Honestly this song really does put me in a good mood, it does more than that though it makes me optimistic. I been dealing with depression throughout most of high school and it got pretty bad my senior year which resulted in me not being able to walk with the rest of my class. I took a year off from starting college to better understand myself and I defeated my depression. This song though, it's helped me throughout the way, I would always hear this when I felt sad. Life is good, through all the bullshit, life is good... It's good to be alive.

It’s an uplifting song for sure. Sorry to hear about that and sure it’s disappointing. I praise God for creating music and this song does bring up people’s mood, but only Christ can bring up your soul man. It’s good to be alive, definitely. but when this life ends, what then? we need the hope that Jesus brings and I’m praying for you to know the joy of Jesus!

This just brings me back to the 90s in our 3rd story apartment during the summers with all the windows open. My parents always played music on speakers and this song and a few other specific songs just really bring old memories to life and my Dad back to life and.. Just feeling like a kid again with not a care in the world. God Bless what music does for our souls, it really does help

Sugar ray made such great music I loved when I was a kid and still love today at 27 years old, only difference is I relate alot more now a days haha. I wonder what ever happened to him and where he's at now? Either way hope he's doing great!

@@garrettj.rodriguezslowpoke5094 the vocalist in Sugar Ray wanted to make a sad song that sounded melodic and kinda upbeat.
So the obvious line about his mother having passed away fits in with that sad aspect, which was taken by a song directly about suicide though I don't remember the name of the song. It's an old 60's/70's tune though iirc.
Sugar Ray had mentioned the juxtaposition between sad meloncholic lyrics and happier sounding music before for years but it was only more recently (past 8-9 years or so really) that they've really been explicit about fly genuinely reflecting somebody struggling with suicidal thoughts.
There are other ways to interpret it though, I always thought it was about him just wanting to do better in life, make something of himself, which could still be taken as being sad lyrics depending on how you take it I suppose.
It's honestly really interesting, I love songs that audibly sound like a totally different mood than the lyrics.

There are three version I heard of this song: one with Supercat with the repeat of the opening in the middle, one without Supercat but with the hard guitar in the middle, but this is the best version with both Supercat and the hard guitars.
