Wonderful release! Very nice sound, good idea to play it on the cornet. The mute is very interesting too. The phrasing is really beautiful, very expressive and not too pathos. I really like

The compositions of Hovhaness are far underrated. Love this.

The point is that this is the op 62b, the intermezzo of the unknown (and maybe not premiered) Echmiadzín opera (op 62) of 1946 (armenian inspiration period). Perhaps this is one of the causes of underrating. Thanks for recording and sharing this jewel.

There is something almost heartbreaking about the sound of the harmonium in this incredible acoustic. The absolute sincerity and devotion inherent in the score come out beautifully here.

Beautiful rendition. I was privileged to hear this performed at the Cathedral of St John the Divine in NYC. Amateur musicians, but still grand in that space.

Played this in concert at an Alexandre harmonium several years ago with a guest trumpeter. New to me then but loved the interplay of the two instruments. Discovering this wonderful performance on RUclips demands I pull it out and perform it again. Thanks!

Echt prachtig!

"Ah, of course. Those European have it all figured out." Sorry but let's not start waving flags.
Hovhaness was born in NYC, USA, of Armenian parents and the best version of this is by the
jazz/classically trained trumpet W. Marsalis. The organ here is simply overpowered by the trumpet. +Sarah Devlin

      @JacqSanders  9 лет назад +3

      +Ronnie Moore
Ron, your criticism is ok. I don't like the version of Marsalis at all. I like to bring fantasy in music and give variation to that what composers give us.

+Ronnie Moore Well you're just being needlessly unpleasant, Mr. Classical Music Troll.

  • @brandonwoods9623

I love this version. I've never heard it played on cornet before (is that a C cornet or a Bb? Looks like a C), but I think it sounds better on cornet than trumpet in that accoustic, particularly with the harmonium as opposed to the organ. I particularly liked the muted section. Beautifully played by both musicians. Thank you for posting this.
