How times have changed..those cabs look so good with all the gizmos etc..i watched carry on cabbie last week...all open at the side where the cases go!.. great vid again...
I drove one of those Austin FX3 ,for 5yrs in the 1960s . No heating, cold draft coming through the luggage side window.No windscreen washers ,I had a plastic squeezy bottle that reached round and squirted the windscreen with.In those days I liked the cab ,I knew no different.

@@Marktaxi make sure you pay the parking otherwise you will get hit like i did new years eve took me nieghbour to Heathrow didnt charge her for droppimg of then went home and totally forgot cost me ...
Am I one of the only drivers that doesn't charge the drop off fee😅

Depends if the punter has the hump. I would usually have offered a couple of quid off
Well I’d actually stopped the meter! So I just carried on the journey heading west to Harrods. If you do stop the meter the time element of the journey is halted and only the distance is measured for some reason.
This will be todays lunchtime viewing in a couple of hours. Great stuff. I'm wandering if you say crazy cats in this one ? Lol.

@Marktaxi yes indeedy. I used to watch Tom the taxi driver. Since his tfl telling off his channel hasn't been the same so I don't watch it anymore. Would love asmr full journeys on the odd journey.

I live in Greenwich and I always take the A202 through Peckham. There's a bus lane almost all the way and if it's really bad, you can turn off left and take the small streets across to the A200.
(A202 from Vauxhall is New Camberwell Road, then Peckham Hifh Street and Queen's Road, you end up on the A2/New Cross Road and then you can take Greenwich High Road (30mph limit!))
Gotta be honest I hadn’t been down there for so long I put it in mapping just to see what it came up with, I’m always wary of not knowing the road closures and road works in an area I haven’t been to for months. Anyway it was nice to go back again
@@Marktaxi I'm fairly sure it's about a half mile further, but there's usually loads less traffic
I dont know if youve done this yet but it would be great to join a New York taxi driver for a day - it would be interesting to see the contrast - ' busman's holiday' ?

Love you videos Mark . I was a London taxi driver up until the pandemic and haven’t driven since . Your videos are giving me the itch to get back in the saddle . At least part time .
Any advice about road changes etc.
I went back after five years been driving again for nearly two years a lot has changed no left no right, new office blocks speed limit ect ,and I found the traffic is worse than before, good luck.

@@Marktaxi I had over a year off in the 80s , if I didn't know a new club in the evening I used to say I was a day driver,if I didn't know a new office block I would say I was usually a night driver.lol. It saved a lot of arguments
What do cabbies mean when they say comply by ... . Does that mean take the first exit, or go straight over?
It means turn or navigate as directed, definitely Heinz ketchup cabbies would go nuts if it wasn’t. Thanks for watching

Hi Mark. Glad to see you looking well. The "no flag" rule seems peculiar in light of what you said about the display of other "non UK" flags. Perhaps the new government will remedy that & etc... I had no idea how large the interior of the cab was until you showed it at the beginning.
Seats 6! Unlike 5 with the old tx. I jumped into a tx 4 last year and it felt tiny!

I can see why the taxi apps block you for not accepting jobs as there is nothing worse as a customer waiting and failing to get a ride booked. But could be worse, up in Glasgow no one accepts app jobs, they are too busy kerb crawling doing jobs off the meter for hugely inflated prices which I recently noticed after a sell out gig at Hampden Park.
@@ThatLeeNoble Accepting then cancelling is unacceptable. Not accepting a job that’s offered to you that’s 3 miles away with a drive in time of 20 minutes is acceptable, customers nearly always cancel if they have to wait over 3 minutes! And I don’t get paid fuel costs for driving to the customer. When I work off the street the customer is already there.

When you want to stretch the legs how easy is it to find a place to park in central
If you can get on a charger or a rest rank it’s fairly straight forward. Lots of options available. Green huts are really good to park up at, but make sure you buy something from them, it’s good to support these iconic shelters

True but much further away in the wrong direction, plus more expensive journey in cab when victoria is nearer

I used to work as a courtesy car driver for the Wimbledon tennis you can see their cars are out on the road now as Wimbledon is on ever consided it Mark mind it doesn't pay as much as your job of course

@@Marktaxi yes they been using Land rover for quite awhile now and Jaguar too one of the benefits is you get a pass for the grounds so can get to watch a lot of tennis
I retired 22yrs ago. Sloane Sq to Waterloo, Eaton Sq, Lwr Grosvenor Place , Buck Pal Rd , Birdcage Walk , Westminster Bridge , sorted. It's ridiculous what routes have to be taken now. So much for cutting down emissions.
Yep Eaton square is the way unfortunately the gas works have closed that off so I was forced through Pimlico. Thanks for watching

Your hands are often cleaner if they are washed regularly. Gloves often are worse as you can't clean them and are unlikely to change them regularly.
@@bigman5125 I worked in a sandwich shop when I was 16 and I had to change gloves every 20 minutes. It was what the manager wanted.

I don't use freenow much now because they think it's clever to keep blocking drivers for no reason, it's there choice, don't forget they work for us not the other way round.

I've been a cab driver for 32 years mark, I spent most of that time on the radio, dial a cab for over 25 years, freenow are rubbish getting taxi are not much better
