What is beat league?
An old series conceived many moons ago when I owned all of the available skins in the game at the time. I would draw a random champion and win a game with every skin. Rinse, repeat. Now, it has been repurposed to going for Mastery 10 on every champion. I'll draw a champ, play them until I get a minimum of 10 wins, and then when I feel like I'm ready to move on, I go to the next champion, alternating between a "discovery" wheel (that contains the majority of champs I've either never played or don't care about) and the "fun" wheel (that contains the champs I actually like). A champion only gets removed from the wheel when they hit Mastery 10. Rinse, repeat, for many years and probably thousands of games until I have everyone at mastery 10 (or I give up lmao)

Sylas really is the "better know how to use every ult in the game" champion

Funny that Trin is accidentally learning what Aurora does as well as Sylas given the fact Aurora was initially going to have the ult stealing ability
So, general Sylas tips;
He’s easy to learn hard to master. None of his abilities are hard to wrap your head around, save the ultimate (for obvious reasons) so the real mastery from him is ulti knowledge checks and limit testing.
Depending on the build he swaps between a DPS diver and a burst one. Magic penetration full AP IS a viable build against squishy teams, it’s all about finding angles to come in since your mobility is pretty short range/predictable, but coming through thin walls with E is a decent way to surprise with this build.
If you’re going bruiser against tanker teams build that new Magic pen item. That shits so good. Every passive proc applies it, Q applies 2 stacks almost guaranteed.
I’m sure you figured this out in editing but just in case: After stealing ults there’s a little circle under the champs feet showing how long it is till you can steal an ultimate again, longer the base CD of the stolen ult the longer you’ll have to wait
Some more ult notes;
- it copies stat changes as long as those stat changes apply from the ultimate itself. So Olaf hit for example gives you AD, Mundo ult gives HP scaling with missing HP, etc..
- it doesn’t copy passives, so if you steal Gwen for example you won’t get the passive bonus damage on every needle, but still get all three casts
- Late game your ult can be cast 2-3 times in an extended fight, so it’s sometimes worth to not steal one immediately so you don’t have to wait for the timers in a big fight.

Sylas is one of those champs where when i pick him, the enemy team is Rammus, TF, Xin, kalista, and LB and his ult is useless
TF ult is one of the best ults you can steal though

@@E_MO_TION You get global vision on enemy team for 8 seconds and you can channel for 1.5 seconds to tp to anywhere around half the map worth of distance. Its the ultimate gank tool to kill bot and take drake.

Fun wheel seems too easy to get onto. "The champ looks fun" is not a good reason, case in point this video 😂 hopefully he just gets way better at the champ like some of the others and it deserves the fun wheel position

Hey Trin, you probably know this already, but as you didn't mention it, and it seemed to have you confused sometimes. You can see the cooldown for stealing someone's ult under their champion (it's like a blue-ish circle around the champ's feet, further out than the blue buff usually is.)
That Jhin preview though. Can't wait! Edit: Not shade, I think you'll love the zoomy devil.
Not exactly a Sylas main, but I enjoy him and do well with him whenever I decide to whip out the whips/chains so couple of tips based on my experience: since Sylas is a health bruiser that doesn't really end up with resistances I'm a big fan of Rod of Ages on him, we love the stat stick. I don't remember ever having mana issues with him but I also always run Presence of Mind on him so I can't speak on how much Rod helps with that. Other thing is trading becomes a lot easier if you just walk up and E1 into W-ing distance of the enemy, then use E2 to either point-blank them or hold it to reengage in case they have a dash or you expect them to flash. Then you don't have to worry about distance or travel time as much because they're just trying to create distance from you and they won't have enough to try to dodge those fat chains. Alternatively, they see you walking up and back off, but that kind of pressure is also good because if you're up in the minion wave and they're scared to approach out of fear that you'll start a trade then you can CS for free. Boring, I know, but free CS will let you do fun things later in the game. Good luck on day 2!
OK here are somethings that helped me cause i had the same problem with sylas at the start. I found a build that i think helps in the early to more smoothly transition into late
Go electrocute with second tree precision for presence of mind for mana issues and build lich bane-Shadowflame that way your trade pattern in lane is e-w-auto-q proq electrocute and leave and lich bane basically triples that damage
Also against range going dorans shield and maxing q first helps with farming/laning

honestly from start to end i noticed u started holding E recast more which is great. it's the fear of it waiting for em to panic and them trying to over complicate dodging/flashing
Hey Trin, a tip for landing sylas E is use W before the second part of E, basically dash in and immediately W and then immediately E, you’ll be point blank so you really shouldn’t miss that 😂

Trin word of advice for this champ. Skill order is W E Q for maximum efficiency. Q max is decent sometimes but W is how you win fights. Obviously play the game your way but its nice to know!

I was going to give some advice but I can see several comments leaving advice, and I would only really have advice as a mid main rather than a Sylas player. All I'd say is, with my experience facing Sylas players in Emerald - Diamond, who have either beaten me or put up a good fight, they played in my face. They would wait until I stepped out of line, whether punishing me when I use an ability or just looking for a last hit, they full dove on me, playing in melee until I backed off. After laning phase, I think you did well; Looking for skirmishes and focusing the squishies. The only advice I can give is, play a bit more confidently - people will panic if you get into a ranged champion's face

Yeah, Sylas is kinda rough. He's sort of stuck in Pro Player Jail.
You probably might like not rushing protobelt and going something more AP heavy, it scales your missing hp heal better. Also Q max is good for poke heavy lanes but generally W max is nicer. Hate me for the next part of the comment if you want, but simplified combo into text would generally be, E1 into W, 2 autos into Q and E2 (this part can be done rather fast, faster the better), followed by 2 more autos. High AP numbers are really what matters unless you need to be healthier, which you're not assassin in that case so the playstyle is different. Last thing, E2 is probably the most crucial thing to land in his kit. Similar to Akali, there's a lot of damage value in landing your skillshots. You will one tap people and you will enjoy it. Stormsurge and Shadowflame are nice places to look ^^
Edit: Tank Sylas... your playstyle is to Q and walk forward to W, slow trade to leave with E1 and go back with E2 to get your W off cooldown for a recast. I personally don't like the build path options so I won't recommend anything, but most likely rushing Liandry's, No Riftmaker because it takes too long for you to start benefitting off Omnivamp and also the AP off HP gains are abysmal. Better off tear stacking at that point.

Sylas v malphite is actually the hardest counterpick in the entire game btw. Don't even need to be in the same lane either
It may not seem like it, but Sylas is more of a bruiser mage with bursting capabilities than he is an assassin or burst mage. It might be helpful to try to pilot him similar to a bruiser with gap closing, and build accordingly, rather than piloting him similar to an assassin. Also, I'd recommend using his W for its sustain ability a bit more than for its gap close when available. Most of his potency is how hard he is to kill, and how much damage his passive does in quick succession.
I'm not sure if it's just the timing of the cuts from each game, but I feel like numerous times in each game, trin doesn't have a stolen ultimate before skirmishes.
In situations like those, I feel like you can't be picky and should just get the first ult you see before the fight starts.
Last time I played Sylas was around the time of his release, so correct me if I'm wrong.

Muramana is the highest damage item for Sylas. His passive has a 30% AD ratio, which you proc with every ability, basically giving every ability a 30% AD ratio; all his abilities apply its extra damage proc, alongside his AAs; the extra mana means you can use abilities on multiple waves/camps without fear of going OOM in a later fight; and the proc makes your damage slightly hybrid, making it harder to itemize against you. The early mana from having a tear also means you can be a lot more aggressive in lane without needing to back for mana. It does eat into his W's heal a bit, but the extra damage you get from the item is well worth the lost healing in most cases.
Beating it is.
You could try e,w,e combo and if you really wanna go in and survive you should build more tanky cdr type of items.
Also maxing w first if you really wanna go in and stick to people. It will reduce your burst but still
Also you shouldn't hold onto your ults not worth it
