- Today I'll be reviewing my own Doxa 300T, Clive Cussler Special Edition. This is a watch that I knew I immediately had to have the moment I saw it, being a huge Clive Cussler fan and having read most of his solo work.
Come along with me and see my first Doxa!

Thank you for watching!
My brother phoned me up to tell me you have just released this video , I'm a massive Doxa fan and love the Cussler Doxa . So made myself a coffee , set the iPad up and here I am . What a stunning watch in every detail and I really enjoyed watching this. Fabulous!
That's awesome. Thanks for watching and thanks to your bro!
A fellow Clive Cussler fan. My favorite was probably raise the Titanic. His books are great. I am also PADI certified and have been since 1996. I have a dive computer and I always wear a dive watch for a backup I was diving with some friends and one of them his computer died. He was signally to come up. I ended up giving him my computer to use and I used my watch. Ever since the computers came out I have always worn a watch as a backup because I know that it won’t fail me. Just one of the many things I learned in the Boy Scouts. Always be prepared. I achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. That was a lot of work and fun. I always loved summer camp because it was constant fun. Shot gun, rifle, and bow and arrow. My first summer I received awards in all 3 weapons, the silver bullet , skeet burst, and the golden arrow award. My scores were higher than the instructors and all the scout leaders. I set records that were still standing the last time I went. So my records stood for 8 years and I continued to break the records every year. I use to shoot my BB gun all the time and would shoot bees down. I had been shooting it ever since I could hold it.
Interesting! You are quite an accomplished person!
@@islandwatch thanks. I have always enjoyed water and I swam in high school and college. The first time I went diving I was 13 and was on a supervised dive. I can still remember all the teeth of the barracuda that was 5 feet from me. I stayed calm. My air tanks are always fuller than my friends. It’s my breathing technique. Also I can hold my breath for 4 minutes and 46 seconds is my record. I was able to swim 100 yards under water with no fins on only my hands and feet. When I was about 5 this older girl tried to drown me luckily she failed but after that experience I started swimming miles and treading water for hours just to build up my strength and I always had a waterproof watch so I started holding my breath and timing it and every time I did it I always beat my previous record. Even beating it by a second is still improvement and doing it multiple times a day all summer long I got much stronger and could hold my breath much longer. I absolutely love the water it is so peaceful down there.
Excellent review on a fantastic watch. I had never heard of this model but came across it in person yesterday and it looks stunning
That’s really a stunning piece Marc. Thanks for sharing and the lesson on its proper use. My late best friend was a huge Clive Cussler fan and introduced me to his work. May have to add an Orange Doxa to my collection in his memory.
Thanks for watching. The Doxa is definitely a good choice.
This looks like it came out of a shipwreck, but in the best way possible. CC's novels carried me through my childhood and its awesome to see Doxa pay its respects to him!
I just finished reading Clive cusslers Odessa sea and Celtic empire. Always been a Doxa fan even before I knew about these books. Makes it that much better. Keep up the awesome videos Marc.
Will do, thank you.
Im a huge Cussler fan, i wear an orange Doxa and ny nickname at work in EMS is "Dirk". I am even dive certified because of Pitt and have a high octane high stress job like my hero. I really wanted this watch when it was announced but there is no way I can justify that price considering Cussler wore an orange 300T and so did Dirk so this watch seems kind of mute. If it was some sort of a spin on the orange doxa like maybe having the casing be weathered but keep it orange and have it say "Pitt" or even "Cussler" and also keep the same price as the OG 300t i would have bought it in an instant but this just seems way too much for what you get.
I had my hands on this watch today at Mayors. It really is impressive. Picture’s don’t do it justice.
For sure! Glad you got hands on
I love the patina! Need to do some islanders this way
haha, maybe!
This is not “patina”
I'm happy you found a model you like.
I've struggled with buying their 600T but couldn't justify the cost for a daily. Ended up with the Seestern version. Virtually identical in aesthetic, NH35. Wearing it now, no regrets.
Yes, do watch reviews. I love how you say that you might have to purchase more watches just to review them.
LOL, odd, right?
It's a beautiful watch Marc. I love Doxa and they really knocked this one out of the park. Congrats on the new acquisition. Thanks for doing the review. I was hoping to get a closer look at this one❤
thank you
Great review! Its cool to see how excited you are about this watch. I just got a 300T Profesional and I just love it.
That bracelet is sick. I didn't like it at first but by the end of the video it really grew on me.
Thanks! Same feelings here.
I love this watch so much. I even visited my AD to try and purchase it. Many congratulations and wear in good health.
Thanks! Do it!
You're videos are crushing lately Marc! Please keep em coming. More with Barry C
I appreciate that, but the viewership numbers tell a very different story. I am glad you are enjoying the content.
@@islandwatch we most people are VERY dumb
Oh my goodness Marc, you've Doxxaed yourself! And you're such a great guy! Lol. Thank you for the thorough review! It's out of my price range but it's a wonderful piece of work and if I hit the lottery I know what I'm getting! It's so important to have someone like you to have an honest review when we're talking about dropping that kind of money. It's just packed with originality and history and this is a case where the engraved case back beats an exhibition case *hands down.* Enjoy the heck out of it, you have fine taste, and joy is a big part of what this hobby (for me) is about. You wake up, put on something different, and it's like falling in love all over again
Thanks for reviewing the Doxa! I really like the dial and the bracelet!
Thank you. Me too!
Hi Mark, nice video follow-up to the unboxing!
I believe DOXA use standard-grade Sellita movements for the most part. I own a DOXA 200 in orange that I purchased from the DOXA USA website during the pandemic period, it was way too inaccurate for me both on my wrist and by my Timegrapher. I ended up sending it back under warranty and the USA office sent it back to Switzerland for "warranty repair", amazingly when I got it back several weeks later, it ran to COSC specs! I am admittedly OCD about the accuracy, even if I love the way a watch looks and feels if I need to reset it every 2 or 3 days (my threshold is 15 seconds off in a day means reset) I just don't end up wearing it as much (yes I know I should probably buy more quartz watches but there is just something about a mechanical watch I like more).
Great customer service
Yes, actually I was so shocked they would be willing to do that versus just saying the watch was within spec that I send the DOXA USA service agent a thank you note!
Beautiful looking watch, enjoy it Mark 👍👍👍
Thanks, will do!
Beauty of a watch. Unique. I have 3 sub 300t doxas. One is the light blue dial. I believe doxa calls it aquamarine. You'll enjoy it, I'm sure.
This watch is incredible ❤ I love DOXA, they are amazing!! 🎉
Really enjoying your passion for this watch. Looks very cool and you’re making me want to read his books. 😬
You should!
@@islandwatch I WILL THEN! 🤣
the metal looks so awsome. this watch wants to be rocked on different adventures.😅
It's a keeper for sure.
Thank you for explaining the Doxa bezel-NOW it makes sense. The more you show that watch, the more I like it. Nice piece, Marc. Enjoy!
Glad you liked it!
Like you Marc as soon as I found out about this watch I just had to have one, I can confirm that it’s every bit as good as you say, I wasn’t sure about the fake ageing but now I’ve seen it for myself it’s incredible and fits the watch perfectly. Expensive yes but for me worth it and unique. I highly recommend the famous orange face ones, they are outstanding.
Glad you enjoy it!
I think it’s a cool looking watch, just not sure DOXA is worth the price nowadays. They’ve kind of become a Chinese brand using the minimum requirements to be a Swiss watch. Love Clive Cussler books!!
Haven't most of them!
@@islandwatch sadly. I’m still tempted by it.
I think you are confusing them with Omega
I like this Marc. More reviews would be great.
okay, thank you
Was not familiar with this watch but it’s very cool and unique. Thanks for sharing it Marc and have a great day!
Thanks for checking it out.
State of the collection in multiple parts would be cool. You can speed things along by spending just 10-20 seconds on most of the watches but longer on interesting ones. Like ones with stories, special meaning, and the unusual.
I think many brands don't specify the movement because not doing so gives them flexibility to change movements depending on availability and costs.
Thanks for the idea.
It sure is interesting -have had a 300T -great watch -just don’t understand why they would not upgrade to the almost common 70 hour power reserve. Especially at the advanced $ !
Very cool watch, I dig the distressed look.
Thanks so much!
So cool. I'm on my third Clive Cussler book since your unboxing! 😂
Glad you are enjoying it
Thanks Mark for a fun and informative vid... Big congrats on the DOXA! A handsome watch for sure - love the aged steel too.
I agree, large companies skimp on details us watch enthusiasts care about, or even worse, charge for the extra mile but dont deliver: i would happily buy the Oris cotton candy bronze diver's 65, but with an MSRP of 2900 USD on a bracelet, you'd think the movement would at least be labeled (top, elabore, etc) but it's not. That's probably why grey market vendors are selling them under 2000.
Please keep reviewing! Thank you Marc
I've recently picked up a 300T Sharkhunter, I carried out a mod on the bracelet to help it conform to the wrist and not jut out at the endlink, it required dremeling the inner side of the top beads but now it looks and wears much nicer.
An excellent review and it's a fitting tribute to Clive Cussler. I can hear the beautiful John Barry theme from Raise The Titanic in my head.
John Barry used to be a resident of Long Island 😁
Did not know that, thank you.
Congratulations Marc, a good purchase for the soul and memory. 🤝
Thanks 👍
Great video. I like the additional information about diving with watches
Maybe for a state of the collection your can go by brand or watch type? You’d be able to do it over several videos throughout the year so maybe it won’t feel like such a large task. Idk, still might be a lot because over 200 watches is insane lmao
Very true! It would be like a mini-series.
I love the watch, the novels 📚and Cussler’s history. Yet, I think we would still be able to get it much below retail later. Especially, that it isn’t limited.
Great video. Fake aging generally isn't for me, but I do think it adds in a good way to this specific watch instead of taking away.
It looks really good on this one.
I didn't like these when they first came out, but now I really do like them! Great review and the Doxa is a total divers classic! Wear it well.
I dont think many people can hold the same opinions since 1967 and then change their minds, kudos
I own a couple of Jack Masons sits nice to see them keep evolving. Nice watches great review thank you, these are in my radar now 😂
Very good video. Really like the “patina” of the watch.
Hello Mark, nice watch. The Doxa 300 cosc is 300 meters. The 300T is a 1200m watch, hence the helium escape valve. I believe Doxa beat Rolex to the punch and are the first Swiss diver to use the Helium escape valve.
Says right on the side of the watch, 30 ATM.
@@islandwatch that's weird, every other 300T is 1200m , I'm positive.
Yeah. Watch the video. I show it when I go over the bezel side engraving
The HEV has nothing to do with the depth rating. Also, Doxa didn’t “beat Rolex to the punch.” The two brands collaborated on the design. The professional Rolex Seadweller was the first watch that it was used on. The Doxa was the first watch offered to the consumer market with the HEV. You are clueless
@@whereRbearsTeeth what is a helium escape valve for smart guy? It has nothing to do with depth ratings my ass. It must be an altitude escape valve then for a space watch.
38 hours of power reserve ? Did I get that right ? How can a Swiss movement in 2023 have less than 42 hours, which is already not a lot ?
Very cool! I'm looking to get the Doxa Army watch sometime in the future.
Sweet!
Really cool watch, love it. Congratulations
Thank you very much!
I love the weathered look. I’ve considered getting a Doxa, but there are a couple bracelet related things holding be back. I have a small wrist, so overhang is a constant worry for me. That said, I couldn’t help but notice that the first row of beads of rice don’t move, as in the solid end link is, well, solid hehe. It doesn’t articulate, so in effect the lug to lug is longer than the case. The other thing is how the bracelet flares out. I do like the proportion of the first link (22/24?) to the case, but I wish they would have made the lug width the same. Ironically, this is something the knock-offs do better IMO. Overall, it’s a cool piece, and if they ever tweak those things, I’ll join the ranks.
The main thing I like about Doxa dive watches is the large minute hand and the great amount of lume. It's a DIVE WATCH, we don't care about the hour hand when diving, just the minutes. We don't want to get bent.
Would love to see some interest about you guys making fitted rubbers for doxa, Ive got one of these and cant stand the thought of 250 for two pieces of rubber without the hardware 😬
Okay, thank you.
“Fitted rubbers” Seriously?
Congratulations Mark! The 300T case with the HEV is the same case used on the now discontinued sub 1200T during the Marei era - water resistant to 1200m! Presumably Doxa returned to the ‘300T’ designation to re-align this model with its historical predecessor. 🧡 🤿
Doxa would not service my 2002 doxa sub300t reissue, said they don’t guarantee parts past 10 years. So I bought a damasko dsub1 off Marc.
Well, I guess that's to my benefit.
Doesn’t it just have a standard ETA? Any independent watch maker should be able to easily service it.
Tremendous watch!
now saying "Hi this is Mork from Long Island Watch" has become my habit lately haha
LOL
Can that purchase price be justified? Is there precious metal used on the case? Is there extensive tooling anywhere on the case or works? It is a very nice looking watch and I love all of Clive Cussler’s books. Somehow I missed hearing that he had passed away. So it’s definitely one that I will want to acquire!
The purchase price can only be justified by they buyer.
Precious metal? Lol it’s $2500. Get real
Hi Mark.... So after almost a year I like to circle back.... How are you enjoying the watch and how is it holding up?
Looking forward to this.
thanks!
I wish my puny 16cm wrist could handle a Doxa 300T. Orange dive watches are my favorite and Doxa is their godfather.
True!
Beautiful Watch....
Beautiful. Very envious.
Thank you very much!
as much as I want this cussler edition, I’ll have to stay satisfied with my sharkhunter….lest the wife kills me in my sleep lol
great review man, hope you enjoy that beauty in good health!
Where’s the Tuskegee vids. I was surprised when I saw the price
I also wouldn’t mind seeing a video on the Tuskegee airmen watches. They’re pretty good looking watches with an interesting quartz movement.
Just so much going on, I should get to it soon.
takes me back to before dive computers and you had to do everything by hand using a dive table you carried with you on your dive..
For sure
Beautiful watch ❤
It really is!
Nice piece. Reckon an Orange handset would have more visibility and would be more of a nod to the orange history of the brand, ps I've got a Doxa Sub 300 T-Graph Professional (orange). It's a nice piece except it does not have a lume marker on the Chrono seconds hand which is kind of stupid. The earlier T-Graphs featured lumed arrow heads on their main Chrono Seconds hands which I absolutely LOVE!
First of all, thank you for wearing gloves. I just got done watching a video where the guy was reviewing two different Rolex Daytonas, and we all know how scratch prone they can be, and the guy kept hitting the watch bracelet and case with his fingernails! Not buying anything from them, that's for sure.
I'm a little on the fence with Doxa. I like the look and diving theme of the watch. I just wish they would do COSC certification for all their watches, or at least offer it on more models. But I guess now that I think about it, Doxa probably does adequate testing regardless before they ship out their watches. I also wish they had a better power reserve.
Reviewing. The. Doxa. 300T. Clive. Cussler. Special edition. True
I think I read all of his original books also. Do you secretly dream of living in a airplane hanger like Dirk Pitt?
Is it just me or am I going crazy? Islander released a world timer, now it’s gone? 😳
🤫
It's good to 1,200 meters, about 3,600 feet. I own one with a blue dial.
Nope. This version only to 300 M. It's engraved in the side of the bezel.
I guess they changed the watch. Mine is good down to 120 atm which is 1,200 meters. Who would think they would lessen the depth.
I still think it is cool, if I had the money I would get one. These videos did get me to pick up a post Clive Dirk Pitt adventure, written by Dirk Cussler, Ill give it a go, been sort of boycotting the non Clive novels, but I have to move on!
Interesting, I just moved onto other authors.
@@islandwatch I'll let you know what I think after I read it. After all, the namesake of the protagonist is now the creator of the protagonist 👍
I’m a fan of this one
Thank you, me too.
What is the connection to the author
never wanted a watch so bad ;-)
Yes
great!
The brown Doxa! If Dirk Pitt is the poundshop 007 then is this a poundshop Omega? 😂 Very silly watch.
Beautiful 👍
Thank you 😊
The only thing missing to make these reviews of other brands more interesting, is the personal touch. Why is Clive Cussler important to you? You mention he is, but don't say why.
Otherwise, I vote yes for review of other brands if it's an interesting or "eclectic" piece (like decompression bezel) which allows you to discuss features not usually covered under Islander
Also, what did you think of the movie Sahara?
Watch my unboxing video, all I talk about is why he's important to me.
I liked Sahara, not bad!
@@islandwatch 👍
Any Cussler’s Novels 📚 fans in the young generations ?
It's an ETA 2824-2 Watch Movement.
They say it's 26 jewels. That's not an ETA. ETA is 25. Sellita is 26.
I bought a Caribbean 300t several years ago. At that time it was an eta movement. Like many brands went to Selita do to availability. Either movement is fine.
I guess Doxa has changed its suppliers. Mine is an ETA movement.
No, it’s not. They are using sellita.
Perhaps you should become a Doxa AD?
Not gonna happen.
I like Doxa but this one doesnt look the most legible which defeats the point some what.I.e just a fassion editiion.A hipsters piece that spent too much.
Definitely not meant to be a functional diver, though it is. The dial is fine to read in daylight or night, but under water? Probably not.
It's really nice but i rather buy an authentic Captain Willard
I don't think it's trying to be that?
@@islandwatch oh, my mistake perhaps. You would know better than me. I thought it looked very similar upon first impression.
Doxa 300T’s are great watches. But this is just cheesy
Oh yeah, but let's make fun of Invicta?
not sure where that comment slides from.
@@islandwatch Not you my friend, it's directed towards the watch collecting community in general who mock Invicta's crazy designs. I'm quite sure if that watch said Invicta on the dial instead of Doxa it would not be well received. Personally, I like it when watchmakers step outside the box.
You look spanish
Sí
Oof, why do you wear the watch below your wrist bone? Reminds me of the kids that wear their pants below their butt cheeks 😂😂😂
It's comfortable for me.
@@islandwatch I had a coworker that was a watch lover like me, and I teased him about wearing it too low. Well, one day he tripped and put his hands down to catch his fall, and not only broke his watch bracelet, he broke a small bone on the back of his hand from the watch being too low. Lesson learned I guess.
Huuuuuge
Id rather buy half a dozen of islanders for that money. 😅
LOL
Totally! Now that I own three Islanders, it is hard to disagree with that. 👍😊
Marc, you should do a video on diving watches with the guys from the DiveTalk channel.
Know the dive watches better.
Noted, thank you.
