I was reading an article about a walkaround the Rochdale canal up there, it was near Walsden, up to Summit and back along the ridge of Saddleworth, thinking of going this weekend, thought I`d let you know!
I’d like to recommend a walk for you in Tod, just down the road. Up the Pike and have a gander over to Gaddings. Similar to your Peak District rambles but a little more compact.

Hard to believe that in the 1960s Hebden Bridge was a ghost town with about two shops from how I remember it as a young girl.
