I did and I subscribed. Now lets have a detailed lesson on the solo in this song, as It's one of the best he ever did. I haven't heard a good you tube transcriptions of it I don't think.
1984 was the first album I ever bought. I always loved the tone of Eddies guitar on the intro on this one and the remainder of the song is essentially a typical Ed solo. As always, nicely done!!
Ok, this is right up there with your usual spot on EVH. As always, I am thoroughly impressed. But dude, you have a full size stand up arcade style Missile Command. That was my favorite arcade game going back to late 70's early 80's. Well done.
i really enjoyed that outro solo a lot! and i observed the difference, before you indicated it, and i appreciate you capturing the vibe . cheers. subbed
OH, Missle Command! .. had that baby on Atari back in the 80s. This is my SECOND favorite track on 1984 with it's nasty, complex ZZ vibe (as you mentioned). Holy Hell. And so .. Girl Gone Bad is my FAVORITE. I can still play the intro .. if you also enjoy dark-sounding genius, try White Lion - Lonely Nights .. you're killing this whole thing, Mister ..
Rod, you're killing me man! I'm so totally blown away with each and every video you release they are all perfect. After seeing so many guitarists play this one wrong especially, its refreshing to see you knock it outta the park. You obviously took no shortcuts getting the accuracy down. I've been playing around with the TopJimmy profiles trying to get close to you're tones but haven't been able to get close to what you've got. The tone is just as accurate as the playing and I'm dying to be able to try it myself lol. Any tips on how you dialed it in? Am I even right in assuming you used the TopJimmy base tone? Thanks man, keep up the great work, I'm subscribed and waiting for more!!
Did you flip one of your pickups? I want to do that to mine but not sure if it'll screw anything up. Also it's nice to see this tune have a bit of a revival. I always thought it was one their most underrated.
No, the pickups aren't flipped. They are different pickups. I replaced the factor ones with Pariah Pasadena Whites. Yes, Drop Dead Legs is great. The whole 1984 album is Eddie's masterpiece.
Just a dude that used to play in bands on a small scale. Nothing big. I just love to play music. I do have several original songs on the channel though.
Thanks for listening! I do not create tabs and I do learn it by ear. I've been playing Ed for years so I know a lot of where he likes to play things so it makes it easier now.
Ok that’s me subscribed!!!!! Which profile did you use? I have the Top Jimmy profiles and they don’t come close? Maybe it’s the guitar I use? Any How . Absolutely stunning performance Brother. You absolutely pinned it. I ain’t blowing smoke. Fantastic maestro seriously 🤘 🤘
Thanks Jonathan! There is so much that goes into getting that tone. Here are some tips for that might be useful to you... The profile I use is a modified version of the TopJimi VH 1984 profile. I use that profile for the base sound then add a lot more reverb (core to the VH sound), a micropitch effect from the Kemper with about 6.7 cents. You also need a good PAF pickup. I don't think you can come close with any other pickup. I use the Pariah Pasadena "White." They custom make them for you and Sean is a great dude. The Legacy Reverb. Mix = 49.3% Delay Time = 1.270s Room Size = Hall Predelay = 200ms This Mix amount really depends on the song. For example, AFU has 54% while Summer Nights had 25%. Other than that I don't double track the guitar but I do copy the track, split it left and right and offset one side by 32ms. Doing this will give the guitar sound way more depth and a bit more presence.
@@TheRetroGuitarist Thank you for such a detailed reply dude. I knew there was something really missing. I use the Luke 2 BFR guitar. It’s Awesome for warm dry tones but sucks when I am trying to find another tone. Your tips on modifying the top Jimmy 1984 profile I will take a look at. If I can get somewhere close to your tone I will be more than happy. I really appreciate you getting back to me maestro. Thank you 🙏
I've been watching a lot of your videos and I have to say that you nail Eddie's tone than anyone I have ever seen RUclips. I just recently got a Kemper and was curious how are you getting these tones?

@@stevedahl Sorry for the delayed response. I do Steve. The Wolfgangs are just too muddy. They don't have that clarity that you need for the early VH stuff.
@@stevedahl I have the Pasadena White in both positions. Be sure to tell them they are going into the EVH though. Otherwise they won't fit and you'll have to sand them down like I did.
Hit that thumbs up for Van Halen!!

I remember us sitting in the cul-de-sac listening the 1984 intro over and over again. That and the beginning to Money for Nothing. Good times.
I got this record also as one of the first records I bought. Back in 7th grade. Life changer.
Love the outro solo. You caught EVs spirit! And as always I love the written vignettes!
I think EVH is looking down and giving us his little smirk. Because that my friend was awesome. That calls for EVH stripped badge
Thanks Brian!
Best Outro ever.
Gosh this is just outstanding. You are NAILING Ed at the height of his powers. BLOWN AWAY.
Thanks for the kind words. 1984 was the height of his creative powers. He was one of a kind.
Man that was so smooth, makes my work day a whole lot better!
Thanks Anthony! A little VH will always make the work day better! :-)
Hats off to you brother.Amazing🤘🏻
Thanks ✌️
You absolutely did what you set out to do ❤️ Captured a little bit of Eddie right there.
Thank you! 😊
Jesus dude. You just kill it.

Thanks Jimmy! I have about 15 other VH songs and I'm trying to release another one each week.
Great soloing at the end. You nailed Ed's vibe with all those licks. Superb stuff man
Thanks!
Nicely done!! 🤘
Felt a lil Reb Beach vibe in that outro solo amigo. Rad!
Thanks! Speaking of Winger. I need to do some of their stuff too!
Excellent job brah! Great tone match and feel for sure!
Thanks Greg!
Great cover!! Excellent chops!! Thanks for sharing!! Rock on!!
Thanks Daniel!
Sounds great. I enjoyed the entire song. Thanks for sharing the jams.

Thanks again Mark!
Sounds spot on!
Thanks Brad!
Excellent buddy. Love the VH. You have new sub.
Thanks Rod!
First time I have seen one of your covers! This is awesome great cover off to see more of your work!
Thanks Ant! I appreciate you checking them out. Let me know what you think!
Nice take on the outro solo. I'm sure Eddie never played it the same way twice.
Thanks Karl. I wasn't sure about doing since all the other covers I do was what Eddie played. Glad you liked it!
You're playing that outro groove completely differently and damn it you know what? Ha, I like it better. It rolls so nicely.
Killer.
Thanks again Bryan!
SAVAGE bro
