上野ゲイタウンと「男娼の森」について紹介したいと思います。
上野エリアは都内では新宿二丁目に次ぐゲイタウンです。
上野公園には一時期、男娼がたむろしていた事で知られ、その事から「男娼の森」と呼ばれるようになりました。
現代に残る男色の歴史は、江戸時代の「陰間茶屋」から始まったと考えられている。
上野公園の整備と、美術館建設のため「男娼の森」の歴史に幕を閉じる事となりました。
本日の見所は、上野ゲイタウンとその歴史になります。

Today, I would like to introduce the Ueno Gay Town and "Forest of Male Prostitutes".
The Ueno area is known as the second largest gay community next to Shinjuku Nichome in Tokyo.
It is known that male prostitutes used to hang out in Ueno Park for a period of time, so it came to be called the "Forest of Male Prostitutes".
The history of male prostitutes that remains today is thought to have begun in the Edo period 'Kagema Teahouse'.
However, due to the maintenance of Ueno Park and the construction of museums, the history of the “Forest of Male Prostitutes” has come to an end.
Today's highlight will be Ueno Gay Town and its history.

A lot of Donald Ritchie's memoirs takes place in Ueno Park. It's a fun read.
Now do Yushima Tenjin, nearby, where a number of the kagema-jaya were located. (Not any more, I guess, but it was famous in late Edo.)
