The IRS is doing "it" to Mike Pillow because he did not want to make FICA contributions to his employees my deliberately classifying them as independent contractors! When a person's work conditions and requirements are controlled by the company, they are employees, not independent contractors. In other words, Mike was stealing from the employees he is so concerned about by making the employees responsible for both the employee AND employer FICA contributions and not providing healthcare benefits.

Based on what he said, that is what I think he is doing. It is a solid issue for the IRS as working remotely would not be a meaningful factor in employment status. I would not be one bit surprised to find out that one of his "contractors" reported him to the IRS when they got their 1099 and realized how much income and employment tax they would have to pay (because nothing was withheld). Depending on their total income, somebody making $20K might get hit with $5K (rough estimate) in income and SS taxes - you can bet that person did not have $5K laying around to send to Uncle Sam.

Auditors hate doing their jobs as much as we hate dealing with auditors because they have to deal with people like this. I do feel very sad for his employees in Minnesota.
1) Lindell's employees would've been very dense to have not seen the writing on the wall when major retailers dropped MyPillow, when Lindell started heavily discounting his merch, publicly complaining of how poorly the business was doing, and selling off equipment. 2) Dominion, Smartmatic, or his lenders may well end up with the business as a settlement, either sell it or reorganize it, and someone else will run it, possibly keeping his already-trained employees on.

David, I am a retired CPA and I can tell you what Lindell is talking about. A lot of businesses classify wrongly their workers as contractors instead of employees because it is cheaper - they do not have to pay Social security and Medicare taxes, unemployment taxes and insurance, or other benefits. It is the workers who suffer from this practice. The IRS has a program to catch employers who do this. It is not considered an audit, rather a payroll tax enforcement program. It is often done by revenue officers and not auditors because the issues are simple and supported by lots of case law.
The right to say that cancel culture is a bad thing. But in this case, I forget a good thing.

If the IRS wants to do an investigation, there must’ve been something that caught their attention. If he’s done nothing wrong and everything is on the up and up, he’ll cooperate so they can get it done and be on their way. At least that’s how it’s done when the IRS investigates INNOCENT people. Anyone who acts like Lindell, I would find suspicious right off the bat.

Pillow can't have it both ways. He calls his remote work from home call center workers "employees" on War Room, but he also mentions that they are contractors. They probably do not qualify as being independent contractors under IRS rules, so they are considered to be employees. This means that Pillow has to pay the sort of taxes companies do for employees, which he hasn't been doing.
