THE REVIEW
I watch each episode with my own commentary, often pausing the scenes to get my words out without having to talk over the episode, and also to point out and analyze the show's art and animation. I have seen each episode already growing up, so these reviews are to compare and contrast the five categories listed below.
PLOT (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
The foundation of the episode. Uniqueness and overused tropes are taken into account, but it is also judged on how well it tells the story of the episode. An episode can score a 5 even with a basic/ cliche plotline as long as it has good pacing, worthy use of its tropes, and feels well-polished. An episode can lose points due to plotholes, uneven storytelling, and relying too heavily on cliches to do the work for it.
CHARACTERIZATION (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
How well the characters are written. Do they feel like themselves compared to the grand narrative of the franchise? Are the supporting or one-off characters interesting, or pure plot devices? Did the humor land? Did the actions and character motivations make sense?
VISUALS (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
Basically, everything that happens on-screen. Character Design. Animation. Backgrounds. Creative mechanics and solutions. If there is CGI or digital effects added, how well do they blend into the show, and were they used as an enhancement, or a crutch?
IMPORTANCE (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
This includes, but is not strictly based on, how important the episodes are to the current story arc (if there is one) or the general narrative of the Ben 10 Franchise. Points can also be awarded for how impactful the episode was, or how favored/ important it is to the general Ben 10 fanbase. I ask myself, "If I skipped this, would I be missing out on the 'Ben 10 Experience?' "
ENTERTAINMENT (Scaled from 1 to 5)
Pretty much the most important part of developing a tv show. You can be perfect in all four of the previous categories, but the episode can still be boring. On the flip side, the episode can be absolute garbage, but still an enjoyable watch. How likely would you be to put this episode on if you were in the mood to watch Ben 10?

I am in a weird place where I love omniverse but can see all the problems by watching UAF
While I prefer Charmcaster redeemed, I like the Idea of the stone creatures as magical constructs a lot more than an a sentient species. Since the latter has bad implications for how they were treated in pretty much every other time they appeared, including by Gwen 10.000 who basically had one as a dog for her nephew.
I mean that one is shaped like a dog and have dog’s behavior
What is better? To be born good or to overcome your evil nature through great effort?

Ironic how the crew wanted Charmcaster to be redeemed but it was Hex who ended up becoming a full aly while she remained a villain

I am shocked that Adwaitia is from Terraspin's species but it is so interesting. Of course a guy immune to mana would conquer a dimension where people use that to defend themselves.
Also Galapagas talking about him like an important figure and Greg wanting to absorb one of them make so much sense. Man I love when everything is connected.
It makes sense Adwaitia would be a "celebrity" on his home planet. He's literally the only one of the species we see doing anything other than being a monk(except Galapagas, but that was against his will). No matter how peaceful your entire species is, the one guy who's basically a goth and social rebel will always be brought up in conversation
And I like how they do the connecting thing alot, really helps with world building in a series with as big a universe as Ben 10's

it is weird though; Galapagus described his people as being completely pacifist and against any notion of violence and ill will, and yet, here's Adwaitia dominating and enslaving an entire dimension, attacking any and all that even dare walk freely in his domain etc. like that's the entire opposite of what Galapagus said his species was about, worst of all, Galapagus himself goes on to praise Adwaitia's name like he's some benevolent god of good fortune and worth worshipping

Possibly prior to Adwaita conquering it he was some hero who used magic for the good of his species. Like if Superman saved the earth all the time, but when he went to a different planet he was a supreme dictator. No one on Earth knows what kind of monster he is just that he’s a hero to them

Charmcaster is like the Doctor Strange/Zatanna/Constantine of the Ben 10 universe (highly disciplined but limited magic user with potential to gain unlimited power through practice and external means) where as Gwen is more like Wanda/Jean Grey/Raven (unlimited power user but less skilled at using abilities and becomes more powerful when out of control), the writers could've definitely done more with her character and storyline.
Funny how Charmcaster has so much in common with Wanda visually, yet Gwen is the one who's as powerful as Wanda.

Have you noticed Charmcaster's eyes are blue when she's on Earth but when she's in Legerdomain her eyes are purple, I like to think its because of the all the magic flowing through Legerdomain
Probably, since the place houses would seems to be the highest concentration of magic in the whole universe, some effects of it are just involuntary
It's a cool idea, but her eyes change from purple to blue and back in "Hit 'Em Where They Live" so I think this is just an error.

She reminded me of Doctor Doom. In the same way Doom wanted to free his mother from Mephisto, Charmcaster also wanted to have her father back and was willing to sacrificing everything.
I'm not saying Charmcaster is irredeemable, but it's not like she wasn't properly set up the way she was in Omniverse. Between sacrificing a lot of people, her father rejecting what she did for him, & Dark Star using her (as well as not even remembering her name), I think she got pushed over the edge. And as we've established, she's pretty insecure about herself.

Same here. To me UAF set up two paths for her, and while i think the redemption path would've been better, the other path worked just fine. (Plus, o really enjoyed her in Omniverse)
I just don't like her personality in ov. They made her like a crazy cat lady. She didn't need to be redeemed but ov kind of just made her an annoying version of her os self.

I would have liked to see Charmcaster redeem herself within Ben 10 and become an occasional ally. Unfortunately, it seems like Kevin was the only reoccurring villain to become good and stay a good guy.

Ben and Charmcaster should have dated like just even one time because if Gwen can date and marry Ben's rival (Kevin Levin) then Charmcaster (Gwen's rival) and Ben being a thing isn't that farfetched.
Adwaigia's prolonged exposure to legerdomain has likely caused his body to alter... or at the very least granted immortality. He could be a more primitive form of Terraspin's species.

8:54 unpopular opinion: I kinda dig omniverse’s design of legerdemain, I agree that it’s a bit much but the bizzar look of it makes it feel more like it’s own thing and screams out the chaotic nature of magic, while UA always looked like a magical version of the null void as a kid
Me too (though iirc that quick glimpse of it was all we got in Omniverse). But I like how zany and comic booky it was in OV.
Just seeing the redesign from OV, it really feels extra Kirby, like the Dark Dimension and Adwaitia (however you spell his name) is their Dormamu.
Ov ledgerdomain feels like such an eyesore. They threw everything they could in there and it's such a mess.
i always got the impression that there was more to Charmcaster ever since Classic, even if there's no justifying some of the things she's done, so it was nice to see a more vulnerable side of her character. though, it would've been cool to have her and gwen stay as friendly rivals rather than Charmcaster going back to being full-on evil.
That's not how I saw it in Omniverse Season 5.
She was more of a goofy anti-hero side-character in that.
I felt that maybe showing something happen to Charmcaster that actually drove her insane would have been better

For Addwaityas design, I always imagined him being a more "primal" form of terrapins race
Or maybe his body deteriorated from all the magic use. His "immunity" to it and frequent use probably had unexpected repurcussions and clashed with one another, in a sense. Plus, maybe he's extended his lifespan with magic beyond how long his species should be capable of living, but he couldn't fully repair his body since his soul also aged too long or something

Well, Gwen said something similar after Charmcaster was trapped on Omniverse.
It actually makes sense that Addwaitya would become the most powerful being in Ledgerdomain. His species are immune to magic/mana, but they can also still use magic as well. Being immune to the main source of attack of an entire dimension as well as being able to use said attack yourself, it'd be easy to conquer the entire dimension
He became the Magical version of Superman lol. You can't just punch him and expect that to do anything, but if he punches you it's a different story.
I would've liked Charmcaster to be redeemed. It'd be a nice parallel to Ben and Kevins rivalry and then bromance also we could have had an ominiverse trio of Ben, Rook and Charmcaster.
As much as I like Omniverse, it was disappointing having Charmcaster revert back to being a straight-up villain again. If the Tennyson's can forgive Kevin for the many times he's tried to kill them (specifically Ben) as kids, then Charmcaster really hasn't done anything too irredeemable to warrant her still being an enemy. Kevin considers Ben a younger brother, so it's possible for Gwen and Charmcaster to develop a close friendship despite the rocky start to their relationship. I wouldn't even mind her joining the trio for a time.
The thing is Charmcaster made a mass genocide happen all for her father to come back and the age gap is also strange.
We have enough reasons in Ua for charmcaster turning insane in ov
We did get her after the universe “reboot” so maybe Ben still thought she was somewhat evil not insane but he remembered what happened and that probably affected her

I like to imagine that Adwatia is viewed as having ascended kinda like the Buddha.
Physically evolved (basically going ultimate) but being charged with magic rather than DNA.
I like it when characters have more interesting color patterns (and in this case eye color) so I prefer Charm Caster’s purple eyes a lot more than the blue
I agree with Kuro in that Ledgerdomain needed a little more detail, but it still looked awesome. Kinda like one of those abstract paintings you'd see in art exhibits
I always thought Charmcaster was the wild card of the Ben 10 villains.
We never really knew what she would do when she showed up.
Half the time trying to kill Gwen and the team, other times she worked with them and protected them.
She plays a similar role to Scarlet Witch in Marvel Comics, where half the time she's a villain and the rest of the time she's an anti-hero/hero character.
She really only worked with them in this episode before omniverse.
1:50 Omniverse's tone isn't the reason she turned evil again. She turned evil again because DJW and the Omniverse staff preferred her as a villain.

It's a mix of both because while it is clear that the people behind omniverse( with several of them also working on uaf) wanted her to be a villain again, the overall tone of omniverse didn't fit with the stories they were telling with charm caster in uaf

I honestly would’ve loved if Charmcaster and Gwen had a relationship similar to Ben and Kevin, it would’ve added another part to the team and another piece to explore in her character

I was so shocked as a child when the whole trio failed and charmcaster effectively killed them.
She only killed them because of the alpha ruin, without it, she definitely doesn't kill them.
Charmcaster turning good was something I kinda always thought should happen.
Man after getting reminder how terrible Addwaitya really is, him escapping back to Legerdomain (pressumably to enslave everyone remaining in there again) scott free while Charmcaster got trapped in her bag seems kinda messed up
Charmcaster is/could be to Gwen what Kevin was/is to Ben. The villain with similar powers from classic series who slowly turned good and became friends
I like to think that Adwetia is a subspecies of his people that doesn't have the spinning ability but has some other powers to make up for that.
There is very little that we know about him, so there is a lot of room for the imagination.
He probably just altered himself with magic

It would if been so cool if charmcaster redeemed herself and became Gwen's roommate in college with hex as there teacher. Maybe omniverse could of done something where the three of them combine their powers and bring back spell binder for good without killing everyone.
I think Charmcaster's natural eye colour is blue, but when she's using magic in some way (or in places of high magic like ledgerdomain) they get a more purple tint since magic in UAF is mostly pink.
I feel like a middle ground between the Legerdomain of Alien Force and Omniverse, leaning more towards Alien Force, would be perfect
It would've been interesting to see Charmcaster be redeemed. Kevin is proof that it's possible. It seem by Omniverse, they didn't know what to do with her character and just decided to make her wacky.
More that they were trying to strike a balance by making her look and act more like her original self, but also keeping the possibility of her being redeemed open.
@@theking8347 a big part on why I dislike omniverse so much was the fact that they were scared of viewership decreasing so much, they failed to develop characters. Her design is whatever, I prefer the UAF design but that's my preference. The fact that she essentially became a one off goofy Gwen's enemy character again shows just how little care was done for the character. Personally, I would've loved to have concluded her character arc continuing on from this point to have turned into a witch employed by the plumbers or idk travelling the magic dimensions being a force for good

I like her personality in Omniverse, she's really fun, but I don't understand why they're so resilient to redeem some of their villains, like Albedo or Charmcaster
@@mertensiam3384 They were thinking in different directions, not all people have same opinion, I have seen many people who hate albedo and charmcaster being anymore than pure evil, but ov also gave us realistic reason as to why these people choose to remain evil
I partly thought that Hex’s reason for world domination was to raise an army against Addwaitya. But since his fall from power, Hex eventually gave up his villain role, losing all motivation.
Ya know. I think I liked the expansion on magic users in general. By Omniverse there's a least a rogues gallery of different enemies that Gwen knows and has clearly dealt with plenty of times by then so it's cool. Anyway.. Hero Time!
I've always felt mix on whether or not Charmcaster on being redeemed.
On one hand it can explore more her character and makes her and Gwen interactions more interesting.
On the other hand alot of the things I and many fans enjoy her chaotic wicked nature from most of the series.
What if she can be redeemed and be somewhat chaotic at the same time that might be cool in my opinion

I remember this episode from when I was a kid. I always thought that it was very strange that they did away with Charmcaster’s redemption arc.

I like to think the ‘Alpha Tune’ was more of a legend in Ledger Domain. Paradox just placed it there and its raw power enhanced the abilities of the wearer. Thus people believed it was truly the Alpha Rune
Something else that I think contributed to Charmcaster not getting redeemed (at least in universe) was Darkstar manipulating her. That made her break down after removing him from Ledgerdomain.
Between that and Spellbinder rejecting the resurrection, I'm not surprised she went fully nuts in OV.
8:57 Omniverse's take seems inspired by Steve Ditko's design on Dormammu's Dark Dimension only more freaky.
for me, that ledgerdomain design kinda fits more to a anur planet. maybe anur phaetos? (ghostfreak's planet)
gonna have to add this one to the list of missed opportunities for transformations thus far:
-Ben not going Ultimate Bigchill on McDilty
-Ben not turning into(and debuing) Ripjaws on Piscus
-Ben not turning into Teraspin and trying to use it's magic immunity power

What my 7 year old self thought that the 4 pieces mean something
So basically since it could alter time and reality i used to think that every piece means something
Like the 1st piece was related to temperature and conditions
The second piece was related to gravity and control
The third piece is related to magic
And the 4th piece which was in that weird cube could only be accessible when you had the other 3 peices meaning the 4th piece is related to existence
And when these 4 pieces meet you can control time and reality
Ik this is something really wild but that was what i assumed back then 😅
Huh. Interesting head-canon. It's obviously not what ultimately happened in the show, but it would have been cool if it did happen.

How else do you depict a realm where there's no rules except the one magic users dictate than with some trippy ass imagery?
UA Ledgerdomain looks barren, but not barren in a liminal space way, like Dimension X in the Rise ofthe TMNT movie.
OV's Ledgerdomain could also be a reflection of Charmcaster's mental state in that series.
I really would've liked to see Charmcaster redeemed, and maybe even join the team. She would've made a great addition as a partner and maybe even best-friend to Gwen akin to Ben and Kevin, and it was sort of hinted at in this very episode. In my head canon, Charmcaster and Gwen are best buds somewhere out there, studying magic, and having smoothies.
Charmcaster is one of those villains you love to hate but since ultimate alien expanded on the ledger domain, now I kind of understand why her and her uncle hex became so power hungry to conquer earth.
Also since after the failed sacrifice she made with the 600 thousand souls including Ben, Kevin and Gwen's to ressurect her father, something broke in her. Now I just feel pity.
They managed to redeem Kevin (in a rather rushed way) so I don't see why we shouldn't see not-Caroline's
I always liked the idea of redeeming Charmcaster even since the time she deceived Gwen in her debut. It hurt when she got changed to a lunatic in Omniverse.
I honestly prefer to treat Omniverse as fanfiction with how much it ruined most of the characters

And considering how much UAF added to the world I'd pretty much say he made ben 10 his "kid"
Aggregor needed more active conflict with the main Trio. His power is a little confusing as to how strong he *really is* but that has ALWAYS been a problem with this series since both Ben, Gwen, and sometimes even Kevin could possibly be considered the strongest of the 3 depending on where we are in the series, this was especially a thing with Gwen's anodite side not getting fully brought through on. Aggregor has a solid personality but never really gets to do anything interesting to make us engaged with him like Vilgax or honestly even Maltruant and Malware. At the end of the day he just ends up being a big powerful asshole who just so happens to have a connection to Kevin that only comes through at the very end.
A more elaborated fight of Terraspin, Gwen, and Charmcaster vs Adwaita would've been nice.
In fact, it would've been nice if Ben used the respective Andromeda alien depending of the place they're at.
But I guess it's just as fitting if Ben uses a different Ultimate alien for each different place while Aggregor is the one using the perks of the Andromeda 5.

When it comes to her eye color, I think it’s be cool if they were purple in Legerdomain like an effect of the increased magic potential
To me, it didn't make much sense for charmcaster to get redeemed as she didn't appear to have that much remorse in classic.
Edit: Now that I think about it, I think my biggest problem with her is that I can't even understand why she's evil to begin with. I get that Hex sometimes forced her to do bad stuff, but other times she's seen to act on her own out of spite for gwen
Exactly her evilness seems to stem from either pettiness or just having a massive chip on her shoulder.
I think Charmcaster might be both. Sure she helped Gwen this episode, but she did kill Gwen in an alternative timeliness and was going to do it to the real Gwen.
Plus she was the only person who actually killed the trio. If not for Charmcaster's father thinking that her actions was wrong and cruel, the trio would've remained killed.

Charmcaster's eyes really depend on what design, her and Classic UAF designs I prefer with purple eyes, but the OV one would look better with blue

Interesting that they didn’t play around with the idea of Kevin absorbing the magic rock material established in Time Heals, where Charmcaster was able to control/enslave him magically the same as her rock monsters. Maybe Terraspin and Kevin could’ve joined in on the group effort at 17:04? Chromastone can manipulate energy, so it was a little disappointing not seeing anything made of that either.

I loved how they gave Charmcaster's background in this episode. I was not fan at first but then I thought it would have been cool had Charm switched sides with Ben's team and both her and Gwen help out each other in their magic flaws they've had. Sad that they couldn't carry on.

I’m hoping the sixth iteration Ben 10 series would have an alternate Charmcaster/Heather slowly become good and join alternate Ben’s alien force team along with an alternate version of Rook Blanko. And maybe have both Ben and Charmcaster have a romantic relationship like Gwen and Kevin in Ben 10: Alien Force.

I wish we got a fight between Ultimate Humungousaur and Ultimate Aggregor. Not only because Ultimate Humungousaur would probably win (he put up a better fight against Ultimate Kevin WITH Ultimate Greg's powers than Ultimate Greg did against him without them) but because Ultimate Humungousaur is kinda the staple alien of the Ultimates and the leader of them in Ultimate Sacrifice.
Plus regular Humungousaur couldn't beat Greg so if Ultimate Humungousaur could beat him, it would show why he needs Ultimates.
I love the fact that this one got a full breakdown. I really enjoy magic related/gwen centric episodes and all the other ones got mini breakdowns.

Regarding Charmcasters eyes I believe it's part of the whole mythology of witches that their eyes change colours,being a clear indicator of being with during pilgrim times. so it's likely a reference, or a mistake...
Here's a headcanon for why Adwaitya can be harmed by mana: He has absorbed so much mana, incorporated it into his body, to the point that he now resembles his species only in shape. Biologically, he has changed ironically to the point that he has lost his biological immunity. The "You actually managed to hurt me line," does contain this hint of concern like, "oh... shit, that's not right"
That's basically. Dwayne said that Addwaita's immense magical powers mutated his body to the point that the only resemblance he has to a Geochelone Aerio anymore is that he's a bipedal turtle.
Dwayne said that he still has his species' wind abilities though, but him losing his immunity to mana is reasonable.

It would've been interesting if Charmcaster was more or less redeemed, but had a moral compass that just didn't quite mesh with the crew. Which... we do see in this series, in how self-serving Charmcaster tends to be in most of her goals and motivations such as how she is willing to put others at risk or in harms way or exploit them for her own ends. She might be willing to work with the heroes if it furthers her goals, and some of her goals might be noble, but she isn't intrinsically heroic.
That way she could remain a separate entity doing her own thing most of the time, and team up with Ben or Gwen whenever more traditional, non-alien magic-y stuff is going on in which they need her help. And then in turn, they owe her a favor which she comes to collect on later for... morally questionable assistance that leads to yet another confrontation between Ben/Gwen and Charmcaster. It would've been a way to leave the story open to more plot threads.
I would've loved a redemption arc for Charmcaster, but instead of making her good, I would've made her chaotic neutral instead. After everything she went trough in Ledgerdomain and will go trough troughout the series, it makes sense that she goes nuts. However, especialy after this episode, she should've realized that having Gwen around does help her as well. I feel like she should've turned as nuts as she does in Omniverse, without the blind hatred towards Gwen

Addwaitya, considering how ancient he is, is likely a much earlier version of Galapagus's species, separated evolutionarily by billions of years. His species adapted to manipulate air far after he was born, this is why he lacks the vents, along with the various other smaller differences in his physiology, though much of those could come down to magic altering his body, something as major as the vents are absolutely due to evolution.

After Legerdomain was introduced I was really hoping for a return of Verdona. To see how an Annodite would react to a dimension of Mana/Magic. Was Legerdomain an Annodite version of the Null Void? Were Annodites escapees from Legerdomain? Stuff like that.
Side note - If Terraspin were to go 'Ultimate', how would that affect his External Mana Nullification ability?
So, my headcanon on Adwaitya (after rewatching this episode) is that he's an ancient earlier evolution of the genus Galapagus and Terraspin belong to, hence his different shell and arms. From before they evolved the trait to be immune to mana, hence Charmcaster hurting him with mana.
He was a prodigy in mana manipulation, much like Gwen in OS, and got to the point where he was revered by his people for using it for good. But on his last trip to ledgerdomain he gave in to the desire to rule ledgerdomain and never returned to Aldabra, which is why he's still held in high esteem by the Geochelone Aero, because they are unaware of his villainous nature. And he may have been responsible in some way for his species becoming invulnerable to mana.
No he's the same exact species but due to his constant interaction with magic it has warped his body as confirmed by Mcduffy

Okay I am REALLY excited for the Ledgerdomain From Beyond episode. Of all the potentially interesting areas the show had, this is one I was really curious about.
Personally I love that bit where Ben remembers what Aggregor wrote. Bits that show Ben as smart always are welcome for me^^
Also I admit I really like that she got her bag back here^^ And personally I prefer her with purple eyes. I also prefer her redeemed, and it really annoyed me that they flipped her back to evil in OV. Always hate character regression. And it's especially insulting when Ben upon seeing her again immediately calls her evil and distrust her - even though last time they saw one another they were on more ambiguous terms. Because fuck subtlty I guess.
Tbh ov turning charmcaster into insane was not charcter regression, ua gave enough reasons for charmcaster to turn insane in ov, but ov also hinted for charmcasters redemption in her last episode

I like to see Charmcaster as "the wildcard", much like Michael Morningstar (which I why I think they make a great couple). They are character which can work together with the Main Trio but also have their own objectives and could very well betray them at a moments notice. Having that tension whenever they team up is really fun, so I always enjoy the episodes where they appear, specially the ones in which they appear TOGETHER because their clashing personalities mean that they might want to betray each other too.
I just want to say thank you for this series and this channel. Even in fandoms with tons of content being made to this day compared to Ben 10, I feel like The Ink Tank has an appreciation for this series I’ve never seen with anything else. Would have never gotten back into Ben 10 if it weren’t for 5YL, and the amount of work you put into everything is amazing.
