    Hey all, Con here! Just got done watching the video and wanted to say thanks. It's still always amazes me when peoples passion for our games creates things like this. It's been so long since I've seen a lot of these features and moments from the older games, a great hit of nostalgia for me too.
    It was Steve, who was the programmer on Aftermath sent me the link to the video, it had slipped through my radar. I should note too - Steve was the amazing lead programmer on Dead Zone, he's very much a veteran of the series. We're still working together, although it's something outside of our usual series. But we've definitely talked about returning to The Last Stand in the future.
    And of course to everyone in the comments, the kind words mean a whole lot. 15 years ago I left my job to start making my own games. It's awesome that I still get make games after all this time and that they've meant something to a bunch of people. Love you all.

      Holy Smokes I can't believe Con himself stopped by, WOW. Thank you so much for coming by, and thank you big time for all the endless hours of fun you've given all of us through your games. It's incredible what you and Steve have managed to accomplish, truly remarkable, just like your games!! If you could, Tell Steve his efforts haven't gone unnoticed either!! And just in case you wanted to take another stroll down memory lane, I have a video on the warfare series as well! Wow, thanks again man this is crazy lol

      I've played PZ a few times. It's a bit too simulation for my taste, but I can see the appeal

    • @chaoticsilver8442
      @chaoticsilver8442 5 месяцев назад +45

      @@TheLovelyScrub If PZ is too slow paced, or whatever- There are dozens of settings that can be tweaked to make the game much more... interesting.
      Switch the zombie speed to 'sprinters', and you will be basically playing a whole different game. Or you can change the population settings, or a lot of other little details.
      And that's before even touching mods. Of which there are a lot, with a lot of variety.
      And, of course, it's better with friends. Maybe just try finding someone to play with. I wouldn't mind hopping on myself, if you want.

    • @TheLovelyScrub
      @TheLovelyScrub  5 месяцев назад +76

      @@chaoticsilver8442 My relationship with PZ is an interesting one. I love isometric games, so I'm on board there, I love zombie survival games so I'm on board there. I love open world games, so I'm on board there as well. But every time i play the game this is how it goes -
      Spawn in, and sneak from house to house reading books and magazines
      Spend most of that time looking into different inventories and menus. My inventory, container inventories, dragging and dropping items, just a TON of shuffling stuff around in the various inventories and/or selecting stuff in different menus.
      Need more ammo? go into your inventory and open the ammo box before you reload your gun.
      Need to eat food? go into your inventory and move food into the oven, and wait in the inventory until it is done cooking, then stay in the inventory until you are done eating it.
      Need to wash something? right click on a water source and scroll through the menu to select what you want to do.
      So it's not that it's too slow, i'm okay with that, i love games that my friend would call "plate-spinners" and i love turn based games, both of those are notoriously slow. My biggest gripe with PZ is just the amount of time i spend looking into a menu or inventory. So yeah my relationship with PZ is interesting. On paper it's everything i want in a zombie game (almost) - but in practice it's everything i don't want in a zombie game

    • @chaoticsilver8442
      @chaoticsilver8442 5 месяцев назад

      @@TheLovelyScrub There are a couple of mods that help with that kind of thing, and general quality of life improvements- Like 'Proximity inventory' allowing you to access the inventory of all containers near you in one menu, so you can just open the global inventory and collect what you need, rather than needing to search a dozen of different cupboards to find out which one you put something in.
      And a few tips- Like when cooking something... Just, fast forward time, especially with singleplayer. The f-keys are hotkeys for that too, in case you didn't know. I usually spend the downtime exercising, or reading a book, since those are slow processes that build over the course of the game anyways. Just be sure to stop and take the food out of the oven before it burns. ...or your house catches fire.
      That said, yeah, fair, I know where you're coming from. I've had runs where I spend hours just filling pots and pans with water before water shutoff, and getting all the food from random cupboards, pulling it all out, then piling it into the local freezer, or at least, fridge, that I can so that it lasts longer. The game can be tedious at times, depending on how you play.
      But, eh- I still like it. Mostly I just put on a mostly-audio YT video, like a podcast of some kind, or a video-essay or something, while in these more tedious, slower-paced times. Like while I'm sorting out the food and water, or am flipping between exercising, and sitting down to read a book while I recover.

    fun fact: This game was the inspiration for cod zombies, they had a gamemode for world at war called bunker defense where you'd play as a nazi on a turret in a normandy bunker and fight off waves of american soldiers until you were overrun. Activision cut it for obvious reasons so one of the devs came up with the idea for the zombie gamemode from playing the last stand and convinced some friends in the studio to work overtime to make a prototype to convince everyone that it was a good idea even though the executives gave pushback, and bam we got cod zombies.

They are not like the Walkng dead games, I feel like OP missed the point on games like Dead Island or Dead Rising, they were never super serious to being with.

    at the end of it's existance, i had become a Legendary Bounty Hunter that people all over the Internet wanted to hire for the simplest of reasons ranging from a simple item being looted that they wanted when working together with someone to having been killed over and over in PvP Events and wanting to get some sweet sweet revenge.
    it started out as a thing i did for fun, all for free. but then it ramped up until i took bids that ranged from a couple of Dollars to the highest i ever got being 502 Dollars for a kill i am still proud of to this day. killed an ENTIRE group that often rampaged in PvP events, and often talked smack to others they beat for no other reason then to boast, and that victory went down with the game sadly, as the day after it happened, the servers went down...

    The thing that I find annoying for the 2nd game is how as the game goes on, your barricade, which is your life line, becomes weaker. And also you will eventually relocate, which gives less incentives to repair the closer you are to moving.

    State of Decay 2 is the closest thing to it. Micro-management of sorts like community's status and temperament, the ability to swap from one member to another in case one needs rest and recoveries from damage and equip them with different weapons. The danger of scavenging at night for resources, weapons, crafting items and potential survivors each with their own traits wether they're positive or negative that can also affect the whole community. Anything done and happened are permanent and there's no do-overs.
    Playing that game in either Dread, Nightmare or Lethal is the closest thing to an immersive zombie survival RPG. Less lootable places, aggressive enemies that are attracted by any loud noises making firearms without silencers an invitation for a horde

    Not sure what you're trying to do here, it lacks the criticism necessary to be a review and the contextual grounding and exploration to be a retrospective.
    I'm quite sure most people watching a video on a 15 year old flash game understand keyboard controls and inventory systems, they're basic features in video games and don't need explaining. Putting these in is just filler material.
    You're also not fully familiar with your source material; the failure to mention the diary in 1 particularly stands out for the plot it adds.
    You also gloss over things like the addition of the timer in 2 or companions in 3. You describe the progression in the first few areas of 3 but then decide to ignore the story making that pointless; you could have just described the new mechanics and left it at that instead of jerking the audience around.
    As it is this video comes across like someone just rattling off the gameplay subsection on a wikipedia page.
