I think the only reason it bothers me is that American shows based in America are all performed with American accents in the UK, and as this is a British show based on British history, it should be performed with British accents.
I don’t mind either. I think it’s a thing with what people are used to. If we’re going by historical accuracy, they wouldn’t have had the traditional British accent anyway. So let them do whatever they want- they sound fucking great! Also American audiences can be weirdly prejudiced against British accents sometimes (like not understanding them)- so I think it was a fine artistic decision.
I think songs like No Way and Get Down sound particularly good with the accents!! Idk if it's because their inspirations were American but it works so well
i really wish they had their own costumes. one of my favorite things was how *personal* everything about their costumes felt, even the swinging queens had their own costumes. the body type and personality played a HUGE role, and since everything is changed here (different queens completely) im sad they didnt get their own styles.
I feel like the only one really getting the short end of the stick with the original costumes is Anne Boleyn. I feel like the other actresses have similar body types to the original cast, but due to the height difference it makes her more of a childish cute than a sexually playful and promiscuous cute like it did for Millie O'Connell. Also keeping the original costumes is probably a tactic to help cement the musical and make the characters recognizable if fans were to dress up as them for conventions and whatnot. The original costumes are absolutely gorgeous and would certainly draw attention and if another congoer was to see one of the queens and they were like "Oh my God I love your cosplay where's the character from???" They could be like "I'm one of the queens from Six, a musical about Henry VIII's wives" and there's the potential for the costumes to pull in new fans if they become iconic

fizziestix it’s a musical. They don’t change the costumes because it’s not their own production. I don’t know if that makes sense or not, but if you look at shows like Spring Awakening and such, they’re sort of like rock operas, and they always use the same costumes cause it’s a show. I know SIX doesn’t seem like that but I think that’s why they have the same costumes.

(Disclaimer - I don’t know the exact details of the deals here), but a re-use of a previous design is typically cheaper than a complete re-design. It of course depends on the exact deal, but 2nd & 3rd “replica” productions are generally much cheaper to produce because they don’t bear the same amount of production costs as the original. Especially since Chicago Shakes is not one of the GIANT not-for-profits, financially it just makes more sense.

Part of me believes the songs sound better in a British accent. But also part of me knows they shouldn’t attempt to do it with a British accent because it is are so difficult to get right. They could never please everyone.

Just saw the performance Saturday night with my daughters. We loved the 6:00 show so much, we turned around and bought the remaining 3 tickets for the 8:30 show. Fabulous cast!! Loved everything about this!
tickets are first come first served so i mean 🤷♀️ they can watch it again if they enjoyed it, regardless if those tickets could’ve belonged to someone who didn’t watch the show already. it’s not selfish.

Not always. Matilda and Billy Elliot, just off the tip of my tongue, maintained the accents after coming over from London. And of course, Harry Potter. And Wicked usually adapts the accent of the country it's played in.

can i just say i LOVE that the video isnt zoomed in. every video ive seen on here did that and i couldnt see all the queens jump and move! all the slimes kept zooming in too so the choreography was half hidden. just very glad i could see this at least :)

I swear everyone leaving comments about the costumes knows nothing about West End/Broadway. They don’t change the costumes for every location...once the show is set, every version of the production is supposed to be the same. You don’t change it for every actor, that doesn’t make any sense.
I think its harder to fake a British accent than it is to fake an American accent, so im fine with them sounding American, even though in things like Hamilton they fake an American accent, it is easier but its harder to sound genuinely British for Americans

As someone not coming from an English speaking country I don’t really see how their accents are a problem ( I personally really have to concentrate to notice it when people sing) ... Can Americans really do an authentic British accent anyway ? If not it’s better they sing with their normal voice or else it would be a bit ridiculous. I swear everyone leaving comments about the costumes knows nothing about West End/Broadway. They don’t change the costumes for every location...once the show is set, every version of the production is supposed to be the same. You don’t change it for every actor, that doesn’t make any sense.
Some has minor alterations but concepts stays the same

I think its harder to fake a British accent than it is to fake an American accent, so im fine with them sounding American, even though in things like Hamilton they fake an American accent, it is easier but its harder to sound genuinely British for Americans

I think the girls did an amazing job but I just don't understand the accents. The west end cast of Hamilton perform with American accents so I don't get why a show about British history isn't done with British accents.
In the original cast they do have British accents because they are from there
NicolenaVlogs if they did British accents, people would complain about them not being authentic enough. It’s a lose/lose situation
3 of the queens aren’t British - So giving them all British accents wouldn’t be true anyways. x
I'm glad they didn't do the accent. Tbh if they did a British accent it could sound very fake and cringy. Besides after watching the Chicago megasix for like the millionth time you'll get used to it.
FloralHybrid in west end majority of the actors are british but have to do american accents if it's set in america
They're all so amazing! I feel like Boleyn is trying to be like Millie but I hope she'll find herself soon! I absolutely love this Parr but I do prefer the London cast ❤️

It sounds good but I’m not a big fan of the accents and personally I prefer the west end cast but still a great job they did themselves proud xo

As someone not coming from an English speaking country I don’t really see how their accents are a problem ( I personally really have to concentrate to notice it when people sing) ... Can Americans really do an authentic British accent anyway ? If not it’s better they sing with their normal voice or else it would be a bit ridiculous. Relax guys, enjoy their voices and performances, it’s cool enough that Six made it to the US !
