I live in the Caribbean and have a Tesla Battery Solar System. We just had the Cat 5 Hurricane Beryl pass by. The Power grid was shut down and my Tesla system ran my house for the next 12 hours. The Solar runs my house all the time with the battery system at night or no sun. I Love it!!!! All Houses should have battery backup! P.S. I kept my transfer switch to hook up a generator at anytime. All Houses should have these systems. 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) has been a real revolution in energy storage technology. Regular lithium Ion batteries were upwards to $1000 a few years ago, now you can get a decent LiFePO4 battery for around $400. This is scaring the power companies since with enough battery and solar people can dramatically reduce their reliance on the grid, so power companies are lobbying for laws that make it hard to put in and run grid-tied homes, or worse, homes that are totally self sufficient.
With our collapsing infrastructure I doubt they are blocking it as most of the electric bill is flat fees. Plan on it rising as people potentially don’t connect
They will just increase their administration fees to make up for the loss of revenue. Someday, we can just disconnect from the electricity companies and they can go bankrupt.
@@t20594 I know in Nevada they were blocking it pretty hard. Where I am in Massachusetts they are all gung ho about it but that's because my state's government put a gun to their head over it.
Still a single POF at the sump. You should elevate your batteries off the floor on some cinder blocks to protect from flooding due to a sump failure. Wouldn’t want to go in there with a couple inches of water on the floor …
NEC Codes says you should not have electrical near plumbing pipes or water. Potential safety hazard and it could get in the way of fixing the plumbing or electrical when a problem arises. It looks like the manifold to the left is for your heating and hot water and a pipe is under your power switchover box.
The thing I like about battery backup is the simplicity. And you don't need to go out to start your generator. Of course, if there is NG in your area, a standby generator is really the way to go. Self testing/self switching. of course.
Yeah I seen this system on another RUclips channel called hidden heights farm where he hooked it up to run freezers in case of a power outage it would automatically come on and then when power was restored which switch itself back over and I write that company. They sell everything electronic. Even my phone charger bricks are made by them. They are excellent quality
But what if you have a multitude day power outage? The battery pack is only good for a few hours. You still need a generator or solar panels for the recharge
With so many EVs and E-bikes burning down houses, haven't you just increased the risk of house fire? Maybe build a fireproof concrete bunker around that big backup battery, or put it in an out-building.
EVs burning down homes is a myth, theyre an extrenely low risk. Tbese type of batteriee are very stable. The junk ones in e scooters etc are not the same, even tool batteries are a higher risk
Don’t begrudge any things you might get in exchange for promotion, but I think disclosure is definitely warranted. How did you choose this setup? Any comparison “shopping”? 😊👍👍
I opted for a 22kw standby generator. It's fully automatic and will power my house continuously even during long, extended power outages. I think a backup battery might be good for short outages to power the important stuff like freezers and refrigerators, but it's not a replacement for my generator.
The only thing I guess I have to add is that being able to power the AC is about more than comfort. It's also about controlling the humidity, which can be pretty important. Neat video, interesting to see these.
You need to add solor to the set up as well. A girdtie inverter that way it will make the meter go backwards in the day time and the power company should pay you for any extra power it makes.
Get an easy start for your ac/well pump/ heating It’s the initial start up that sucks up so much power from the battery An easy start will use 120 instead of This will allow you to have ac/heat/water in a power outage without sucking the battery dry in a short period of time Personally I think you should just solar panel the place and never have to worry again
we got an ecoflow system for my 90 year old mother. sump pumps , microwave outlet, internet outlets (so you can still communicate with the system and she can get news), outlet for tv, oil furnace for heat, all the essentials. 7200 watt hours will run the house for a day in winter. did not connect a/c
Anker really make some nice whole home back up systems now. I do like the fact you could take it to a different location and it’s not permanently wall mounted. There warranty seems generous so they must have faith in their build quality.
You should use water powered back up pump for your sump pit. I’ve had one for 15 years and NO BATTERIES! Uses house water pressure instead of a battery powered pump. Liberty SJ10 is a good unit.
you need to get some solar and probably even more batteries, I think you should redo mechanical room to make it look neater and cleaner, easier to work on but overall good topic to make more content about - think about fabbing up a micro turbine - 23 hr power, think about helical design possibly - check local zoning but you could put a 10ft helical up on a 20ft pole and since you have 10ft compact blades capture a lot more energy as a result and be bird friendly also
Do you have a 'soft start' for central air ? I can run my central air off a 7500W generator with a soft start to limit the amps at start up. This looks like a cleaner option if it will run whole house A/C
Would be a nice carryv around gen.. but "whole home"... umm I'm in Houston.. AC is a must.. and 30 mins drew almost 10%.. 5 hours on a small window unit... umm.. no thanks. And 2.. bout 10k... I'll keep my generac that cost the same and I can run my ac and everything else in my house for DAYS..
I have heard that the "used up" EV car batteries are perfect for home house backup as the draw is lower than a car so they still work great. Would be interesting to see something like that incorporated. Hang the battery or multiple batteries in the shop and back feed from there during an outage.
Looks like a neat packaged system. It would be helpful to integrate solar into the system, to get some energy when the suns out. Thanks for the Videos.
Man, I want to do that, but the whole solar panels and battery backup. Had a guy stop and try to talk us into leasing a solar setup supposedly for what we are paying per month now but their reviews were mostly bad and seemed scammy. Neighbor owns a solar company but he doesn't live there anymore and he only shows up when the renters leave or the house needs work. That thing seems cool but I want to make power and have no electric bill. Awesome devices though hmmm...
This is basically the endgame for Musk. He wants to manufacture a battery that can power every home and a charging system (Solar most likely) for it so anyone can be off the grid and self sufficient. The Tesla car was just a vessel to start developing some of this technology. They also have worked on shingles that are solar panels. JR is always ahead of the game, love it.
seems expensive for the capacity. Generac 22kw NG or propane standby generator is cheaper and will power more loads. I guess if you are doing arbitrage you have that benefit with solar?
I'm dubious about the cost effectiveness of this. We used to have our house plumbed to run on gas generators when power went out, which it often did for days at a time.
This technology has really come in to its own the last couple of years. I have a couple of Jackery units (smaller than these behemoths). They're handy.
Yesterday there were 2 cyber trucks at McDonald's for lunch, 3 new grand wagoneer at starbuck's, Corvette at teriyaki house, gang of f350s at subway. Gabe thought you should know what's up at Newcastle wa.
My Goodman system was ok for the first 5 years. Now, it breaks down every spring (for the past 5 years in a row). Averages $1300 in repairs every breakdown. It came with the house when I purchased it. I heard Goodman was only rated as fair and basic in most reviews I’ve read. It should die soon and I’m looking at a Bryant replacement.
now show us how to run your whole house on batteries for decades...or when the grid goes down in a major storm event for months...how many of those would it take to power your house with solar panel kits...and have back ups for when those units break down are out of warranty... what would that cost us to do that...maybe you could show on this channel or one of your other channels...what it really takes to go solar...and have back ups for your back ups...that would be worth watching
John Ross, "Everybody" doesn't have one of those let alone 2. Some of us have two Liebert UPS's, one 50kva, one 30kva. Oh and two generators to back those up. Gosh... Get with the times....
I guess it’d depend on amps, passes, continuous or stitching beads, materials, techniques (MIG, TIG, Stick) etc. requirements. It’s got enough juice to do quite a bit, but there’s no way it would compete with a gas generator in this case. I imagine the initial pull every time an arc is struck would be pretty hard on it. Cheers.
Personally i would build a building separate from the house. The reason is the rather likely chance these catch fire. Do not keep these inside your house. Don't try to run large motors on an inverter unless its a pure sine wave model. Motors follow the sine wave that's why most spin at 1800 or 3600 give or take. You want smooth power delivery not spikes that kills motors. Its not likely you hurt the pump with this considering I would be surprised if this doesn't already have a pure sine wave inverter. Also if you can you should set your pack charge cutoff at 95%. You wont lose much capacity but you will greatly increase the pack life.
FWIW- the house had no AC so the window unit was starting from scratch with having to cool and remove humidity. Definitely more draw required to accomplish this than merely maintain.
How long will they power the house for? I know it depends what all you run but on average. I live in hurricane country and wondered if it would be worth getting. I could be without power for 1-2 weeks.
