Sandra Nkaké - I'm A Woman - [Home Cooked Video]

Last Tuesday, like every Tuesday, I decided to go buy some vegetables from the market. The weather is nice and I come across so many smiling faces in Paris’s 18th disctrict.
I greet the school’s headmistress. I meet the postwoman who hands me my mail before starting to her mail round
I take the subway. In the coach I’m in a woman is singing a wonderful song in a language I cannot identify. A young crack addict sits next to me. She says she wants to quit and that speaking with me would help her find the energy to do so.
As I get out of the underground I can feel my whole body’s having a new stance. I stand tall. I feel more determined. All these women I met moved me and gave me a strength that I want to translate into music
Jî Drû and I talk about it and I turn on my computer. We get started writing a song. The rhythm flows naturally. We grab an analog keyboard and record a few chords, then the theme pulls at me: I’m A Woman. Like a lightning, it’s crystal clear. We wrote, sang, recorded and mixed it in a couple of hours.
Blessed to have been able to transform the thrill those women gave me into sound and music. I listen to the track over and over again and can’t stop dancing.
Orange is the wall. It’s a sign, a call, think I. It is the Tangerine Moon hailing and guiding me again. Jî Drû grabs his phone from the table and starts shooting my moves.
We edit the images on my computer. It’s late and my entire day was warmed by all these women’s energy I came across today.
I have the biggest smile ever heading to the kitchen where all my greens are still in my shopping cart. I start laughing, prepare a soup and watch the video for the last time before I share it with you.
