Honestly Philip, your content is one of the last online island where I feel the content produced is genuine and actually well thought, built and, organised.
You never assume bad or good from anything, but try to stay neutral and share concerns of yours.
That is what makes your content unique and what keeps me, and many others I believe, always happy to watch any of your videos, however weird and amazing it may be.

Yeah this whole thing is a shitshow, Philip misrepresented the BTN episode by removing the parts where RL says that Philip *couldn't* have been paid because it would have been disclosed it if he was. Then, while this video is primarily a discussion of Philip's thoughts on his interview format, there is a suggestion that RL had falsely accused him of being a shill, which RL mistakenly decided was the focus of the "journalistic ethics" part of the title. Then, everyone's just been publicly dunking on each other and taking shitpost jokes to heart. It's honestly pretty stupid all around.

These days, the balance between cynisism and gullibility is such that its quite difficult to tell where a story belongs to. Not everyone in this world is around to gobble up cash as if it was for the second coming of the messiah. Some are genuinely here just to showcase ideas as they are, with no strings attached.
But then again, those that seek to manipulate also try to show a facade of humility. Take for example the many subtle 'astroturf' style advertisements on reddit. They openly advertise a product as with a personal story to blend in with the rest of the 'people like you and me made content', but... In the same vein, could that story simply be that a person enjoys the product and wants to advertise for free to share his good experiences?
Truth on the Internet is complicated. Its nature varies from group to group, individual to individual, lens to lens.
    Great video.

As someone who follows the By the Numbers podcast, Richard Lewis and Thorin are always dealing with the worse people you can imagine in the esports scene, so they are just being extremely skeptical and I believe guarded towards the idea that someone would a long interview out of pure passion for the game. I wouldn't take their comments as personal attacks, they can seem overly abrasive, but it is somewhat a part of the act and the show, at least it seems like that to me.
As a side point I would really like to see the whole interview with Henry, while I think the condensed version was good, it was strange to listen to a paraphrased version of the interview without it being stated in the title or description as being paraphrased.

i believe in these days everything anyone produces video about a topic that is even a little bit controversial, it is going to spark situations like this. you can try to make it less likely to happen, but always someone will be able to find a part to take out of context, missunderstand etc. causing 'drama'
What you should know is we love your videos and most of us probably understand your intentions and know you try your best to show things in fair, objective way, without trying to harm anyone.

Both Richard Lewis and Thorin are very opinionated people, so they can't fathom how a person can be this neutral, I presume. Regardless, it's wrong to berate someone the way RL & Thorin did simply because you don't understand their POV.

  • @christor2907

Oh my goodness! This is perfect and also sums up my experience with Richard Lewis: there was a specific not by the numbers episode, I dont remember the number but I think it was 2 years ago now, I was a big fan of thorin and Richard but this one episode they were just abusing a csgo player they don't personally like to a degree which I felt went too far and was actually past the point of acceptable. In the comments I called them out, saying that what they were doing was mobilising their fans to join them in online bullying and it wasn't acceptable behaviour from two community leaders. Richard lewis replied within minutes saying if I dont like it dont watch, but sarcastically thanked me for the view on the video though my comment "didn't mean anything because I am a nobody who will never amount to anything in life". I had politely questioned their motives in my comment, even saying I was a massive fan but coildnt support what they were doing in the video as I had felt they went too far... to get such a toxic response...there were a further two responses, the first in which I pointed out he has no idea who I am and has no information on which to base his abusive comment but that it didn't matter who I was as I was a loyal viewer like which is the backbone of their income. His next reply was another insulting barrage of abuse calling me a nobody who's opinion means nothing, he insulted my google account handle and tried to incent others to abuse me in comments. I gave a then short reply calling him a narcissist with nowhere near as much real world importance he he assumes and he then deleted my comments. Since this I have boycotted Richard Lewis and not watched anything associated with the guy. Truly a pathetic narcissist and a weak excuse for a human being.

The fact people misconstrue Philip's way of speaking and video structure, geared towards integrity and clear division between opinion and fact, as being in some way disingenuous is a shame. I suppose it is a symptom of how much trust has been lost in the face of the more casual journalism carried out online (I struggle to use the word journalism to describe content which is jumbled mess of opionion and fact.)
I really appreciate Philip's style of content.

i really appreciate the efforts you take to making your content bitesize and enjoyable, but i also totally see the argument that you change what's being said in doing so, even if neither you or HenryG realise. also, you said it yourself about the BCI video; people might watch your summary and be interested enough to watch the whole thing. the best solution, imo, is to record the entire conversation, and link to an unlisted upload of that full recording in your summary video. you're more transparent about the content you're summarising, and you accommodate everyone's viewing habits

I can understand why Thorin thinks it's weird because I don't think he has a mode of being other than unapologetically raw and unfiltered. Sometimes that's fun too, but it gets boring fast if that's all someone does - he's a bit of a one-trick pony and gives me a weird vibe, like he couldn't possibly laugh at himself despite doing the same to others. I do like Richard Lewis, but I don't ever watch his show with Thorin.
