I never understand this. If you have been in an area for 30+ years, your home should be paid for. If you are just responsible for property taxes and home insurance you should not have an issue even with inflation. I'm just saying. My parents are from a 3rd world country and were able to make it in the U.S., so the residents of this country should not be having this issue.

And being from a 3rd world country and your comment proves that you truly know nothing about how Black Americans have been treated in the USA. I see all the people hanging out in front of the corner store and I guess this is the rich culture and history that people talk about. People want streets and drainage and good schools but the ward does not contribute enough to maintain the neighborhood, schools, streets etc. They're not taking these people's property, they are buying them and helping the neighborhood financially with tax dollars but for reason people want to keep it a crime ridden dump and expect to maintain the area. We ended up buying a house in 3rd ward in 2020 and absolutely love it!
If you have money and you choose to live in Houston, you are asking for everything you get. Thousands of criminals out on bond walking among you, and half of you people don't even carry a weapon. Oh well, Darwin's theory at work. I live about 3 hour Northwest of you and we don't have those "cultural" issues.
Does it flood there?
Most of third ward does not flood. There are some parts that are closer to the Bayou that are in the flood zone and have previously flooded.
I remember spending a couple of summers in 3rd Ward with my cousins, no gunfire but plenty of tussles, the folks in 3rd were good people and I enjoyed my summers down yonder when I was a kid
In the area where I live there were a lot of abandoned houses that were torn down and a lot of empty lots standing . There are still quite a few abandoned houses left that will probably be torn down. Most likely these lots are going to have condo's, townhouses and apartment buildings built on them. Ownership of single detached house will be thing of the past for certain income level citizens in certain areas.
Yup , in the 5th ward near Frenchys all the empty lots have been cleared and made into those 3 story homes
good for them. progress is being made to clean the place up
Have you ever lived in a "nice" suburban area? You don't want to live next to near poverty folks because they try to bring their ways wherever they go. These people leave the ghetto and move to nicer areas and still behave the same way. Don't keep up their yards, throw trash everywhere etc..
@@DIVISIONINCISION u r right. I remember an old saying by the older generation when I was a kid "u can take them out of the ghetto but u can't take the ghetto out of them".
@@tc539 clean up what?? My family and myself were and are hard working people. So a good few get pushed out by the useless ghetto trash???

They’ll be $800k before you know. Small minded folks don’t think. Like you. It’s going to happen regardless of what you want.

@Hunter Bidens Laptop 💻 was being sarcastic 😂 you know how people are today 🥴
This is sad. I grew up in a ver low income area in another state but left there and done well for mysel. However, those who have no sympathy or understanding of how these people will become homeless will soon become the ones who will be the example as well. Everybody eventually has their turn when greed and selfishness is what they sew. Remember that way of thinking when you can’t pay a bill, buy food, or have one thing after another happen that may not be pleasant for you. Just wait. It’s coming. It only takes a snap for material success to be taken.
I come into agreement with you on this. May a curse fall upon every greedy investor who has used his wealth to push the poor from their homes. He will fall into need one day, he'll fall onto troubles his money cant buy him out of, and none shall have pity on him. You reap what you sew.
All Well And Very True!! But Those Type Don't Care Black Hearted People Only Care What Benefits Them!! Not Others And Don't Care How Or Who They Hurt Or Step On To Get What They Want!! But Karma Does Know Everyone's Address And It Won't Hesitate To Drop By And Pay An Unexpected Visit!! 😁
They won't be homeless. They selling those old houses for a whole lot of money and buying new ones in the burbs in better neighborhoods.
Ain't nobody on that bs in a land of white supremacy. Do you kid and don't worry about others
I’m White and live in NJ. My rent went from $1,000/month to $2000/month not including utilities. I’m completely priced out of the state…..
I Love how you are bringing the obvious of what's happen to me and a lot of other families and single people and the elderly. I am in my golden years trying to work two jobs and still not making a dent. I have only my self and some family and my dignity....I am still fighting these high prices on food, gas and housing. What if anything can be done that's not pertaining to a WAIT LIST.....I am tired of waiting for basic nessiceties and needs.😑
It’s the same neighborhood where the kids from U of H & TSU are still trying to learn
Yes, exactly so whitey needs to buy land in whitey's hood.
Those townhomes are so ugly, poorly made, overpriced, and ruin the skyline. It’d be nice if developers built moderately sized homes at affordable prices, but we know that’s not gonna happen.
The same thing is going on in Acres Homes, Acres Homes was always known for rural like living, horseback riding, trail riders, with big lots, and everyone knew our neighbors by their last name. Now they coming in, building all these condos, and we don't know who lives next door to us anymore. SMH
Oh yeah alot of History there . Drugs , prostitution, killings and crack use

Making it better for who??? 😝 fooling ppls

Sheila Jackson Lee District. Need to be held accountable or VOTED out of office.
Damn.
Family members need to try to keep the properties.
She said-Give me that money. There’s your problem right there. The welfare and sense of entitlement and victim mentality
A Yates
A lot of people in that area never got out of the trap of paying rent; therefore they never became property owners because I bet they never thought they’d stay that long.
Time has a way of sneaking up on you and before you know it, you’re old with nowhere to go. 🥲🥲🥲
And being from a 3rd world country and your comment proves that you truly know nothing about how Black Americans have been treated in the USA. You need to learn the truth about how Black Americans built the country due to slavery and never received payment for that work and how they have been kept down on purpose throughout the years. It may seem cut and dry to you but there is more to the story. Don't you dare look down your nose at these people until you understand the bigger picture on how they have been treated for over 400 years!

That can be said for other poor people as well. Many are trapped in low income areas; such as trailer parks and subsidized housing also, as you put it due to a lack of skills and “ reckless procreation”
Honestly Houston gotten worse since hurricane Katrina
The crime rate goes up when New Orleans is in the building
Does anybody remember when the montrose area was for junkies…and what ever happened to soul food…those were the daze…
There should be laws to keep developers out. Also, city commissioners are responsible for encouraging 'economic growth' instead of protecting established residents.
And keep crackheads in?
You can buy a house all day but can you afford the rising property taxes? Get real people
They are trying to push me out after 18 years owning my home. The taxes, insurance, and constant harassment from the HOA is absolutely insufferable. And top that off with a postcard from an investor every day offering cash to buy me out. It’s really tiresome and stressful. I am completely bled dry.
😢
this is happening everywhere, even in the suburbs... nothing new here.
Have to get rid of that mayor
Pricing people out. SAD!
You know they say..When you make it out of the hood..you should give back to the hood. This is why.. Money Talks.
YES! And people don’t wanna do that! People making money these days want instant gratification, nice car, nice house, nice clothes. Investing in something for the good of the greater - foreign concept.
It needs to get taken over by nicer properties. It has been run down for decades and since the community has done little to make it better, others have to come in and make it better. It's a shame as well as it borders the University of Houston and has TSU and Jack Yates High School in the middle of it.
This is happening in FL everywhere
Not my Florida 😢
Truckers passing through Houston
WHY IS GEORGE FLOYD PROPPED UP LIKE JESUS IN THE HOOD....
NO WAY I WOULD BUY AND LIVE THERE!!!!!!!!
Third ward what is the name of the prison system this is and what state
We've lost. The out of towners have robbed us blind. I've lost two homes due to these new lofts that are going up all around Houston.
The culture of a neighborhood is not the past but hope of a prosperous future.
Crime rate make the property value go down. People come buy it cheap and raise the rent. Every thing going up but the minimum wage

Stop renting own your home black people. The way we are red lined in New Orleans. Detroit. Baltimore etc the last thing we should be doing is renting.
I'm from Detroit and Redlining has been happening for a very long time. But the key is being smart. Taxes is what pushes black people out of their neighborhood. I bought a home in Houston and own several homes and lots in Detroit. I purchased vacant lots abandoned homes. The key is for you to buy your neighborhood. I get calls all day long about buying my property in Detroit. You have to be the first to purchase the land next to you. You can't stop gentrification but you can surely buy in your own backyard. Learn about tax exemptions and tax credits, etc. Stay on top of your business and dispute your taxes.
You don't own a home you can't pay taxes on
"This where George Floyd come up at"? He said that like it was impressive 🤣🤣🤣

Listen you don't need to stop being fooled this is Sheila Jackson Lee's area this is her doing she is the one that pulls in these people to build this is why this place is never gotten built up in the past she has kept it down she has not cared. And now she's found a way to make some money
This is partially caused by the nearby Dynamo Stadium and the expansion of UH.
When she say they she talkin bout white folk
Of course she is. In particular bigots and white supremacists like you and so what!!
Yup
It's a developers dream to take advantage while most things are at a stand still. Trust me, they're paying close attention to delinquent tax payers.
Yes they are....every day.
Why is it always condos and never homes
Ok my question is who is renting and buying these homes?
Probably like the 8th ward in the D.C. area.
This is what happens when we let investors from California and New York come to Houston
And I thought where I live is bad that is why I bought a house on a hill the road is 30 ft below the foundation
Greed, greed, greed. Greed trumps humanity.

Well it is racist not to allow other races into your community. NOT FAIR
This isn’t a race issue- this is an economic issue,.. that happens to affect those who didn’t buy or own their home. Life is about change anyways, what’s the saying- out with the old in with the new

I think all those new properties going up bring new life into the community. It’s a nice change for the better. I don’t get all the complaining. You’re neighborhood is getting a free upgrade.
I see you don’t get it. They upgrade, UP the rent and get the residents UP out of there. There’s an agenda and it doesn’t benefit the residents who already live there. Saw it happen to my neighborhood already. That’s what the complaining is about. New life? Would you like new life in your home? Raise your rent 3 times the amount you were paying? That means you’re old life and you need to find another home.
How is it an upgrade when no one white folks lives there benefits from it? Just because white people take over and claim a space doesn’t automatically make it good. Your comment is ignorant and shows your lack of compassion.
Wonder where the crime problem will move to next?

Most people have moore than what they need improvise families from. Grandma to cousins better start working as one invest in apt buildings fix up and live but we r to divided that's why they can pimp us.

I wouldn’t argue with vampires. It is their nature to go for blood and feast on the vulnerable. Let’s see if they can handle it when ish starts to fall apart for them. When you have always had an advantage over a land mass that was stolen, the scales have to be balanced eventually.
