OMG I'm so tired of reading comments about his style changing...that means you don't know how the music industry works....If you don't change something, people get bored and you never add new fans to the fan base. Anyways, I don't think his style has changed. If you listened to this song (and the others he's released) being sung by other artists you could still say is an Ed Sheeran song because of the rhythm, the rap thingy.....the only difference between "X" and "+" is the first one was more of an acoustic album, and this one has more instruments and beats, but I can still see THE Ed Sheeran we all fell in love with. Me and my friend were in math class and our teacher is soo chill in math so she started humming this song and then i started humming it and then this boy did and then within two minutes everyone in m class is humming and me and my friend just burst out in song and i swear i felt like I was in high school musical but then it turned into like a singing battle and we sang like the whole song all while maintaining eye contact. Ed, can I just say from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU for taking the explicit words out of your album. It really means a lot to me, and I know it does to a lot of other fans too. I just like listening to songs without the f-word every other verse, you know? So thanks. Really.
Good God.... just stop right there. He should have just released an edited version and an explicit version. If he was going to edit every copy then he shouldn't have written songs with explicit lyrics because it damn near ruins it by eliminating the passion with which that line was written. If, at the time he wrote it, he felt the need to use such strong wording, the listener loses on that passion when it's erased and replaced with some cliche breathy noise. It's fair enough that some people want edited versions, but for those of us who it doesn't bother in the least (which is probably the majority of the people who listen to his music), it compromises the integrity of the song and makes me not enjoy it quite as much. Which is sad.
I can't go around watching RUclips, using data every time I want to listen to a song unedited, with consequently lower quality. Ordinarily, with few exceptions, the studio version is much higher quality. Plus I did watch several live performances of this song and, for all intents and purposes, they are also edited by him by way of him either whispering it, or just not saying it period.

You like it better the other way. That's okay! And you CAN download his unedited performances from RUclips to a file playable on a phone, if you really want to. I disagree. I think the words he chose to leave out would have added more passion to the lyrics that they now lack (only slightly). Though Ed's music is absolutely perfect, the inclusion of these words would give even more depth to his new album.

I had a deja vu when I heard the "But I gave her my time" bit. I couldn't put my finger on it, but then I realised it reminds me of a verse in Ed and Passenger's cover of No Diggity. Not the actual lyrics, just the tune in which he sings it.
Everyone is complaining his sound is changing but the people who say that are completely wrong. The people who are saying his sound is "changing" are the people who only heard A Team and Lego House. If you listened to all his covers and the rest of the music on his plus album, you'd be informed to know that this has always been him so calm down.
With people saying he has changed need to wake up and realise that the only way to gain further popularity is to branch out to others and this isn't completely different. If anything it has the same chord progression and rhythm as No Diggity/Thrift Shop when he covered it when joining Passenger. His whole album is not completely different to anything he's ever done. There is just better production if I'm honest. And most songs are just him and his guitar so there's not much of a change at all. Sing is only more fast paced and more poppy but in a good way. There isn't a generic hook nor a generic melody so I'm very satisfied with it! I gain a lot of inspiration from his music when making and producing my own music. The fact that he has music out of his comfort zone encourages me to make my own music out of my comfort zone and learn music out of my comfort zone so I applaud him! All I have to further say is that I hope Ed continues to make amazing music that his fans will enjoy and music to reel in new fans....can't have too many fans!

I don't understand why he can't release two versions, one clean and one un-edited? Most other artists do it? Even stranger, I don't understand why he has to edit himself? The curse words and the "fucks" are what made his lyrics feel real and passionate to a majority of his fans. You can tell that Ed really meant what he sung. Take away those words and you take away a lot of strength and passion of his lyrics. It's a shame that artists feel the need to compromise their work. Artists should never compromise to appeal to the masses.

That might be the truth but if so, why then include curse words at all? Only to use a sound-effect? If he wanted a clean version he could've just written clean songs without any swearing in them. Anyway, the point is that the "fucks" are part of Ed's songs and what makes them so powerful. He shouldn't have messed with them to please a random guy!

OMG I'm so tired of reading comments about his style changing...that means you don't know how the music industry works....If you don't change something, people get bored and you never add new fans to the fan base. Anyways, I don't think his style has changed. If you listened to this song (and the others he's released) being sung by other artists you could still say is an Ed Sheeran song because of the rhythm, the rap thingy.....the only difference between "X" and "+" is the first one was more of an acoustic album, and this one has more instruments and beats, but I can still see THE Ed Sheeran we all fell in love with. I'm just so excited for this album and I hate seeing negative comments because we don't know how much work is put into creating it! (excuse my grammar, I'm spanish haha) Oh and that doesn't mean you can't dislike this song, I'm not talking about that, I'm talking about the "changing his style" thing.

Me and my friend were in math class and our teacher is soo chill in math so she started humming this song and then i started humming it and then this boy did and then within two minutes everyone in m class is humming and me and my friend just burst out in song and i swear i felt like I was in high school musical but then it turned into like a singing battle and we sang like the whole song all while maintaining eye contact. Ed, can I just say from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU for taking the explicit words out of your album. It really means a lot to me, and I know it does to a lot of other fans too. I just like listening to songs without the f-word every other verse, you know? So thanks. Really.
Good God.... just stop right there. He should have just released an edited version and an explicit version. If he was going to edit every copy then he shouldn't have written songs with explicit lyrics because it damn near ruins it by eliminating the passion with which that line was written. If, at the time he wrote it, he felt the need to use such strong wording, the listener loses on that passion when it's erased and replaced with some cliche breathy noise. It's fair enough that some people want edited versions, but for those of us who it doesn't bother in the least (which is probably the majority of the people who listen to his music), it compromises the integrity of the song and makes me not enjoy it quite as much. Which is sad.
I personally agree. I prefer clean version, for those that want the explicit one there are performances of it.
I can't go around watching RUclips, using data every time I want to listen to a song unedited, with consequently lower quality. Ordinarily, with few exceptions, the studio version is much higher quality. Plus I did watch several live performances of this song and, for all intents and purposes, they are also edited by him by way of him either whispering it, or just not saying it period.

I disagree. I think the words he chose to leave out would have added more passion to the lyrics that they now lack (only slightly). Though Ed's music is absolutely perfect, the inclusion of these words would give even more depth to his new album.

Everyone is complaining his sound is changing but the people who say that are completely wrong. The people who are saying his sound is "changing" are the people who only heard A Team and Lego House. If you listened to all his covers and the rest of the music on his plus album, you'd be informed to know that this has always been him so calm down.
With people saying he has changed need to wake up and realise that the only way to gain further popularity is to branch out to others and this isn't completely different. If anything it has the same chord progression and rhythm as No Diggity/Thrift Shop when he covered it when joining Passenger. His whole album is not completely different to anything he's ever done. There is just better production if I'm honest. And most songs are just him and his guitar so there's not much of a change at all. Sing is only more fast paced and more poppy but in a good way. There isn't a generic hook nor a generic melody so I'm very satisfied with it!
I gain a lot of inspiration from his music when making and producing my own music. The fact that he has music out of his comfort zone encourages me to make my own music out of my comfort zone and learn music out of my comfort zone so I applaud him!
All I have to further say is that I hope Ed continues to make amazing music that his fans will enjoy and music to reel in new fans....can't have too many fans!

Even stranger, I don't understand why he has to edit himself? The curse words and the "fucks" are what made his lyrics feel real and passionate to a majority of his fans. You can tell that Ed really meant what he sung. Take away those words and you take away a lot of strength and passion of his lyrics.
It's a shame that artists feel the need to compromise their work. Artists should never compromise to appeal to the masses.

If he wanted a clean version he could've just written clean songs without any swearing in them.

just went to his concert yesterday and he's back after 12 years, it was also my first ever concert! it was truly amazing and magical, Ed is just incredible to the max.
