Very interesting history of Lepe and the surrounding area. We lost many men and women during WWII. I hope these areas are always preserved for future generations. Lest we forget.
Yes, walked Lepe many times and enjoyed the sea freshness. First visit would have been around 1958 by bicycle from Everton. Nothing has changed there, other than the large cafe and organised parking. Thanks Dave and whippet.
Thanks David. It is a great place to go for an explore for sure!

Thanks for the informative video, Dave. The last time I visited Lepe it was thick sea mist - couldn't see a thing! I never knew that all the D-Day equipment was there. You and Logan always court good weather on your walks - perhaps you should bring some with you to New Milton!
Used to go to Lepe a lot. In the 1950s the cafe was a metal hangar. When you bought tea, it actually came on a silver tray with teapot, cups and milk jug which you carried on to the beach. Fishermen used to dig for ragworms at liw tide then fish the tide in. My dad and his friends used to climb up and sit on the dolphins to fish.
Hello Dave, slowly going through all your films. Very helpful & informative. You probably already no of the only complete (Caisson) Mulberry Harbour sections in the UK I believe remaining , are here in Castletown, Portland Harbour. Towed here after WW2 and used as ‘Windbreaks’ beside Portlands (Queens Pier). 20 others were towed to Holland. They are an impressive sight close up and the original ‘tide line’ from their time submerged on the D Day beaches , is clear to see on the outside. 🙂🙂
Just visited here today because I came across this video. It was beautiful, an easy walk and a delightful way to celebrate my birthday. This is the 2nd place we have visited due to your videos and we have thoroughly enjoyed both of them. Looking forward to exploring more of them. Thanks you for posting such interesting and informative videos.
Glad you had a lovely walk on your birthday Heather. I hope that you get to enjoy some more walks from the series in the future (and that you get good weather as well!).
It was beautiful today but a tad windy. I'm all geared up now for more walks, ordnance survey map purchased and your videos offering lots of inspiration. Thank you.
You do pick some good weather for your walks. Must have been an early start. No wonder Logon was yawning at the beginning. I like Lepe, although there’s been a lot of changes in the past ten years. That cafe complex is around 4 years old and the car park up the top has been changed and modified. When I first visited the place in the 60s, it was totally unspoiled. A bit too commercialized for me nowadays. It was nice to be there with you and Logon. Thank you.
I found the "D-Day remains" at the Eastern end of the beach quite fascinating to explore. Yes..we were lucky with the weather as it was glorious sitting in the sunshine at the start.
Just a bit of 'add on' info Dave , at the start you are being filmed on bench seat opposite the coastguard cottages, You might be interested to know that the bench is to commemerate the life of Joe Spedding , boatman a fantastic fisherman, countryman , diver, bon vivant , Seagull Island warden and storyteller ! ( and my favorite uncle ! ) He lived in the coastguard cottages and is sorely missed.
he's spot on about the fish finger sandwiches! To support Lepe Country Park and nature reserve; for only £5.00 per year join 'Friends of Lepe' - enquire at Lepe reception in the Lookout restaurant

Seeing all of the "WW2 remains" is certainly a poignant reminder of those sad times . Thanks for watching.
thanks Dave and Logan for your walk on lepe beach brought back many memories of my mother taking down to the beach swimming when I was much younger
Thank you Anthony. :)

Thank you. We are planning on filming a walk near New Milton later this year!

Thank you Helen. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
Going there shortly. Is there public transport from Southampton via train or bus
@@HelenHetherington-kh8gj I believe that there is a bus service from Southampton to Langley (which is about a mile North of Lepe).

Thank you Peter. Yes, I have seen those sections at Portland. I hope to do a walk around the "Northern" part of Portland some time in 2024.

I live 2.5 miles from here and have hiked this many times, the Look Out Cafe has only been there about 2yrs now
It is certainly a lovely spot
Really interesting and well made video. Wayne.
Thank you.:)

Thanks so much for the info Mike. Great to have that extra background history. Certainly a lovely spot to celebrate your Uncle's memory.
@@DaveFord I'm at No.1 and have a conversation each evening with Joe. Wonderful.
@@judyshelley6638 What a smashing place to live. Thanks for watching.
Really enjoyed this video and visiting this weekend. May I ask you how you get to the coastguard cottages from the car park? Thank you
The coastguard cottages are just along the tarmac road to the West of the car park.

They were delicious!
Not that impressed with Lepe, too commercialised. Prefer Calshot which is a ten minute drive away.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and indeed thanks for watching.
