- Watford reach their third ever Fa cup semi final with a 3-1 win at Highbury in March 1987.
The game was surrounded in some controversy because the appointed referee had sent off Watford goalkeeper (Tony Coton) in the corresponding league fixture earlier that season. Graham Taylor tried to get the FA to change the referee..but in hindsight he was probably glad that they dident because of him awarding Watford's third goal, having ignored a call from his linesman.
I'm an Arsenal fan and was at that game aged 9. Took fully 24 years to realise that, after all, it wasn't a penalty before Watford's third!
Fair play to Watford, great family club, would be great to see them back in the Premier again.
7 years later and were battling for Europe and in a fa cup semi final
Cheers Ian, nice comments.
I was there too but in my twenties, want to see Watford reach the FA cup final tomorrow against Wolves. Like all Watford fans, I'd love us to get there and win it for the memory of Graham Taylor.
COME ON YOU ORNS
those shorts! outstanding.
I was at that game, what a great memory. Happy days
I remember this match like it was yesterday; glorious sunny day at the Clock End, going mental when Barnesy headed in the second, the coins flying over from the Arsenal fans when Luther knocked in the third. Had my airhorn confiscated by the police but other than that, what a day...
great video, thanks for the upload!
I did have a chuckle to myself about the commentator..he's got about as much emotion in his voice as a speak your weight machine!
I think it must be from an official club video..they usualy have this type of commentary.
I was there. We were wetting ourselves when adams let luther run off on his own. Still, he made a career out of standing still with his arm up.
Those were the days when football was football, I was at that match and isn’t it great to see players tackle each other rather than constantly passing the ball. I watched a game not long ago and counted the passes before I saw a tackle, it was over 40 passes. Also those were the days where players went forward instead of constantly passing back lol. In today’s football you would have seen a few free kicks or penalties from this game. It would be great if players could play like that again because it would get rid of the fairies.
Fraid not..nearly all my clips are Watford related.
Funnily enough those two clubs played each other this very evening!
Who's the commentator Chumly Warner?
Damed fine cup tie old bean.
Yeah i went bit of a sickener last minute goal but thats football i guess.
Looking forward to my visit to Vicarage Road on saturday :D
It was probably rob brydon doing the commentating in one of his early jobs!
You haven't got a clip of the other Quarter final, Cov vs Sheff Wed have ya stevohorn?
@randomjrr1422 This was one of his last games for Watford. He joined Liverpool a few months later.
Sweet!!!!
what was the defender thinking at 0:35?
Just gifting the Gunners the lead so we could crush them after :)
As a Gooner i dont like this.
All footage of Arsenal losing should be distroyed.
Wasn't Barnes at Liverpool by 87?
Yes. That's why he's playing for Watford.
yes he left Watford on June 9 1987 to join Liverpool
