    Electrical tape doesn't catch fire because it's used to prevent electrical fires. Good electricians will use that stuff on wire nuts, and electrical outlets to prevent shorts and contain sparks to prevent fires.

    • @JD-bd5uu
      @JD-bd5uu Год назад +7

      Not exactly. Electrician rant lol:
      Electrical tape helps to prevent short circuits by insulating the wires and preventing them from touching, and most definitely not rated to contain sparks. The tape is considered heat “resistant” under normal conditions, “electrical” conditions, up to about 200 degrees. A flame is much hotter than that.
      All manufacturer claims for their electrical products are for appropriate “electrical” conditions. Black tape as it’s commonly called in the field will most certainly burn. We only use products within their rating or get called on it by the inspectors. High temp wire, heat tape, plenum rated products, etc. are used regularly in their required “electrical” conditions.
      Electrical tape made of PVC may have a higher flash point than cloth based products, but is still flammable.

    It can be lit with a ferro rod but it does take some preparation, if you tear it into the smallest strips you can exposing the threads inside the tape and make a "nest" it will accept a spark. However it might take some practice to get it right and its not something you want to mess with in the moment, so a bic lighter in an exotac firesleeve ensures your lighter is protected and it could be wrapped with tape to have them together. Still excellent info for those that may not know, thanks for showing!

  • @maggiewagmore8778
    @maggiewagmore8778 Год назад +6

    I do many wraps of duct tape around a ferro rod to use as a handle, and multiple wraps around my lighter as well. I have had to use the tape on a couple of occasions and it works well, as you demonstrated. I stopped using bic lighters a few years ago, opting for a Zippo with a butane insert. Hot blue, directional flame, wind-resistant and much easier to get working after being submerged. I still carry a small BIC as backup but have never needed it.

    I am not surprised that electrical tape doesn't catch fire. Electrical tape is intended to cover up exposed electrical wire. If electrical wire starts to heat up for some reason, the last thing you'd want is for electrical tape to catch fire. This is why I think electrical tape is built like that.

Cloth based tapes such as Gorilla, can be torn easily across and along the tape, but Duct tape just stretches and has to be cut. Completely different products with different uses.

Thumbs and duct tape make humans what we are, well Gorilla tape is duct tape 2.0 in this humble user's opinion🙂.

    I have taped a few things with that stuff… it never came off. So if you plan on ever un taping said item don’t use that tape. 😂

    You can tear of thin strips of the gorilla tape and lite that with a ferro rod!
