  • Scriabin was born twentyfive years after Chopin died. This Nocturne is inspired by Chopin. Later in his life, Scriabins music became much more progressive. This nocturne was written at a time, where Scriabin suffered from an ilness in his right arm.

What a wonderful performance and what elegance in the touch! It can be over than eard, even seen! Chapeau! Rarely I heard anything more perfect than this! You are really blessed by the perfection of a very human and sensitive soul!

I think I read somewhere - possibly Faubion Bowers' bio - that he suffered an injury when practising Balakirev's Islamey.

Yeah, Scriabin was practicing Balakirev’s Islamey and Liszt’s Reminiscences de Don Juan when he injured his right hand and could only play with his left hand for I believe an entire month

Finally someone who doesn't overuse the pedal in this nocturne! I long for silence in this piece - an element that is all too often forgotten. It's not all about romance. There's introspection too. Dalsgaard could have even paused for silence in a few more key moments, but this is a vast improvement over most other uploaded recordings. Weissenberg's recording is superior as far as overall dramatic shape, but he too neglects silence.

Gorgeous legato, combined with exceptional pedaling and articulation. Did I notice that the piano is a Steinway model 'C'? If so, it must be an antique, and quite a nice, rich tembre. All round excellent video, good videography.

Thanks for your kind words. You are right, it is a Steinway C model, Hamburg, about thirty years old.

found the sheet music. The chords and broken arpeggios are fine; unfortunately I'm lacking the dexterity for the rubato sections in my left hand so I'm just listening to it on repeat instead.

Or, in afterthought, the piano might be a Hamburg Steinway, in which case it might be newer...I'd like to know.
