it feels after you get into a physical fight with someone who you used to call a friend. It’s exhausting and draining. What maddy said to her was legit and I hope she takes her advice.
“This is just the beginning” is so symbolic moving forward, could be interpreted as it’s on sight when they see each other or he’s going to keep manipulating you and the situation. I think it’s the latter because Maddy has been with Nate and the abuse. Although she toxically loves him, she knows how much of a danger loving him was. Cassie thinks she loves Nate and as long as that’s the case Nate will manipulate her and that’s just the beginning of the end for Cassie

This is my favorite moment in Season 2. Maddy isn't threatening Cassie. She's giving her one last advice. From a woman that has been through abuse from a dangerous man she used to love, to some new potentially victim, her ex best friend. *"Don't worry this is just the beginning."* And Maddy looks geniuelly sad here in this scene. She says nothing else and just walks away.. We realize here that she finally moved on from Nate, the abuse and now.. he is truly someone else's problem. A bitter breakup and a bitter end to a conflict that ended with a shrug and a pat on the shoulder. "Don't worry, there's more in store for you".
I don't think she looks sad, she's smirking at Cassie's idiotic decision. It's like, "you want him that bad? have him then. your misery now is just a tiny taste of the shit you're going to have to endure with him."

As horrible as Cassies actions are I hope she has a redemption arc because she seems to have grown up with serious self worth issues that I resonate with and I'd be willing to see her and Maddy possibly reconcile next season and take down Nate Jacobs
Edit: in the replies some people are saying they feel like Cassies is a lost cause which is ok if that's your opinion but personally I think her redemption should be less focused on her issues being seen/reciprocated by others but more so her figuring out her issues for herself. I feel like with the way her character was written in season 1 it would be upsetting to see someone so relatable become another antagonist for plot devices

Cassie is portrayed as such an extreme of all these negative things that it feels like it would take a 360 degree turn for her to even start being slightly introspective. And the sad reality is that *not everyone (especially IRL) does come back from this.* Sometimes girls like Cassie end up as a statistic.
While her behavior doesn't make her beyond redemption, it is concerning that with each "burn" she doesn't decide the heat is too hot to handle, she drowns in it and then runs to it even harder. She is either addicted to the pain or can't understand her true needs enough to realize she doesn't need to suffer for them.

I love this scene so much cause it portrays the akwardness so well. The world spinning, cheering and moving on in the distance but these small space between you and this person you now hate only matters. The akward silence of when both parties are too tired and just sit there not knowing what to do. But when one stands up and leaves, moves on, the akward feeling of loneliness the other person feels and the persisting sadness.
this scene really made me sad after the adrenaline rush that was the fight. it felt even more sad because a bestfriend ship is stronger than any relationship and the fact that cassie broke that i feel is the reason maddy hurt so bad. she knew nate was bad and wrong for her and everyone she knew, knew it too but the fact that cassie went for him after all the shit she knew he put her best friend through was her last straw
To see the realization that Cassie experiences in this moment is everything. So much was said with very little words.

In HS I went through an abusive relationship as well (he was also abused by his dad who was still very present in his life) and I'm going to be honest, I remember the thrill of dating someone toxic that other girls sought after, only to realized behind closed doors he would strangle me and throw me into dark rooms while he would retrieve a weapon. It ended in a court case and not long after his father passed and he OD'd and passed away (we had been broken up for a long time by then). Being a young girl, it's so fun and exciting being wreckless but soon reality hits and you're faced with someone who could potentially kill you, and the thrill goes away and turns into fear. Cassie feels this at the end. Maddy knows any bit of harm she does to Cassie (that Kat allows lol), Nate will do so much worse, so she's lettin the consequences of her actions get her instead of her hands lol

All my sympathy for Cassie got lost when Maddy was crying to her near the bathroom door and begged her to give her a explanation yet even after that Cassie walked the hallways with her abusive boyfriend right in front of her. Cassie deserves all the karma that’s coming to her soon sorry not sorry. As a quote I once read said “For any women laughing at another’s women pain trust me yours is a brewing” and that’s exactly what’s going to happen to Cassie, good luck baby girl

The most heartbreaking part was that no one had any legitimate character development and all of their arcs from the first season were trashed in a shallow attempt at shock value.
Honestly felt mixed about this season. I feel like a lot got lost because of the structure. I understand how they tried to communicate the complexities of relationships, trauma, the self/other/unity, and so much more. While I have a special place for the characters and story, I felt some things/scenes could have been simplified because at some points the messages got lost in the confusion. I really hope they tighten it up next season.

Honestly disappointed with this plotline. It felt like the whole season buildup was going to lead to Cassie realizing that she needs to love herself first and not be dependent on a relationship or a man. Finally seeing what she was doing was wrong and how badly she treated everyone especially betraying Maddy. But no……
She'll probably have her arc next season.

That's probably her story next season, this season was about her obsession with love leading her to a dark place, similar to how Rue's addiction led her to her lowest point yet. I think next season will be about healing.

I loved that Maddie just warned her and backed off. Cassie knew what Nate put Maddie through and she still went for it. Now she's gonna go through everything that Maddie did but probably a lot worse since everything got real messy. And she won't have anyone by her side to talk to, which i only expect her to seek Nate even more.

I think a lot of people think Maddy is hating Cassie rn but I truly think she's deeply hurt and worried. Watching this scene makes me believe Maddy still deeply cares for Cassie, but is heartbroken and wants Cassie to admit to her faults. Also, Cassie is clearly (in my opinion) starting to think back to the locker situation in season 1 (post carnival) and rethink her own actions in this season
i love that this shows the difference between cassie and maddy. maddy takes care of her slightest injury due to self respect. cassie's blooded up and couldnt care less.

Cassie's expression really resonates with me. I know this is reading way too much into it, but to me that's the expression of accepting reality, but knowing you're not going to do shit to change it.
You accept how horribly your actions have hurt others and yourself. You understand how insanely dangerous the hellhole you're heading towards is. You know it's horrible and you know you won't enjoy any of it.
But you know you won't change. You know you won't even try. So you sit there blankly. Waiting for the routine to start again. Waiting for you to make the same mistakes again tomorrow.
I know that feeling. And I know just how empty and lonely it is. I'm glad Maddy gives a final bit of kindness to Cassie though. Stuff you hear when your walls are all the way down sticks with you.
