Tiksi (Yakut: Tiksii - lit. a moorage place, meeting point) is an urban-type settlement and the administrative center of Bulunsky District in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Russia, located on the shore of the Arctic Ocean, southeast of the delta of the Lena River at latitude 71°38′12″ N. Tiksi's population peaked in 1989 at 11,649, and in 2023 stood at 4,440. The construction of the Tiksi seaport and the village next to it was started as part of the exploration and development of the Northern Sea Route and the Lena River basin in 1933. During the Cold War and to this day, a military airfield operates in Tiksi. Since the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Tiksi's population has declined markedly and many of its apartment blocks have been abandoned. Tiksi has a tundra climate. Winter averages (−30 °C) and extremes(−50 °C) are less severe than the subarctic region further south, but the winter length is longer courtesy of the higher latitude. The very short summers are generally cooler (+9 °C) than inland regions and see rainfall on most days. The polar night lasts from November 19 to January 24, and the period with continuous daylight, the midnight sun, lasts a bit longer, from May 11 to August 3. The growing season in Tiksi lasts for 74 days usually from around June 23 to September 5.

Something that amazes me in these places is how much stuff is still left there. Nobody stole the metal to scrap it. Almost no graffiti. I guess remoteness and harsh conditions scare away vandals and scavengers.
I used to live in a pretty remote area. There was a lot of dried up mining facilities and military installations in a 2 hour radius by car. Most of the copper remained. Now you go to Detroit or a big city I never found a oz of metal. places like these aren't worth the journey for scrappers or there just to hidden and they don't find them.

The amount of useful resources just left abandoned in places like this makes the thrifter in me want to cry 😢
I feel the same when I watch these videos of abandoned Soviet settlements/installations. And these are just the ones that are not guarded, makes me wonder how many secret and now forgotten underground facilites or installations exists just being reclaimed by nature again.

Приветствую. В самом начале ВЧ, в которой я служил, застал переезд в Тикси 3. Снято примерно со стороны скалки "4 брата", слева "Дембельская гора" , с крестами которая, она чуть позже в кадр попадет. Не смотря на снег и годы, всё отлично узнаётся, видно радио и учебную роты, а вот РМО не видать, разрушилась видимо. Видно на заднем плане столовую, автопарк, справа дизельную, которая ещё долго работала после переезда, я туда на смену ездил. Банька тоже на месте.
Как вы там жили? Куда девали столько снега? Дороги кто чистил
@@matveymishmail Техника дороги чистила, лопаты тоже никто не отменял. К лету снег тает, остаётся только в тени, и сама мерзлота од слоем грунта. Кстати грибы летом растут. А люди везде живут.

Ха-ха, я там родился и прожил 17 лет. А некоторые из моих школьных друзей и поныне там. Так приятно увидеть родные места. А с 11:00 идет строительная база Тиксистрой. Мы ее в детстве всю облазили, она такая уже с 90-х стоит. У меня там отец и брат работали токарями.
и над чем или кем ты смеёшься теперь: над тем что уехал с этих мест или над теми кто остался тут жить ?

@@wesew7519 на самом деле там полно народу живёт. Видео нормальные жилые дома не показаны только заброшка, это понятно, потому что это специфика канала у него тема такая показывает только заброшку. А так там есть и функционирующие, и больницы, и ТЭЦ. И магазины, и школы, и даже церковь есть.

The feeling one must get walking around a desolate industrial complexes which was once part of a massive operation, making up just a tiny fraction of the vast (vast does little to describe it) Soviet Union’s industrial might. Haunting to say the least.
These Arctic locations become hard to visualize in regards to what they looked like when they were occupied and maintained thanks to the massive snow drifts that devour the variety of 40-60 year old buildings. I’m sure it took less than a decade or two for these villages, towns, and complexes to be almost unrecognizable.

I was thinking that it did remind me of "The Thing" which took place in Antarctica. All these abandoned places make me wonder about the people that once lived there, and how what the buildings looked like inside before they left.

With the demise of the USSR there were a lot of military and outposts run by the State abandoned and left to rot away. I wonder if at 4:27 was the transmitter site of the Russian Woodpecker? A Over The Horizon Radar System that reeked havoc across the shortwave spectrum during the Soviet era. Fascinating video, thanks for posting, most interesting.
