Acrylic is basically a hydrocarbon compound, technically it's (C5H8O2)n, and as such liquid nitrogen is cold enough to shatter it (or dry ice exposure for an hour or so take your pick). Based on tensile strength I'm guessing it's technically Plexiglass not just acrylic sheeting (Plexiglass has greater tensile strength) but that's only capable of handling -40 C/F. toss it in a subzero freezer for a couple of hours and take a hammer to it. Your method was more fun though to be honest.
