I was a point contact fighter and Benny The Jet got me interested in PKA Kick boxing. I get beat up by boxer crossing into kick boxing. That experience led me to study boxing and I became a Golden Glove Champion.
Mr. Urquidez is the BEST kick boxer America has ever produced. He had beaten the best kick boxers (Muay Thai rules) in Japan in the 70's and 80's. He was also a LEGEND in Thailand.
i know im asking the wrong place but does any of you know of a tool to get back into an instagram account? I was stupid lost my login password. I appreciate any assistance you can give me
@Ian Jadiel I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and Im trying it out atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I did a seminar with Benny. He was such a well spoken, gentle, spiritual and humble person. Such a Legend. Even at his age, his strength, speed and technique was amazing. His knowledge and teaching style is fantastic. I was so impressed in only just that meeting. If he taught in Australia, i would definitely be a student. Dan Inosanto.. I really hope to meet one day. He's a living martial art encyclopedia. A true scholar of the combative arts. A legend beyond his ties to Bruce Lee.
They both were training in Kenpo under Ed Parker back before he brought in Bruce Lee. Dan was teaching Benny then. I was a student of Ed Parker and Joe Lewis.
Wow what a great video, I could listen to these two masters talk all day long. It is not everyday you get the opportunity to hear these kinds of stories from Martial Arts legends who are so loved and respected. I love the six "S" teaching, which is what one needs to be a champion. 1) Strength, 2) Speed, 3) Stamina, 4) Skill, 5) Strategy and 6) Spirt. As Guru Dan Inosanto said, Benny the Jet has all six! That is for sure Sensei Benny is a true warrior! I love seeing what respect they have for each other. Thank you for capturing this historic moment and thanks for sharing on RUclips!
Gentlemans your generation and particulary your group gave martial arts for the rest of us includin ofcoz we later generations. Its a pity we youngers dont ever get to witness those ground bracking moments where you evolved the arts to suit modern day. It is priceless that you do at least these conversations where we get to hear your insights and your memories. Hurrah to you sensei benny and danny and thank you
Benny Urquidez, probably the greatest proven all round kickboxer using any rules, the world produced. But also, one of the greatest gentlemen around in the martial arts.
Two wonderful Martial Artists reminiscing. Awesome video. Proof positive that the fighting arts are for the betterment of the human condition. What wonderful people. Salute
I've always refered to 3 persons of martial arts, Bruce lee, Benny and Dan Innosanto. Watching this 2 masters chat is so great. These are the kind i would seek advice on martial arts.
precious walk back among giants of Martial Arts....proud to know who these men were back in the day (for me it was in the 70's in New Zealand!) and lovely to see nothings changed.
I love these two dudes! They helped pave the way for what is now called MMA. Bruce Lee's philosophy was to keep learning by studying "Multiple Martial Arts" today's MMA and not get caught up in any particular style..
Inosa tos kissing 80 here and he's still training. What an inspiration. And he still has all his marbles. As for Benny, he's my hero. The first time I saw him fight was when he fought Dana Goodson. I was so impressed that this little guy could beat up this big guy it made me wanna study karate.
it's really odd to see that these people grew up with no internet and the world seemed a treasure chest where there always something new to explore.....the exposure to knowledge in this age has really changed everything
Two of the actual GOATs...now to dipshit whispering near the mic...shut up and let us listen. These two men are treasures of the martial arts world an have helped a lot of people within even the action movie genre over the years.
He was relentless. Such a combination of toughness and skill. Pure pleasure to watch. And luckily, he's super intelligent and insightful. He's a true Sensei with his ability to communicate what his skills consisted of.
How the hell could you get two guys like this together and NOT mic both of them....Awesome video but just sayin' this is like once in a lifetime and I want to hear their every word without distortion/echo...lol...thanks for the upload just the same
I couldn't agree more with Dan. Benny would have been a force to be rekon with if he would have been Born when UFC came around. No doubt about it. In addition Don Wilson would have also been up there with Benny have they competed in UFC.
Terrific footage to have found and see. Hearing Benny and Dan tell us how it was before the UFC. Benny looked like he lost a lot of weight. Was he sick or just older? Don't know how old he was in this video. Dan said he was 79 here. Hasn't changed that much. Pretty much the same build. I liked how they were very respectful of each other. That they weren't prima donnas. Benny was also very gracious. Saying how DI "inspired him". Which I think was a stretch. Just being a good guy. While Dan Innosanta is a very accomplished "martial artist"...Benny I think is the total package. Great martial artist but with actual ring experience. Winning kickboxing fights anywhere. Meeting any one. And winning. There's things you can only learn in the ring. Don't need to be a fighter to know that. And they're both humble.
As i know benny was really experienced and dangerous fighter because he fought professionally and won matches of the world in comparison with fathers of mma...
Yes, two legends! But Dan Inosanto was overshadowed by his Master Bruce Lee. Benny the Jet Urquidez, I believe is d greatest Western kickboxer of all time.
These two giants deserve professional Camera men, two cameras, closeups etc. You don't set yourself up as videographers unless you can do the same job as a newscast interview with better lighting, closeups, individual mikes and certainly no whispering and fiddling!
two legends just right there, i think martial arts is at a very exciting stage, because it is the IN thing now to cross train and incorporate different styles and methods, to enhance your martials arts abilities as a whole and lets be honest BRUCE lee completely encouraged this well over 40 years ago when everyone was saying oh my style is better than yours blah ,blah, its because of bruce lee that martial arts is so huge right now.
Interesting hearing two of the biggest names in American martial arts. "Legends". Though I'd give that more to Benny as he was a fighter. World champion. Dan's been around and studied with so many great masters. I like how there's mutual respect between them. No "I'm better than you attitude". Interesting Benny survived so many fights. Doesn't appear damaged. Able to have a conversation and teach. Others would have been damaged too severely. Slurred speech. Health problems from the internal injuries. Many have died (Thai Muay Thai guys...never talked about). Takes but one clean blow to the head to forever change one's life.
I think Bruce would have loved to had met Benny just imagine that, benny was a great fan of Bruce lee and like many other legendary pro,s believes bruce was the best.
When I was growing up, Bruce Lee and Benny Urquidez were my heros. I am happy to see Benny passing on his art and his skills to the younger generation. At 5:17, Benny mentions the Gracies coming in and challenging everybody, Gene, myself, everybody. I wonder if he accepted the challenge and if there is any footage. That would have been a really interesting video. Also, off topic, I was sitting in the Detroit Aiport and I saw Guru Inosanto getting off the plane and was thrilled just to have seen him. Then I tapped the guy next to me and said, "Hey, that's Dan Inosanto!" and they guy said, "Who?" All I could do was sigh.
Benny went back and forth about fighting Royce but would never commit. Would have been interesting but he was alot older, maybe he should have fought Rorion.
7:47 I can’t believe he said he does Muay Thai still instead of kickboxing. Also, I remember Brandon Lee practiced Muay Thai in his mid and late 20’s. I personally get why he does Cambodian Kickboxing because lol it was the cheapest kickboxing gym around I could find, and they had the cheapest boxing membership around too… I love Cambodian kickboxing Pradal Serey, they use more elbows than Muay Thai, and I love how a shorter person can hurt a bigger person with an elbow. But a great kickboxing champ with boxing experience beats a pure Muay Thai fighter. For instance my favorite or second favorite Muay Thai fighter: Samart Payakaroon. My fave might be my acquaintance Carter Williams.
For those who believe that Bruce Lee was just an actor cuz he hadn't fights in competitions... Doesn't matter if he s not envolved at tournament or belts he would destroy everyone at every weight and every class for the 3 reasons and may more I will tell now One, Bruce Lee was too fast and had tremendous power despite his lil size. He could probably knock you out with one hit or two. Two, Bruce was very intelligent and way ahead of his time. He discovered alot of things that were uncommon in his time. He knew where to hit, where to position his body, how to hit, how to move, where to move, etc. For example, he’d drop his lead hand slightly only to explosively jab you where you’re not looking. Most fighters aren’t smart. They’re just gutsy. They slug attacks until one lands. There’s little to no strategy in the martial arts world. Three, Bruce was very adaptable. He questioned most martial arts. He got rid of flashy techniques and rigid styles. He developed his own unique evolving art. He took the techniques that worked for him and modified them. He took principles of different arts, simplified, and applied them. He was constantly experimenting and improving. He didn’t fight for sport. He fought in a no rules environment. Most martial artists don’t question their systems. They just take a set style like kickboxing or Wing Chun, assume it works, and leave it at that. They don’t like to think or step out of their comfort zones. They’re not as creative and as versatile as Bruce. That’s why Bruce is so talented. He didn’t care how big you were, how strong you were, how tough you were, etc. He had the knowledge of scientific street-fighting and that’s what made him such a rare individual. I’ve yet to see one fighter who could match Bruce Lee.
When I see all those crazy shares on youtube, all these dialogues of legends of martial arts, but also music, cinema, cartoons, video games... I ask myself why God made a day to last only 24 hours. There is so many wonderful things to see, hear, feel and learn. Really too many. It's beautiful but it's also frustrating.
I have taken a few workshops with Guro Dan always an inspiration .Also followed the Jet he was knocking folks out! At 61 with bad hip I still bang and roll, keeping the skills sharp lol!
No joke, that never even crossed my mind, until now. The Thais really try to break the leg on every low kick don’t they? That is a fantastic perfect technique. People move their head but they never move their body and you can literally break somebody’s leg with one kick, one strike, and end the fight. that’s what I’m talking about.
5:41 and yet 20 years before ufc 1 the tao of jkd has striking/grappling/wrestling. Just like with modern mma, Lee describes a well rounded fighter, mixing styles

Two genuine tough guys.
But underneath they're actually super nice and gentlemen's.
Other way around
You can be a gentleman when you can kick everybody’s address
I was a point contact fighter and Benny The Jet got me interested in PKA Kick boxing. I get beat up by boxer crossing into kick boxing. That experience led me to study boxing and I became a Golden Glove Champion.
@Robert Green Then he woke up!
Mr. Urquidez is the BEST kick boxer America has ever produced. He had beaten the best kick boxers (Muay Thai rules) in Japan in the 70's and 80's. He was also a LEGEND in Thailand.
my only regret is I COULD ONLY LIKE THIS ONCE!
I love the interaction between these guys. Both so humble and respectful of each other. Thank you for sharing this.
The jet is so respectful of Dan...calling him Sensei.
i know im asking the wrong place but does any of you know of a tool to get back into an instagram account?

@Santana Mordechai instablaster =)
@Ian Jadiel I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and Im trying it out atm.

@Ian Jadiel It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thank you so much, you saved my ass !
@Santana Mordechai No problem :D

They both were training in Kenpo under Ed Parker back before he brought in Bruce Lee. Dan was teaching Benny then. I was a student of Ed Parker and Joe Lewis.
You're super lucky...
Both legends.... Jet, an absolute warrior....⚔️
Benny you are a totally sane person very rare in fighters no ego or show off, you are spiritual warriors

Benny Urquidez, probably the greatest proven all round kickboxer using any rules, the world produced. But also, one of the greatest gentlemen around in the martial arts.
Superfoot!!!
2 respected and admired Legends. Its an honor and a treat to hear them tell their stories. Both of their lives would make great movies.

A conversation between the two greatest legends. awesome👊👊👊
You could how tell much respect Dan had for Benny as fighter
It would be hard not to, if your honest :)
This WAS a great conversation. Thanks for posting! Like he said in the end they talked about not that they heard or read, but what they've DONE!

Benny the Jet to me was the Roberto Duran of contact Karate.......amazing fighter....wow.
He was relentless. Such a combination of toughness and skill. Pure pleasure to watch. And luckily, he's super intelligent and insightful. He's a true Sensei with his ability to communicate what his skills consisted of.
Sooo Awesome to see 2 Live Legends in Martial Arts and have a conversation and show so much Respect for each other.
These guys are true masters, very humble about their skills and very respectful towards each other in their compliments.
I can't say which one is my favorite between those 2 legends.
Fist Bump, Gentlemen. Thank you for your marvelous contributions.
Met Sifu Dan Inosanto and Sifu Benny a few times and they’re both brilliant men and incredible teachers and trailblazers 🙏
Two greats...such humility....Respect!! and I just heard Guru Dan say "I am 79 now"!!!

Fascinating interview. Excellent job.
Two truly greats in the world of martial arts. Very class acts as well. Thanks so much for sharing!
I couldn't agree more with Dan. Benny would have been a force to be rekon with if he would have been Born when UFC came around. No doubt about it. In addition Don Wilson would have also been up there with Benny have they competed in UFC.
Joe Lewis would have been a monster too .
I think Bill Wallace would have done extremely well too. He was a fantastic kickboxer who had wrestling and Judo in his background.
Love listening to these two exemplary gentlemen. Their respect is refreshing. Would love to hear more!
How could 11 people dislike this? Obviously they do not embody any of the principles discussed here.
Total Respect, two LEGENDS in differing ways, Brill chat.
Two of my heroes
Good to see Uncle Dan and Uncle Benny kicking it!!! A lot wisdom there youngsters.......SUCK IT UP!!!!!
79 may God bless you with more years.
LEGENDS - The Warrior and The Master Sifu

You know a guy is a badass when his shoes are practically spotless, brand new and yet the soles are completely worn down flat.
learnt a few gems from both these guys videos back in my JKD days
Man... Love these guys
legends. period.
🙌 May God bless all of you

Thanks, what an inspiring discussion!
