  • Why does this Solo have this nickname? Jordan Adam on the railforums website puts it best: "Just be glad you didn't have the oldest Bluebird Solo 47161 aka "Jesus Christ", it was withdrawn in 2019, sat at Elgin for two years and was quite randomly "resurrected" at the start of 2021 as a paint float at Aberdeen. To put it bluntly, you can very quickly tell it had been sat for that length of time and reinstated in a rush at short notice, to change gear the driver has to use the manual override otherwise it'll just stick in gear hence it's quite common to see it screeching up Union Street in first gear, the doors don't work properly, just about everything rattles about and the whole vehicle shakes violently above 30MPH."
So when it turned up during a trip to Aberdeen a couple of years ago, I had to give it a try! Although it wasn't quite as bad as in the post, the gearbox was very jerky and hesitant, and there were still a few electrical and door glitches, including at 6:24 when one of the stop buttons appeared to be linked to the indicator buzzer! Aside from that, the engine sounded great and I rather enjoyed the journey.
