Your video is perfect. No nonsense, straight and to the point. We didn't have to listen to 30 minutes of rambling before you started your tutorial. And then another hour of rambling during your tutorial. This is by far the best video I've watched on mudding ,and I have watched a ton of them. I love how you keep it simple but at the same time you are teaching what is important and why, and showing the how to. I hope I can find more of your videos. Great job!
Anyone ever put soap in their mud? An older guy told me to do that and I thought he was just messing with me but he showed me how to do it and it works really well. It doesn't put bubbles in it like you'd think. You only use a tiny bit after its mixed and mix it again. It went on so much smoother, sanded easier and a lot of places I used it, I barely needed another coat. I've tried to show other people over the years but a lot of them refuse to even try it out... you'd be surprised what you can learn on different jobs with different people if you're willing to take advice and try different techniques. Personally, I enjoy learning and trying different ways to do things. I don't care if you're 21 or 61..if you have knowledge to share, I'm all ears. Just because you've been doing something one way for years doesn't mean you've been doing it the best way all those years...that goes for a lot a different things in life and work.

Hi Phil, I have owned my home for 40 years and every now and then my wife of 52 years wants me to do a wall that has been damaged from something or just needs to be patched. Recently we had plumbers remove and replace an outside water spigot which required the removal of a piece of drywall in our kitchen. The hole in the wall was about 24 by 24 inches but right next to the outer wall of the house so I was volunteered to replace that drywall patch and of course it needed to be mudded on all 4 sides with one side right in the wall corner so your video on drywall mudding 101 basically covered the whole gamut I needed to do this type of repair. Great info and thanks for showing me the steps necessary to repair this job to the boss's satisfaction.

So much information in only nine minutes. Thank you sir for sharing your knowledge. I’m a newb and I can’t slide mud on sideways or cut tape in the mud. It was assuring to see that I tape like you did here. Some will say it’s not the fastest way, but what good is doing it fast if you are making mistakes.
Sir, You are an absolute master of your craft. Amazing !! My results were nowhere near what you did. MUCH sanding required, and you are right....A whole lot of NO FUN !! Thank you for the video. Best to you and yours.
Very informative. I wish I had seen this video about 6 or 7 rooms earlier. I've been wearing myself out with all the sanding. And now I only have a hallway staircase to complete. I will use your technique & tips on it. Thank you Sir

Well, I'm into the first coat. Got a little stuck at the taping so came looking. Couple of days and we'll see if i learned anything. Thanks Phil. Top bloke! Nice tutorial
By far one of the best mud videos on RUclips ,I’ve done small handyman jobs over the last 20 years, occasionally I have to do some drywall repairs.having a video like this to refer to before a job really helps. it’s simple informative and short, brilliant ! The video has most certainly helped thousands of people, ! That’s awesome! .. thanks for posting
I am the population you sought out. I am a homeowner that works in the Medical field, and I have no background in construction. This video helped me tremendously. Keep up the good work.
@@derrike50 Or... you can go to "That Kilted Guy" if you want to see drywall done the right way, especially mudding as you like to call it. Rule #1 in taping. Never float "mud" over wet tape. Unless, of course, one is using a fast set or a fast set mixed w/ regular mud. Also, you can tell someone is a hack simply by the way they handle & apply tape & mud.
@@mattbricker8801 , My "content" is all the work I've done over the last 39 years. Phil fast doesn't have a clue... worthless video then and still is now.
Thank you for this video sir. I started my painting and pressure washing business at the end of 2021. I never worked with anyone that taught me drywall repair and how to mud. I have however learned a lot from you and others on RUclips. You guys have made it possible for me to provide for my family and I wholeheartedly appreciate you taking the time out of your day for people like myself
I appreciate the lesson. I've been in commercial construction for a while. I'm interested in learning more about other trades like this to be well rounded and knowledgeable.
Thank you for explaining that so thoroughly and clearly. That helped so much! I wish I could give you hug! Wish you were my dad! You're a very good teacher.
I purchased my first home and I was getting stressed wondering what I am going to do after drywall. I absolutely love this video and how detailed you were. Truly thank you Phil!
I've been in carpentry for 4 yrs and have been doing work with drywall for the last year or so. This is one of the most comprehensive, and least complicated video I've seen on drywalling. I think you could line any guy out on the job and get them rolling right away, which is not as easy as it sounds. Great video, I'll be checking out the rest for sure. Thanks for posting
Wow Phil I really liked this video. I thought it was a great tutorial. You do a really good job of showing the important parts of this process. I think you are a master craftsmen and am grateful to have this knowledge. Thank you.
Ok, I like your attitude right off the batt! You said, 34 years of experience and don’t know everything! To me, that’s the correct attitude! We never stop learning. I wish others would understand this. We are constantly coming up with new ways and ideas to old problems. Sometimes it’s a new problem. Good job!
He did a great job... one thing I learned being in this business for many years, other workers will never admit you did a good job, even if you did it better than them... so keep up the good work sir
Hi Phil, we are a small family of 3 from Australia and we absolutely adore this video. We watched at least 20 other videos on the subject of drywalling and taping and compared to them you aren't far the most helpful, informative and easy to understand. Please, please make many more videos. Your help has saved us thousands and enabled us to do our own plastering in what we consider to be a first rate way with few mistakes. Keep up the great work.
Thank you so much. I'm on a fixed income and it's been years since I did dry wall. My dad taught me. This is an excellent refresher course for me. Great job!
I actually enjoyed watching your video! I'm not very handy, but your video actually makes me want to try to do some drywall mud and taping. I'm a recent widow who owns an older farmhouse in need of some touch ups thanks for making your video so easily understood. Thanks so much!:)
This is THE BEST video I’ve seen so far for a home owner to do his own drywall mudding. Simple, to the point, and not boring, and no babbling on and on. THANK YOU!!
Thank you that's encouraging because that's what my whole thing for the video was to help the homeowner , subscribe to my channel and receive notification of more videos to come
Have to say thanks Phil. I just did exactly as you did in this video. You explained it simply. Took a little practice. My wall and ceiling came out great. And personal. I always hated drywall. Thanks again!
Man watching 45 minute videos of some guy, take forever explaining himself and it's clear as mud. I was able to skip ahead 10 seconds with you several times cuz you made it so simplified the layman can pick it up. I appreciate it. My walls look great
Well done, been doing home improvement for over 25 years. I thoroughly enjoyed your tutorial because it touched on every important point I learned from trial and error over the years 😉
I'm just doing some drywalling in a closet and this video really really helped. I was trying to do the corners both sides at the same time and could not get it right. Doing it in two steps, one side-let it dry-then the other side, makes total sense. Thank you Phil!
I am building my cabin here in Alaska and am at the sheetrock hanging and finishing stage. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I am certain my cabin will look 100 percent better now after watching your video. Thanks again.

I really liked the video. I always hated drywall mudding. Now I know that I was leaving way to much mud on and had to sand way too much. Nice job. Thanks for sharing.
@@Interior_Works not true. What also matters is speed and how much drywall dust you had to inhale because of unnecessary sending dew to sad skills. Any handyman can achieve good result given unlimited time.

I've been doing my own sheetrocking for years in my home and have never seen the idea of 2 screws at the seams. It makes perfect sense to put 2 in. Good video Phil!
@Johnny AppleStead There's no advantage when using screws. Back in the olden times when rock was hung with drywall nails 2 nails were put at the seems to cut down on nail pops.
Thank you so much for this video. My husband and I are building our home and we used exactly the method shown in your video. I was able to do our nearly 2,000 sqft home so fast compared to when we did our 2 bay shop that took forever because of the sanding!!

Good video. Informative. I was told once " less is best" Thanks. Not sure how RUclips knew my kitchen was under renovation and I'm starting to mud my drywall....
Can't remember the details, but something happened to me the other day where I was convinced RUclips had somehow tapped into my mind. I'm convinced they all use text's, audio and cameras to gather data, but some of these most recent oddities make me wonder what else they do.
I told my husband that I didn't know how drywall worked. He found this video for me to watch. I thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge! Very interesting and easy to understand!😊
You are a jewel! I have always painted my houses, and I can fix most things around the house. However, I just bought a house with a large garage and got as far as the tape being applied. I wasn't sure- nor motivated- how to press forward. After watching you, I feel I can jump in and start mudding the rest of the drywall. Thank you!
That is awesome! You can do it. less mud, less sanding. use your hands to feel how smooth the mud is. if it is still rough, keep sanding. Once it is smooth to your touch, you are done.
I've never had anyone explain mudding to me so simply I've been doing it a long time too but I've never done new drywall and I'm about to in a minute going to try your tips thank you.
I just want to say what a beautiful soul you have. I have seen many videos of prideful handymen. I mean you can just hear it in their voice as they are explaining anything. And to be honest, none of them do a good job of explaining anything. I’ve already mudded most of my house and still feel I’m doing something wrong. Your video has finally clarified it all for me. Thank you so much!
You did a great job. As far as the thinning the mud you can also add a little dish detergent and that will help slow down the drying process will not get the little dry particles that scratch the the mud as you put it on.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge, Phil! I'm a new homeowner in the process of my first renovation project. This video was great and I'm looking forward to applying your tips and tricks this weekend!
My question is after I do a repair let it dry sand it when I go to paint it the mud rolls up on my roller then I have to star over can someone tell me what I am doing wrong help
My husband does an excellent job as you do. He's 82 and not too stable on the ladder. Thank you for showing me how to do a "clean " job (needing very little sanding) as I'm going to attempt to do as good a job as you and he both do! Thank you.
Thanks Phil you help me out. I just retired from work. Well it's boring lol so I decided to remodel my house. I did sheet rock. Someone always went behind me and did the mud. Thanks again
the first time you try tape and mud, it's usually a disaster. make sure you start with a good drywall hanging job, otherwise it's really hard. Also, watch out for little "crusties" - pieces of hard mud leftover from previous coat that find their way into your mud, making a horrible mess. I am not a professional but I can sort of do this now.
Thanks for the lesson Phil Fast! I always end up walking around lookin like Pigpen from Charlie Brown by the time I'm done sanding. .so do the kids. .and cats. Appreciate ya

Unless, of course, one is using a fast set or a fast set mixed w/ regular mud. Also, you can tell someone is a hack simply by the way they handle & apply tape & mud.

You're most welcome I'm glad they'd helped you
I appreciate the lesson. I've been in commercial construction for a while. I'm interested in learning more about other trades like this to be well rounded and knowledgeable.
Thank you for explaining that so thoroughly and clearly. That helped so much! I wish I could give you hug! Wish you were my dad! You're a very good teacher.
I do occasional walls in my job and your videos help me a lot, I see it over and over, thank you.
Does and don'ts. maybe later.
I purchased my first home and I was getting stressed wondering what I am going to do after drywall. I absolutely love this video and how detailed you were. Truly thank you Phil!
Your welcome

THANK YOU!!

I'm just doing some drywalling in a closet and this video really really helped. I was trying to do the corners both sides at the same time and could not get it right. Doing it in two steps, one side-let it dry-then the other side, makes total sense. Thank you Phil!
Thanks Phil. Lost my dad this year and he said he would help me drywall a room and I’m determined to still get it done. Your video is a great help!

Talked with my son on the phone about this subject yesterday and today this video pops up recommended. Kind of creepy.

I told my husband that I didn't know how drywall worked. He found this video for me to watch. I thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge! Very interesting and easy to understand!😊
That's why I made the video
You are a jewel! I have always painted my houses, and I can fix most things around the house. However, I just bought a house with a large garage and got as far as the tape being applied. I wasn't sure- nor motivated- how to press forward. After watching you, I feel I can jump in and start mudding the rest of the drywall. Thank you!
That is awesome! You can do it. less mud, less sanding. use your hands to feel how smooth the mud is. if it is still rough, keep sanding. Once it is smooth to your touch, you are done.
You can do it! Good luck
Just saw your video August 2019 . Your video will continue to be seen in many years to come . Thumbs up to you .

Thank you for the kind words
I sensed that as well… I could tell that Phil is vey modest. God bless you, Phil.
You did a great job. As far as the thinning the mud you can also add a little dish detergent and that will help slow down the drying process will not get the little dry particles that scratch the the mud as you put it on.
Thanks Phil! Good info, getting ready to mud a workshop and this was a big help! Thank you!

This is some crazy shit to learn man I got mud everywhere
Lol
Helpful video, thank you very much. God bless you.
the first time you try tape and mud, it's usually a disaster. make sure you start with a good drywall hanging job, otherwise it's really hard. Also, watch out for little "crusties" - pieces of hard mud leftover from previous coat that find their way into your mud, making a horrible mess. I am not a professional but I can sort of do this now.
