I'm a black man and married to black woman. My take is that our culture is really distracted and not taught to our younger generation, both men and women.

This is so true. There’s a constant competition going on, especially with mothers, but with women in general. I find myself sizing women up quite often. I also reflect on things that I see of them and around them extensively post interaction. I am very aware that there’s a competition happening and always have been. My mom taught me growing up that what other people make of you can change your life, and so I was taught to present well and to have extensive accolades and accomplishments to share with others. My mom cared about those things, and it’s embedded in me now.
No one won because life isn’t a competition.

Hmmm, i don't think it's about competition and here's why.....I am thinking, women as girls and teenagers have always been told what they could and could not do every since they were small say 5-6 years old. They have seen boys beeing able to stay out later then them, go more places than them, just about everything they were told they shouldn't or couldn't do, the boys were doing. And this progressively got worse as they and the boys grew up. Now fast forward to the day after graduation, which is typically when girls/young women look at themselves as grown, as adults. Now they or their girl friends tell themsevles I'm grown, now can't nobody tell me what to do. Not realizing what their parents were telling them was more so for their protection as we know the more promiscuous a women is the more negatively they are viewed which will likely minimize their chances of getting married, but you know what they don't care, its all about doing what they want because no one can tell them what to do any more. So they do whatever and dress however they feel irregardless of what people especially men think. This is why I feel women have this resentment of men and the patriarchy and why they call women pick mes who they feel are maintaining the patriarchy because boys/men have always had freedoms to do things they couldn't. So twerking and dressing scantily is the norm as this is their sign of "freedom". And this type of mentality often lasts into their 30,40, and sometimes 50. And for most women, if they are going to dress scantily, their body has to look good, this is where the BBLs come into play. So I don't think it's competition per say but more of an effort to let people now they can do whatever they want and to them the worse or more they do the more they are letting people know, no one can tell them what to do. Even if it's to their own detriment. I don't even think it's even for men as these types of women don't respect and most times don't like men.

But couples who have sons and daughters most likely have heard their daughters say their brother can do anything, but she is mostly likely regulated to staying home as one of their parents' biggest fear is their daughter getting pregnant in her teens.

Regarding #twerking: If aliens were objectively observing humans and didn't understand our verbal language, they would likely associate twerking with the body language & behaviour other animals exhibit when they are doing a #mating #call.
It is by this logic that l think twerking is a sexual mating call. Now, pertaining to how it's used(or abused) to meet other subconscious and emotional needs within the women doing it... that's more to do with psychology & coping mechanisms. Humans use sex/sexuality to cope with their internal deficiencies a lot, so it's not shocking or farfetched for humans to use their sexual mating call(twerking) as a coping mechanism for low self esteem and/or other internal issues people use attention to remedy...
Thus, my conclusion is that it's ultimately a sexual mating call that is sometimes used/misused, mostly unconsciously, as self medication for internal issues that people use attention to cope with.

I've been with my wife a total of 25 years and married 21 of those years and I had to pull my wife away from her hyena gf's also. Over the years especially in the beginning they always tried to encourage her to do all kind of outlandish Ish. Me being the man that I am I would always put my foot down on certain things that her friends wanted her to do and of course I was called controlling domineering. Around the 5th year mark in our marriage we came to a crossroads and almost didn't make it because she still had a few of her hyena friends insisting she go on a girl's trip. I made it clear to her that I have system, order and structure in place for a reason and if you allow outside influences influence you to disrupt that then I won't be here when you get back. Her dad explained to her that if your friends have more of an influence on you than your own husband then I wouldn't blame him for leaving. He told her that he has a standard and you being his wife he look to you to uphold and live by that standard.

Theirs a lot more to femininity than just being sweet and soft, there are premarrital, standards, morality decency, and Allah in her life. I lived in Miami. I'm 30 min away now. Beach life is different from suburb life here. People go to the beach and the art district to be seen. I must be cut from a different cloth cause idgaf. The men the twerk robots attract are the men I've always avoided. Had the ballers shot callers, and they're toxic, like 98% of them. You carry yourself with decorum, and you get different results. You can either be classy well spoken and twerk in the right establishments I guess 😂 or look like the fashion nova clearance rack and buss it for toddlers on the beach. It comes down to loving yourself, self respect, self assessment and reality. Ladies don't give into the hype.

So many great points! The goal of marriage is being downplayed by so many black women because they do not want to admit that they are just not attractive (personality wise) and have masculine energy that puts men off.
In high school, the girls who would be the first ones twerking at every party are now still single and still twerking nearly 20 years later. Femininity begins in early childhood. I am thankful my mother taught me better.
How can black women not exude some level of masculinity, when we are the only race where the women out-earn the men? And why should marriage be the goal, when it is a statistical fact that less than 30% of us will ever marry? I mean no disrespect or to be combative, just asking. I feel that marriage can be a beautiful thing, but there is no need to stress over marriage when the black divorce rate is 48%, according to Essence.❤️

You can earn more than your spouse and not have so much masculine energy. Statistics cannot be used only when convenient... 2 out of 3 black women are overweight and if statistics mattered, they would take preventative measures to not be so unhealthy. If so many black women want to stay masculine and single then that is on them... the rest of us just don't want to hear them complain when everything hits the fan.

Thank you for the statistics info. If including black male athletes, the men would absolutely be higher in income, average wise. But just driving though your average hood, it appears that it's the women who are driving and owning the nicer cars. Women are the head of households. Women are paying for the groceries, while the man watches her pay and pushes the cart. In your nearest hood, it is the men who are standing in front of the gas stations all day and night, not working. The women are at work, or in class. Take care.❤️
@caressaclark1042 the same community where majority of the kids fathers are in front of the gas stations. There is a whole neighborhood but majority of the women slept with the guys at the gas station but complain about the whole community.
The 1 thing women don't understand is from the moment a man meets you, he's mentally interviewing you to be his wife & quite frankly if you don't possess 4 major attributes the avg man won't touch you with a 10 foot poll:
1.) Decent cook that isn't afraid to serve her man.
2.) Dresses modestly and leaves the lingerie & short shorts for bedroom attire.
3.) Isn't extremely possesive and allows a man to be gone more than an hour out of her sight without being suspected of cheating

As a Muslima married with children from a previous marriage I scan vouch for the fact that women quietly compete against you for no apparent reason .Especially when you are a feminine woman with a husband in a stable marriage . It’s common for the modern woman to look down on the housewife or stay at home mom . I mean really !!!! I am African American who married at 21 so it’s seen as being strange in this country .

Competition between women, and men, has always been around. We compete to see who makes more money, has a larger house, and better car, more athletic children, and even a more attractive spouse. As a black man, I see a disturbing issue in our community as to the other things we compete in with each other, twerking being one of them. For younger men, I've seen bets made as to who can get the most women pregnant. Also, I've seen women accept the challenge, from other women, as to who can sleep with another woman's husband (who they both find attractive, and they both don't like this particular woman). The disturbing point I see as a common denominator, in our community, is that a lot of our "competitions" revolve around either sexuality or long-term destructive behavior, or both. Rarely do I see black people that live in "the hood" compete in life achievement goals, as the examples listed above, for themselves or their children. Only in the black community are men competing with women. Men are supposed to compete with other MEN! If you're competing with women, you are feminine. Men and women are not equal so there can be no natural competition. We desire different things. Women compete with other women.
Most women compete through subterfuge and sabotage. This is why so many women get betrayed by their sisters, friends, and co-workers who they confide in etc. For example when women hype up their girlfriends who wear things that don't flatter their body type under the guise of body positivity, self-confidence, and self-empowerment. In the corporate world I’ve seen how toxic and plain evil sone women can be. Hating on and making the life a living hell for other women (men too) for absolutely no good reason . As a wife of 33 years, from India, I do find this topic especially in America is truly deeper then many are aware of, as for the woman that choose to dance in a purposely seductive manner that's not the concern or the problem it's the man/husband who choose to engage with that negative toxic energy that should be addressed.

I can speak on this with some authority. I'm from where twerking was pretty much invented. Early 90s, New Orleans bounce music and twerking went hand in hand. It wasn't called twerking though. It was referred to as p popping. You haven't lived until you've been out in a club and see young women dressed nice, standing around looking cute but as soon as that beat comes on, you will see some of these same young women literally on the floor shaking their butts on all fours. It is definitely rooted in competition. It is definitely seeking attention. They're lying to themselves if they say it isn't. They aren't sitting around the house twerking with each other. They only do it for others to see, whether it be in a crowded club or posting it on the intenet. If "please look at me" was a dance, it would be twerking.

I can say competitively, who wins. As a single woman of 35, I'm not seeking out partnership. I'm not opposed to it but I'm seeing so many women around me file for divorce due to cheating and abuses. I think we all have to define our own happiness and ensure it within ourselves.
My sister told me about a year ago how she lives her children and husband and if she could go back and change things, she'd have none of them. She told me she wishes she had my freedom.
