If you asked Trump about his greatest accomplishment, he would probably talk about the time he addressed a crowd with a zillion people, and that it's only the fake news media that insists that "a zillion" is not a real number. In fact, he once addressed a Brazilian people, which is even more than a zillion, so big that they even named a country after it. One time, Trump addressed a crowd so large that there were more people in that crowd than there are people on Earth, possibly more than have ever existed.
His greatest accomplishments are yet to come, next time he’s president he won’t let people keep him from what needs to be done or waste his time with frivolous law suits.
Walz: I want to be in political office because I want to help people. Harris: I want to be in political office because I want to protect people. Trump: My buildings are the tallest, my crowds are the biggest, my toilets have the most gold, I know all the classiest people, I know more about everything than everyone, I've never done a single wrong thing in my entire life, everyone's so unfair to me, and I should be allowed to do anything I want. You should vote for me because you should acknowledge me as your better, the greatest person who has ever lived. And if I don't win, it's a huge lie and we should burn everything down. Also, the other side is a bunch of extremists who will destroy America. Only I can possibly save it, by being president for life and above the law. And if you don't believe that, you're an enemy of the people and you should be locked up. Vance: I've never seen that couch before in my life.
I feel like it is much more clearly that he went into politics for personal power. He called Trump a modern Hitler, technically America's Hitler, and he totally flipped on that when it meant he had a chance at a higher position. Not power so he can achieve a goal, the power is the goal, to Lord it over people and feel dominant.
For me, a very stark difference between the Republican and Democrat tickets is that I have never seen Trump or Vance laugh, and can't even remember a single instance of Trump smiling, while Kamala and Tim both smile and banter and laugh in the a most heartfelt and engaging way. The Republicans even tried to turn that into a negative. Kinda sums up the difference between the two camps quite neatly.
I've seen Trump smile in two cases. The first is when he brags about how amazingly successful, rich and smart he is, generally not managing basic English while doing so, and the other is when he lies. Which I know is a tautology to the first, but you know, he lies about other things too.
Trump gets a "smile" that looks more like a toddler wetting his pants to spite his parents whenever he has a crowd going nuts praising him, like at the RNC. It's creepy and disgusting and weird.
It's sort of a micro view of how Democrats and Republics think. For the Democrats it's about others and making the whole of the community better. For the Republicans, it's about themselves: what they did that makes them important. We the People vs. Me the People.
In 40plus years that I've been aware of Trump as a public figure, I haven't seen one example of him having a normal human conversation. Not once where he talked to someone back and forth, listening something they told him, that I thought he'd be able to repeat it back later. Every story he tells about talking to someone relates to how they spoke about him.
I've been to parties where people are all talking like that. Everyone saying something, but not one of them listening to anyone but themselves. It's the kind of party where mirrors lay face-up on tables, and straws are not used for imbibing liquids.
Recently saw an interview between Trump and Theo Von, and I was struck by how human Trump's conversation was in it. Theo was very casual about it, even calling him "dude" and "homie" a few times, and the initial topics were down to earth things, such as asking him what he liked about his kids, or discussing the nature of addiction. All performative, perhaps, but delivered in a human and seemingly sincere way. It was, uncomfortably, humanizing. But of course, as soon as things approached policy and governance, he fell back on lying and victimizing himself. Made me think that just maybe, if he'd kept his nose out of politics and taken the time to sincerely reflect on his life and discover his own self worth divorced from other's opinions, he could have been a good guy. Instead, he's become the whole world's problem.
@@Measure02This is one of the saddest things about bad people: they didn't have to be bad people. They aren't 2d cartoon villains, or inhuman monsters, they're people who are actively choosing to be who they are. But they're still human, and from time to time you see it, beneath the monster. And it makes you wonder, what if they had made different choices, or had been raised better, or been less ambitious. Is there a way this person could have just been normal? I think being able to see that, and feeling bad about it from time to time, is a good thing. Not because we should let their behavior slide, but because it means you have empathy, even for people who choose to be bad. It shows that you're attempting to understand people, even when you really don't like them. I like to think that's a sign you're a good person.
Steve. I used to have a purely nerdy feed. Your coverage of how trek and modern politics converge got me much more politically aware, and thus, my friends are aware. Thanks for being a solid envoy for progressive views. Let us never stumble backwards
How does one change the world without owning a part of it, one might wonder. Does one have to change it like a graffiti artist paint the walls of a building they did not own?
@@chewxieyang4677Your question reminds me of the serial presidential candidate (from a certain one-issue party named after a color) who insisted that if she vandalized a bulldozer she could stop the construction of a pipeline only to get herself arrested. That same candidate was later seen with Republicans having dinner at Vlad’s place in Moscow on our Independence Day. No, the only thing vandalism and associating with avowed enemies of our Nation-both foreign and domestic-accomplish is making the perpetrator look like the complete and utter fool he or she already is. It’s a cop out. Real change is accomplished by those who live their lives with integrity and aid others to do the same. That’s the antithesis of a cop out. By living a life of integrity, Gov. Walz has demonstrated himself to be a true change maker.
What struck me about Tim's state championship story is the kind of work and dedication it would take to make something like that happen. He came into a team that for years had struggled to win games, if they won any at all. And he turned it around within two years to not just be a capable team, but one that took the state championship. He didn't do it single handedly either. To hear how his students thought highly enough of him to convince him to run for office, you know he supported that team not as his players, but as fellow human beings. It suggests he contributed to developing new strategies and training methods, uplifted and connected to his players and gave them the spirit to win, to have confidence that they could. No wonder he rose through the ranks of the military the way he did, he was a leader that cared about his team and did the work to build them up with compassion while pushing them to improve. This is a man that believes dearly in humanity, and has proven he can walk the walk. A man that knows how to compromise without compromising his values. That's exactly what I want in our government, that's the kind of person that can bring about genuine change for the better. I want him to do for our country what he did for that team.
_Tikkun Olam,_ my dude. A huge part of why I still identify as a Jew, despite being (charitably) agnostic, is the Jewish philosophy-baked into me by a family of public servants-that the _most important_ thing in life is to leave this world better than you found it, not just for your descendants, whether or not your name is spoken for a thousand generations, and without any expectation of reward in the hereafter. *That's* what this Presidential ticket is channeling, and that's why I feel far more "represented" by it than if Harris had chosen Shapiro or even Sanders as her running mate.
Also note for Walz winning isn't what's important. It's teaching the kids and making them proud of themselves. He'd rather lose games and have the kids become successful adults. His job wasn't to win in his mind, it was to teach.
The thing that strikes me most about Harris and Walz is how absolutely *normal* they are. They're speaking to each other more or less like people. Vance and Donny on the other hand, I've never seen them act normal and I cannot imagine them ever doing so. Agree with them or not on policies, Harris and Walz are *people*, sure Kamala has been in and around power for a while, but she comes off as human, and the GOP candidates just fundamentally don't. "Weird" is exactly the word to call it.
I might just have not seen it but have Vance and Trump ever had a normal human interaction with each other? Like there’s clips of Walz and Harris joking around but I don’t think I’ve ever seen Trump in the same room as his VP.
You had me at, “I just really do NOT like American football”. Edit to add after watching the entire video: I kept waiting for you to state the most obvious, fundamental aspect of Trump’s public “service”, which is; it’s always and only ever about himself, completely and utterly Trump-centric thoughts and intentions behind every second of it all. He isn’t capable of doing anything simply because it’s the right thing to do. His mind cannot comprehend or absorb “right thing to do”. For him, the imperative is only; “will this feel good for me”. Period.
To put it another way: Trump’s concept of public service is the public serving him. Of course, it’s supposed to be the other way around; but, Pvt. Bone Spurs has never agreed to that basic premise of the American covenant.
Reminded me of a line from A Knight's Tale. while the main character was in a pillory being attacked by people for impersonating a knight a prince came up to him and said "Your men love you, if I knew nothing else about you that would be enough" shortly before knighting the man in front of everyone, all because the main character had been trying to make a positive impact in the lives of people. And you're right about Trump, tell him any stories like those and he'll feel a pathological need to one-up it in some superficial way.
I just watched Bidens speech at the DNC. It made me cry. Thank you Joe for handing off the torch. I haven't had hope for the future in so long. H/W 2024
Joe did a great thing and should be celebrated for it. That being said it is ironic it was a few weeks short of 50 years from Nixon resigning for the good of the country.
What impresses me about Walz was that he volunteered to be a football coach while never playing the game competitively. He just stepped right in to what can be a nightmare job, one that typically requires many years of experience as a player, and was incredibly successful anyways. He just strikes me as the kind of person who endeavors to be successful in whatever he takes on
He organized kids to believe in themselves and win, but then he used the power that gave him to make bullied kids safer. He is not a man who rests on his laurels.
This is so important to me and I need you to know. I've been avoiding anything political out of fear and anxiety, but watching this and watching the video of Harris and Walz was so important to me because it gave me back hope for the future. Thank you thank you thank you.
You should seriously check out _Beau of the Fifth Column_ then! He recently reached burnout stage and his wife has taken over, at least for now. But both of them and the crew are wonderful people. It's old world, fact-based journalism, no sensationalism added. When I cannot stand anything else, I still watch their videos. And the community they've attracted is something I'm proud to be a part of.🥰😊
The meaning of life is easy: Democrats: "Help your fellow man as much as possible" Republicans: "Help our imaginary friend have as many souls to sort as possible" Independents: "There are very fine people on both sides"
In today's political landscape, the influence of catchy taglines often overshadows the importance of actual policy. It is crucial for this message to reach Republicans who line up every election cycle eager to check the box against their own interests in the hopes of harming their neighbors. Be better.
Maybe I'm under a rock, but I'm not seeing any substantive policy and record messaging on Harris. People they need to reach are not motivated merely by "I'm less bad than that guy" and glittering generalities of "moving forward," "protecting freedoms," and "better future," "something something abortion and LGBTQ, GO BLUE!" If abortion rights and sex-gender issues are the only platform pushed, I'm sorry, that's not a winning effort. The status quo sucks and is getting worse, to the point I see even many LGBTQ friends question what's the point of engaging in electoralism at all.
I found Harris' story of her high school friend so moving that I shared a clip of it on reddit. Someone in the comments said "I wish I could vote for her 100 times". That's the kind of passion that comes from going through a lifetime of hard trials and finally one day being seen and understood by someone who has the power to really do something about it. There's nothing like that kind of compassion and hope on the other side.
She grew up in Oakland, witch at the time was one of the most diverse cities in the world. Familiarity helps people see how bigotry is the root cause of humanities self-imposed problems. I'm her age and remember helping Huey Newtons son break up fights in HS over racism. Most of us, no matter our skin color, hated racism. Anyway, my only reservation about Harris is does she know Trickledown created the rise of Fascism? Biden does. It needs to be undone or things will not get better..
it was an emotional night listening to President Biden but also a proud night to see VP Harris unite Americans, reminds me when President Obama was running in 2008
You aren't the only one who senses the excitement: i2-prod.irishstar.com/incoming/article33481976.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/1_Kamala-Harris-FORWARD-18X24.jpg
What is an even bigger contrast to Trunmp, it's not just about positive impact they've had on the lives of others, but also about what and who has influenced them in their lives and how their communities have shaped them. It's not about "I did this, these are my numbers", but about "This is who I am", and yes, that alone should make this election a no-brainer.
Becoming a coach and turning a team around is no small task. This shows his ability to relate to those players and motivate them to do what needs to be done. But this is small potatoes compared to becoming a faculty advisor to the Gay-Straight Alliance group in 1999, that same year. Leading a football team is a cool skill, but standing up for the LGBTQ+ community in 1999 takes some bravery.
I wouldn't even call this a distinction between Democrats and Republicans. Just one between people living in the masses' reality and the rich people's.
I've never heard another individual express views about American football that so directly reflect my own! Just dound your channel a couple days ago. Dang glad I did! I'm making my way through your vids. Thank you MUCH!
There are not many people I would sit still and watch, as well as listen to as you diffuse your sentiments. If you ever become a politician, let me apply to be your speechwriter, it would be the easiest job in the world. Speech: "Say what's on your mind, here's the relevant facts and research as follows."
Good points. Also, have you noticed that Trump never talks about his family in personal terms? That he never tells a self-deprecating joke? That he never laughs?
It's always fascinating the clear difference between Democrats and Republicans when it comes to messaging, of what could happen if "I am elected." And like what is pointed in this video, helping your community and others versus personal gain...Republicans, " are you tired of not being able to own more guns than you need without having to fillout forms and potentially needing a license, tired of being called a racist/bigot for using slurs or not wanting to live next people of colour or someone in the LGBTQ+ community, or wish you didn't have to pay so many taxes vote for me." Where as Democrats, "everyone should contribute their fair share of taxes so everyone can prosper, want to have full autonamaty of your own body, want to make choices in who you are and not be discriminated for it, and want make the community you live be safer for everyone vote for me." If Republicans had anything other than selfish whims of the elite or their base and had something for the community like Democrats they would not spend so much money, time, and effort in trying to prevent people from voting, the only time a political party spends that much of effort on anything other than what they are paid and voted to do is if they have nothing to offer...Then when that failsthey try to take complete control and become a dictatorship.
Basically two human beings against two 'venture capitalists'. Two people who've found their way into politics through helping the community against two who did it to extend their personal wealth and power. Shouldn't be a hard choice.
This election will hopefully be the definitive answer to whether America cares more about supporting those of us who need it or propping up those that only exist to put others down. This cult shit has gotta stop already. It shouldn’t be a hard choice, but they’re not just a party anymore.
I mean when asked just after Tiffany was born what features she had that reminded him of Marla, he starting talking about how his NEWBORN DAUGHTER didn’t have breast yet, and when he talks about Baron, he always talks about how tall he is. Just gross shallow stuff.
Even if you don't personally approve of a sport like football, it should be worth noting that a good coach, especially in high school, can have a hugely beneficial impact on the kids he coaches. If Walz was the kind of coach he seems like he would have been, he probably lifted up his kids, emphasizing the value of teamwork, respect, discipline, perseverance, and integrity.
I really enjoyed that video of them sitting down and just talking. Like you said, it was a somewhat scripted conversation to promote the campaign, but we can appreciate it because it was REAL. Definitely something we would never see from Trump. Or, Trump & Vance for that matter.
What I hate about football, in high school specifically, is the fact that, oftentimes, no other sports get attention. It's all about the football because they are the money makers. Okay, I get that to a certain extent, but it just makes me so frustrated and frankly disgusted. There are hundreds of students in schools that play other sports, compete on academic teams, etc, but they seem to be completely dismissed & forgotten. The tennis team could win state and still barely be acknowledged. It's kind of unbelievable. My ex-husband played baseball at Notre Dame and played in the minor leagues for the Detroit Tiger organization and then was a college baseball coach as well as a high school coach. He was also a football coach for one of the top high school teams in Florida, so I kind of got a viewpoint from many different angles. And always, I would get frustrated with the football team seemingly getting all of the attention.
It's also a Star Trek message. 😉 This sounds like the longform version of the explanation Picard gives to the 21st C billionaire about what the Challenge is. ❤
I'm watching your commentaries back to back, and I'm impressed. It doesn't matter if you like football. I think the point is he took these young guys who thought they were worthless losers and instilled in them that with hard work and discipline, you can be and do anything you set your mind to.
As a fellow rabid hater of football, in particular high school football, I would love for you to do a video delving into your reasons for hating what is largely considered to be such a beloved part of Americana.
I second this motion! I cannot stand American football (don't always mid what the rest of the world calls football, although the guy who invented the vuvuzela should be charged with crimes against humanity...) and the culture that surrounds it, and I think that culture is especially harmful at high school level. Between the effects of TBIs on growing brains, the drain of money and resources from the arts into sports programs, to the effects of competitive sports on adolescent social systems, there's a lot to unpack there. And let's not even get into the horrorshow that is competitive cheerleading.
@@thing_under_the_stairsSame. There is far, far too much machismo infesting the culture in American football. I'm certainly not going to claim that athletes aren't hurt or even killed while playing other sports, but practically every football game that I've gone to sees at least one athlete limping away from the field or being carted away. Injuries that would be considered shocking in baseball or even hockey (and those guys are standing on sharp blades!) are commonplace in football. Also, I live in Texas. It is practically every single year that I hear about some poor kid being pressured to exercise to the point of a medical emergency or death! Jesus tapdancing Christ, why the hell would any parent tolerate that kind of body count?
picking a net here. Walz was not the head coach of the football team. He was the defensive coordinator. Not that that really matters. I just want our side to get even the minor details correct.
Predictably enough, Republicans have been screaming and shouting about these details as if Walz had lied about it. Same as Walz's highest military rank vs his rank on retirement. Goofy details that he didn't lie about, but conservative talking heads are all over it.
Something else that struck me about the video from the Harris/Walz campaign is that when they´re talking, they sound like real people. They talk about things that real people have experienced and can relate to.
I like hearing the story Tim Walz sharing his high school football team success, through your eyes, I watched it too. I believe he built a lot of confidence in the teens on the team.
I've talked with undecided voters, (actually, pre-Kamala, so...) and they said to me, "I feel like Trump is the kinda guy you could sit and have a beer with." Wut? I mean, could you actually enjoy, even stand to sit through a whole beer with that egotist? And ego aside, what would you have in common to talk about. Your kids' baseball game? Family vacation? That time you and your college buds made total idiots of yourselves and laughed off the bruises? He's nothing MORE than the facade that IS "Trump". Harris/Walz are not my ideal candidates, but they are REAL people who can sit and be real with others as mere people. Now, I say this as someone who has worked professionally with celebrities, so I have a bias against elevating others on a pedestal, but I think this point still stands.
You make some good points about personality and emotion. I do think the personal does affect the systemic too. No one understands how the economy works, but the Biden administration demonstrates that having good intentions can improve the economy.
Last crowd size claim I heard from the trump camp was (I'm not even joking) 10 million people that showed up. At a venue that held 2,000 people TOPS and wasn't even full. 🙄
In the last 6 years of my Mother's life, when I had finally locked onto the fact that she was a Narcissist, and what that meant, I made a commitment to have No Contact between us. I had no interest in having any interaction with her, even though I loved her, because there was nothing I could get out of her that had any meaning. That's how we must interact with our former Narcissist-in-chief. He talks about nothing in human terms because in effect he's not human. Like my mother, he doesn't deserve our hate or contempt or scorn, and he certainly doesn't deserve our pity. He's a sad, tragic figure, but he will never realize that. He's not a loser; he's lost.
spot on, that was exactly my thought after seeing that video: it's tailored, sure, but for people who are sane, good people. not for those who are easily impressed by wealth
It’s refreshing hearing them talk to each other (to us, really) like they’re humans. It’s been so long since we had someone like that to vote for. The worst controversy they could drum up under Obama, was Tan Suitgate. I’m looking forward to leadership I can believe in.
With Trump, it's all "me, me, me, look what I did, look how great I am" as opposed to "look at what we accomplished, look at what we were able to do, I would like to be able to help people" - feels very different
I grew up in Oklahoma where it’s god, country, family, and football. I started playing in the 3rd grade. By 7th grade I was on to theater. Football was amazing but we were forced to hit helmet to helmet every day. My final year playing I was playing free safety and ended up flat on my back with my face mask buried in the mud with my head still in it. I agree with you about Harris-Walz. I’ll check out their video.
Hey Steve - thank you for doing the political videos. You just have a natural talent for explaining this stuff that makes it so clear what's going on. And with your reach, you can make a difference. Keep it up!
So many of the problems we have in this world are directly the result of men who've built their entire lives around the pursuit of money. But ultimately that pursuit is completely empty. There's nothing there. Nothing that the soul and spirit needs. And they can't deal with that realization and go insane, taking it out on the world. Greed=death.
Steve...I would love to hear your take on the usually pro-GOP groups that are coming out pro-Harris (Republicans, LDS, evangelicals, etc.). I'm not saying one side voting for the other side is unprecedented, but announcing it publicly and in such large numbers is pretty damned rare.
Please, watch Ted Lasso. It'll be so far up your alley, you'll kick yourself for not having watched it earlier ( if you haven't, that is). It's pretty much everything you just talked about as a TV show.
I will bring Starttek to a political video for a change: what you say and what Harris and Waltz talk avoout is exactly what Startrek is about for me. What it inspire me to do and be. Not flawlessly I admit. Startrek got things wrong (like Harris and Waltz) but I prefer someone who tries to make things right and better and sometimes fail over someone who says it doesnt matter.
I have to imagine that the bit about "white people tacos" was a true representation of Tim Walz because no one in their right mind would think lying about the fact that your idea of tacos is ground beef with cheese and no seasoning is a winning political move. 😂
I am hyped up from the entire DNC tonight. I watched Harris / Walz at a high school football practice. Then I watched and read MAGA comments about the high school visit. MAGA was upset that minority males were being encouraged and valued. MAGA can't stop being petty, tribal, and bigots.
In that interview and others he’s careful to say he was coach of the lineback, and then recently heard someone mocking him because he was an assistant coach. I’m sure none of his linebackers called him that.
Hell yes. Thanks for sharing your insights. I did start watching you for your Star Trek stuff (in part hoping you'd dislike the gritty realism of DS9, but i digress), but I'm loving your politics stuff more and more
i loved that convo between them, almost like a first date for friends. could you imagine trump and vance sitting down like that, it would probably be alot like the elon musk and trump conversation that would never end because they both want the last word.
I seem to be first here for a change. 😁 Not sure that I can add much since I am not an American, but I think I understand more of what you meant than DT would. You keep being you.
Love the video but I really want to know about the patch on Steve's hat. (Edit: Figured out it's a Maryland flag patch. Phew. My brain can relax.) I also watched the Harris Walz video and was shocked that they were normal people not the usual political narcissists I'm used to. It was a nice feeling.
Listening to you I had an epiphany: the MAGA leaders develop followers and the democrat leaders mentor more leaders. From my perspective, MAGA narrates a story line where fear is the motivator and the only way every day people can make the world safe is to obey MAGA leaders. Harris and Walz exemplify the current democrat story line: that the best way to make the world safe is by every day people rising up and being a leader, the solutions aren’t based on obeying the solutions are based on being an active participant with a unique perspective, a critical voice in the narrative. Ask yourself, do you want to be told where to live, what type of family to have, what type of job you are allowed to do, what kind of food you’re allowed to eat, who your friends are, what to believe, who to love and who you must hate. Even if you don’t have hate in your heart, the current GOP narrative orders people to hate this group, that guy, these women, that way of life. Under MAGA fear and hate drive the boat. Fear and hate are what creates followers who obey. Democrats are creating a new narrative. The foundation for this new narrative was laid by President Biden, a man who has never been thought of as a great orator, whose strength is based on integrity and policies that are people centered. With Harris and Walz, and many of the New Democrat leadership, we’re hearing their message loud and clear: the world isn’t a scary place, it’s full of people who understand that personal autonomy is our strength and participation our opportunity to rise up and take a stand, not just for ourselves and our own lives but also for our neighbors; we the people are full of compassion, joy, confidence and we the people respect other perspectives, other values, viewpoints and voices. We don’t want followers, we want co-leaders. We know that it takes a village and that the village is in full color, vibrant and rich in the connections that bind us and the planet who provides us with a healthy loving home. VOTE 💙🔷💙💯💙🔷💙
Trump would indeed brag about how big his crowds are, how expensive his real estate is, how many people he fired on The Apprentice. The crazy thing is: those are *also* the things his base values. The man is pure extrinsic, pure appearances, pure superficiality, 100% head to toe. It's just heartbreaking to know how many of our countrymen are the same. The golden exterior sheen is all that matters to them.
Wonderful
His greatest accomplishments are yet to come, next time he’s president he won’t let people keep him from what needs to be done or waste his time with frivolous law suits.
😂🤣😂🤣😎💙👍
"I have the zillionest zillions!"
OMG 😵💫😳😳
You are TOO GOOD AT THAT! SCARY!!😅
Monsters Inc said it best. There's 10x the energy in laughter versus fear.
I love this analogy and have felt this way since harris burst onto the scene and especially after walz joined her 🎉
Walz: I want to be in political office because I want to help people.
“I did not have sexual relations with that couch…” 🤣🤣🤣
I feel like it is much more clearly that he went into politics for personal power. He called Trump a modern Hitler, technically America's Hitler, and he totally flipped on that when it meant he had a chance at a higher position. Not power so he can achieve a goal, the power is the goal, to Lord it over people and feel dominant.
This is the perfect summation of the options we have in this election!
Well Said!!!
The Republican message has always been "You're on your own." The Democratic message has always been "We're all in this together."
I don't like Am. football either, but I looove soccer.
"You're on your own, and if you fail, you must've deserved it." ~ Bobby Bootstrappin
We have seen a photo of Trump smiling....sort of. It's more of a smirk, really....
Do not do a google search for "trump smiling." I don't know what that facial expression actually is, but it haunts my nightmares.
They don’t laugh, they yuk.
Preach, Steve! A government run by people who give a crap is much preferred than the alternative.
The alternative being somebody who takes a crap?!?!?! FDT 🦘🦘🦘
Steve. I used to have a purely nerdy feed. Your coverage of how trek and modern politics converge got me much more politically aware, and thus, my friends are aware. Thanks for being a solid envoy for progressive views. Let us never stumble backwards

the balance on this ticket on the fulcrum of understanding "everyday people" really speaks to me. It IS refreshing.
The difference between wanting to change the world and just wanting to own the world.
They come off as people. It's crazy how thats a flex now but it is.
I love Steve's love for empathy in our world. Good to hear him talk about such things.
You had me at, “I just really do NOT like American football”.
Edit to add after watching the entire video:
I kept waiting for you to state the most obvious, fundamental aspect of Trump’s public “service”, which is; it’s always and only ever about himself, completely and utterly Trump-centric thoughts and intentions behind every second of it all.
H/W 2024
@@CompComp fingers crossed buddy
🤞🤞🤞
Joe did a great thing and should be celebrated for it.
That being said it is ironic it was a few weeks short of 50 years from Nixon resigning for the good of the country.
Me neither.
What impresses me about Walz was that he volunteered to be a football coach while never playing the game competitively. He just stepped right in to what can be a nightmare job, one that typically requires many years of experience as a player, and was incredibly successful anyways. He just strikes me as the kind of person who endeavors to be successful in whatever he takes on
He cares. About the job, about his students, about whatever he's involved in. At least that's the impression he gives off. It's refreshing.
And the community they've attracted is something I'm proud to be a part of.🥰😊
Please come vote! It’s not that scary, I swear! ❤️
Seconding the recommendation for Beau of the Fifth Column! Several short videos each day, calmly putting things in context.
The meaning of life is easy:
Democrats: "Help your fellow man as much as possible"
Republicans: "Help our imaginary friend have as many souls to sort as possible"
Independents: "There are very fine people on both sides"
What about saving animals?
Tim Walz admits where was wrong and talks about learning from mistakes. He seems human.
Tim Walz is a genuinely nice guy. Kamala made a great vp choice.
Could you share a link here? I'd love to share it myself.
Be careful of that. The R's will accuse you of voting that many times and purge you from the voter rolls for that statement.
I’d be willing to bet posts like your friend’s are going to show up as “proof” of voter fraud in a future GOP lawsuit. 😄
it was an emotional night listening to President Biden but also a proud night to see VP Harris unite Americans, reminds me when President Obama was running in 2008
You aren't the only one who senses the excitement: i2-prod.irishstar.com/incoming/article33481976.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/1_Kamala-Harris-FORWARD-18X24.jpg
Bravo, Steve. Well said.
The funniest part was Matt Walsh's meltdown over the "white people tacos"
I wouldn't even call this a distinction between Democrats and Republicans. Just one between people living in the masses' reality and the rich people's.
The video was really well done, They came off as empathetic and human. It's a stark contrast to Trump and Vance.
I've never heard another individual express views about American football that so directly reflect my own!
Just dound your channel a couple days ago. Dang glad I did! I'm making my way through your vids. Thank you MUCH!
Hi hi Koko! ☺ I keep seeing other Beau/Belle Peeps on this channel.
Hope you and everyone are doing well as can be!🥰😊
Many Americans not only tolerate brutality, but actually encourage it and even worship it.
his story about his mom working to pay off medical bills should also be put front and center too.
It's always fascinating the clear difference between Democrats and Republicans when it comes to messaging, of what could happen if "I am elected." And like what is pointed in this video, helping your community and others versus personal gain...Republicans, " are you tired of not being able to own more guns than you need without having to fillout forms and potentially needing a license, tired of being called a racist/bigot for using slurs or not wanting to live next people of colour or someone in the LGBTQ+ community, or wish you didn't have to pay so many taxes vote for me." Where as Democrats, "everyone should contribute their fair share of taxes so everyone can prosper, want to have full autonamaty of your own body, want to make choices in who you are and not be discriminated for it, and want make the community you live be safer for everyone vote for me."
If Republicans had anything other than selfish whims of the elite or their base and had something for the community like Democrats they would not spend so much money, time, and effort in trying to prevent people from voting, the only time a political party spends that much of effort on anything other than what they are paid and voted to do is if they have nothing to offer...Then when that failsthey try to take complete control and become a dictatorship.
Something Oscar Wilde once said about cynics could easily be applied to Trump: "A man who knows the price of everything, and the value of nothing."
Rarely did Trump ever say ge was proud of his kids, he seemed more enamored with Ivanka for various reasons.
I mean when asked just after Tiffany was born what features she had that reminded him of Marla, he starting talking about how his NEWBORN DAUGHTER didn’t have breast yet, and when he talks about Baron, he always talks about how tall he is. Just gross shallow stuff.
Various weird and creepy reasons.
This is what we need as candidates. Actual humans. (At least so far as it appears.) Where the hell was this effort for years? I really hope it lasts.
I really enjoyed that video of them sitting down and just talking.
Like you said, it was a somewhat scripted conversation to promote the campaign, but we can appreciate it because it was REAL.
Definitely something we would never see from Trump.
Or, Trump & Vance for that matter.
Not only am I going to vote for them in office, but I know who I'd rather share a meal with. Even if it is tacos without spice.
This sounds like the longform version of the explanation Picard gives to the 21st C billionaire about what the Challenge is.
I love your Star Trek content, but I F-ing LOVE your political content.
picking a net here.
We, Democrats we’re made aware of that, weeks back!
Something else that struck me about the video from the Harris/Walz campaign is that when they´re talking, they sound like real people. They talk about things that real people have experienced and can relate to.
Just love this. Sharing it. ❤❤
I like hearing the story Tim Walz sharing his high school football team success, through your eyes, I watched it too. I believe he built a lot of confidence in the teens on the team.
You are so right!!! You have a new fan.😂
I've talked with undecided voters, (actually, pre-Kamala, so...) and they said to me, "I feel like Trump is the kinda guy you could sit and have a beer with."
Wut?
Good point. Thanks for mentioning the video. I watched it, and they are just better human beings
I hadn't thought about this angle but it is true. The contrast is amazing.
I like listening to and watching. Steve Shiver's You - Tube Video's.
You have immediately become one of my favorite youtubers. I discovered your channel with the republican canvasser video. 👍
spot on, that was exactly my thought after seeing that video: it's tailored, sure, but for people who are sane, good people. not for those who are easily impressed by wealth
It’s refreshing hearing them talk to each other (to us, really) like they’re humans. It’s been so long since we had someone like that to vote for. The worst controversy they could drum up under Obama, was Tan Suitgate. I’m looking forward to leadership I can believe in.
Look upon my works ye mighty and despair
Well observed Steve. Thank you!
Hey Steve - thank you for doing the political videos. You just have a natural talent for explaining this stuff that makes it so clear what's going on. And with your reach, you can make a difference. Keep it up!
Thank you! 💙
H/W will win the popular vote by over 10 mil this time but the goopers will still try to fix the electoral count somehow.
Great video, brother! ✌️❤️🔥🤘
Thanks for your well considered thoughts, Steve. You understand everything, Godfather.
When i see Kamala and Tim ; i see grass roots ; not seedy weedys. It's glorious JOY.
Please, watch Ted Lasso. It'll be so far up your alley, you'll kick yourself for not having watched it earlier ( if you haven't, that is). It's pretty much everything you just talked about as a TV show.
Just a quick correction, Walz was the Defensive Coordinator not the Head Coach. (Also ran a 4-4 defense which is wild)
You are so right 👍👍
Love this video. Thanks.
He cannot even imagine what a life of not being fed every opportunity on a silver spoon is like.
great job steve

Not sure that I can add much since I am not an American, but I think I understand more of what you meant than DT would.
You keep being you.
Love the video but I really want to know about the patch on Steve's hat. (Edit: Figured out it's a Maryland flag patch. Phew. My brain can relax.)
I also watched the Harris Walz video and was shocked that they were normal people not the usual political narcissists I'm used to. It was a nice feeling.
Thank you. I have subscribed to your channel.😊
It feels nice to be FOR something.
I'd rather make a difference to help one person than the size of a crowd..
Hey Steve. Wishing you guys all the best in the election! It's scary being your neighbour here in Canada.
I'm just trying to figure out how you could hate grid iron. But love rasslin.
Brilliant and funny mind. I look forward to your "Take" on situations.

Well said. I like extrinsic 😎
