I saw other mechanics moving the seat forward and accessing the battery from behind the seat . Having to take the seat out didn’t seem right to me for simply replacing the battery! Update , I just removed my battery and absolutely did not have to remove the seat ! Move seat forward and battery recess is completely accessible.
Thanks for the detailed video! May I ask how you reset/recalibrated the new battery to the vehicle computer system once you were finished with the install? From what I understand it requires a special scanner tool.
Larry, those plugs you pulled out, are the connected to the SRS system of the car? , The reason why I am asking is because, my GLE 350 was on top of a car carrier that went over a bump, and the SRS Restraint Malfunction light came on, I'm trying to see if unplugging the negative terminal head for a few seconds will help to reset everything? Please will it help ? Cos I have done physical checks, everything was okay. The Error code is B1BC797, MY scanner can not reset it, because the car thought it was in a collision, which needs to be done my MB dealership, but they are very far from me. I saw online that removing the negative terminal of my battery might help to reset it, with your expertise will it ?
Im not confident that disconnecting the negative terminal will resolve the SRS light. Im pretty sure you will have to have a more dependable reset scanner to resolve the light. If you were local, we can try my. LOL. Best of luck!
Was the seat carpet easy to pull out, because it seemed like you skipped the video while trying to pull it out? Is it something a beginner can do carefully?
At the end you said you did everything pretty much in reverse order. Does that mean you connected the seat and the 6 ports, then lastly connect the negative terminal?
@@exam2300 thank you for confirming. I can see that terminal next to the air vent. I’m about to tackle this on my 2021 GLE 350. Can’t believe the battery already needs replacing!
@@michel_leblanc I think the most painful part is to make sure you disconnect the battery if you are going to disconnect the seat. Cause the last thing you want is to accidentally set off airbags...
I believe he means the main battery. You take the front two bolts off then move up seat to take back bolts. You should be able to remove the black air vent to get access to the the negative terminal. Then should d/c the terminal then unplug the seat connectors. Then remove the seat. This is my understanding and makes sense.
You are doing it the hard way. Having done this on the ‘09 and ‘17, there is no need to remove the seat. Raise the seat to maximum height and forward, slightly cut the carpet, then you can replace the battery. Also, attach a temporary battery to the jump points to avoid any memory loss.

I luv to see that happens on this model. Show me a video and I would love to learn magic.
certain years there's no way get out with the seat in
That is on 166 chassis easy with seat all the way foward. Up to 2019. 2020 and newer is 167 chassis. You have to unbolt the seat
Thanks Larry, Great video and very informative!
Would you please let us know where to find the OBD port on the GLE 2020?
Appreciate it.

I have a pretty good tool. So it wasn’t an issue for me. You might be able to find a local mechanic and help you reset if need.

@@chrisduru5747 fairly straight forward.. not too bad…

Yes, cause you can still access one of the the battery terminals with the seat back in place.

Is this the main battery ??? The manual says it's under the hood
This is a 2020 GLE350, it's not under the hood... lol
And also what power tool were you using please?
Milwaukee.
Will we be able to drive the vehicle if we needed to take it in somewhere to have it recalibrated? My concern is that it would not be drivable.
I literally had zero issues. The car started right up
Thanks! I appreciate your quick responses. Although you were able to start it right up, you still had to calibrate it after correct?
Actually Nop…
I think you have to if you disconnect the aux battery in the back
Do you have to do memory saver ?
I did not...
Thank you for the video. Do you know the location for the auxiliar battery? This is a pain.
Yes, in the passenger side,, basically the same spot. PIA for sure...
@@exam2300 Thanks.. I'm already crying :(

How do you reset the airbag after?
Your airbag light should not have come on. You need a app/software to reset.
@@exam2300 I did not unplug the battery first. An OBD II reader cleared it.
It happened to my gle as well. Now fishing for some scanner for rest the airbag light.
What scanner did you use for yours?

This is a 2020 and up. It is really apple and oranges... Trust me.. Not the first time to the rodeo. Thanks!
Excellent tips--thank you
Best video out here. Thank you sir!
Glad it was helpful!
Yes, you need a tool/scanner to reset the battery. I use xtool.
