    I'll be doing the same thing on my 72 gmc pickup for the winter project. I've got to get it nice for my kids high school daily here in a few years so I'll start on the body this winter. I'll be watching all your videos as they come

      That's awesome!! I had a 70' GMC in high-school. Thank you! I'm gonna be making a bunch of videos on everything I do to the truck. It might not be pretty but I'm learning. I'll be watching your videos too.

    Nice work. Bound to have blowouts like that working on old iron like that. Grinding is a fine balance between product removal and heat produced. Heavier grit means more material removed quickly with less heat but the finish is crappy. Which means additional sanding to make it more presentable. If you have a pad/DA sander you can accomplish this. But with a grinder alone it's tough. Look forward to seeing the next patch go into place. Catching up on videos. Be safe and stay well.

      @@briankinnear7461 I have 40 grit flap disks. No DA sander currently. But I don't know if they make a flap disk courser than 40 that I've seen on amazon anyway. Thanks for the advice and watching. I will have more lots more to come on the videos

    Don't worry about it looking perfect that what body filer is for. Pole barn garage did worse and just put body filer in it and still looks great.i recommend watching his most recent video. He made me realize it doesn't have to be perfect

    If you have a 1/4” pneumatic die grinder they work good. They take a little longer but you shouldn’t grind through. Get it close and hammer and dolly the weld line. It will look great 👍I use a 2” roloff 60 or 80 grit.

    • @MidnightCustoms-C20
      @MidnightCustoms-C20  14 дней назад +1

      I think I have one of those die grinders. I'll have to look in the tool box.
      Do I need to hammer and dolly when the weld is hot or do I wait until it cools ?

    • @EdgeofEternityBillCameron
      @EdgeofEternityBillCameron 14 дней назад +1

      @@MidnightCustoms-C20 You can do it either way. On light metal I would start by grinding it to close to finished, then check the surface with your hand and use the hammer and dolly. On thicker material you can hammer hot, but in my experience I’d rather not. I can always add heat with a torch, but we have to be careful to not stretch the and create distortion on the surface. Then we have problems. You could take some of your samples or practice pieces, and practice grinding down the welds, do hammer and dolly experimenting and see what works best for you.

    That panel actually looks good. I'm wondering how you bent it to look like the rest of the panel.

    • @MidnightCustoms-C20
      @MidnightCustoms-C20  13 дней назад +1

      i built a T-dolly from a piece of pipe and flat bar that i can clamp in a vice. then i use some spring clamps to hold the sheet metal to the dolly and slowly started bending the sheet metal around the dolly. and after every small movement to the piece im making i take out to the truck and chech to see if its the right shape or close enough to start tacking in and then tweak it to fit as im welding.

    Does your Arc Captain have MIG capability? The reason I ask is flux core runs much hotter which increases the risk of warpage and burn through. I agree with Bill on hammering and dollying the weld line.

    • @MidnightCustoms-C20
      @MidnightCustoms-C20  14 дней назад +1

      This particular welder is flux core only. But I have a mig 200 that does run gas. The reason I am running flux core on this truck, is because the truck won't fit in the garage and it's always breezy/windy at my place
